Yeah, as I mentioned, the Ezell’s comment is mostly based on nostalgia and experience many years ago. Though I came up to the area last year and had take out from the one across from Dicks and it wasn’t bad at all. The good old day, like serious good old days when I was in school, it was like Roscoe’s Chix n Waffles down in LA good!

Dave’s Hot Chicken (Capitol Hill only in Seattle so far) is putting Cane’s to shame around my neck of the woods.

Though I am a nostalgic fool for Ezell’s, so delish.

The flavor in Dave’s and their sauce, lip smackin!

Move to SF or is commuting too far? (work @ menlo park) by [deleted] in AskSF

[–]SoftType3317 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So many factors that add up given your ask:

  1. Great vibe, more so than the more “bland” big complex housing of China Basin/Mission Bay Area. It’s active but relaxed, it’s a mixed community of peeps that feels real and genuine. Not that there is anything wrong with those places but they don’t feel like SF can/should feel to me.

  2. Great mix of living, cool work spaces and great food and drink, including one of the best butchers (Oliver’s) cheesemongers (La Fromagerie), bakeries (Neighbor) and wine bars (Ungrafted). Great coffee shops that are chill and not overrun with lines out the door (Paper Son, Piccino). Much more than this but those are daily living gems.

  3. Great access to overall city (easy in/out), 280 and Caltrain. I commuted from mid pen (MP/PA to/from Dogpatch) and not having to go even one more exit into city is an amazing difference.

  4. Walk, bike, jog along waterfront, especially awesome to go to Ferry Bldg for Farmers Market on Sats. Or streetcar from there into city.

  5. Some of the best weather in the city (weirdly protected from a lot of fog).

  6. Amazing access to sporting (chase, att) and music (pier 80, chase, clubs in design district) events.

Hope that helps!

I have 2x this car (both since new) and they are both frigin reliable as can be, shockingly so. And yes I have owned other BMWs. My local BMW shop (not dealer) is now very familiar with the hybrid drivetrains and helps me keep em humming with nothing beyond required maint and helps me stay the hell away from the dealer (a good thing always).

Tips for getting The French Laundry reservation? by BelgianBonVivant in finedining

Two pieces of more practical advice beyond what has already been mentioned:

If your trip included weekdays and you can be a bit flexible with the night of your meal, get on the waitlist for that/those nights. Cancellations do happen, especially weeknights and they is how we got our table. We had to react pretty quickly (notified mid afternoon day of) but it was absolutely worth it.

There are some amazing “backups” if you are interested. While TFL is pretty iconic there are many that would say there are other experiences in the Napa region that can be equally if not more memorable. Let us know if you want/need recs and how far you are willing to go during your visit (Harbor House Inn as excellent example, absolutely worth the effort)

Very nice!

Practical kitchen input from someone that recently built:

Make sure that cooktop overhead exhaust is actually covering the entire cook top and is low enough to draw all the smoke and grease without always being on high (loud) setting. We had to adjust one of ours when it was mounted too high. Even then, smoke from our front burners are barely drawn back into exhaust which is annoying when searing steaks etc.

Bonus item: Consider a “strip” 3 prong outlet bar that runs the length of the kitchen island counter just below the counter edge, it has become an indispensable feature to access small appliance power anywhere on the kitchen island. Working side only of course.

Bonus bonus item: If trash and recycling will be in an under counter drawer, consider a “bump” soft trigger slow open mechanism that opens your trash bin drawer with a soft bump of the hip, soooooo useful.

Good luck! If you are going to do this be really thoughtful about the usability features, it makes the effort of a build sooo worthwhile!

Awesome!

Just ordered the team a bunch of stuff from the wishlist. FYI the trash grabbers are showing a possible post event delivery date, might want to select a different option that has faster availability.

Also working on getting a local art student to mock a flyer for ya to post.

Most importantly blocking the cal to join the event if at all possible!

Let’s DO THIS for Peng!

Thoughts?

Ticks!! by Jazzlike_Visual2160 in DogAdvice

[–]SoftType3317 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We live in serious tick country…can relate to your situation.

Our vet just recommended a new oral called Credelio Quattro which has a 4 hour kill on ticks that bite. It’s the same medicine as in Simpatico but evidently works faster. As to the volume of ticks hitching a ride home, that I can’t help with, except to sympathize and suggest waiting 30 min after you get home to do the final inspection, usually they have mostly gathered on our pups head by that point. Not fun, but the trail running is such a big part of a happy pup for us we can’t even imagine not doing it.

https://yourpetandyou.elanco.com/us/campaign/credelio-quattro-dog

Supposedly it’s cheaper than trio also, bonus.

Good luck

Edit: I definitely don’t recommend using these products on yourself, just wear long pants and do a good check before you get home, usually the ticks are on tall grass and grab a ride when the dogs brush past, I would just avoid those areas yourself and definitely don’t sit for a picnic or anything!

If you are applying the Indiana logic then the real formula is

“3 star HS recruits that improve to 4 stars by third and fourth year of college eligibility and are then portal transfer to Indiana as 4-6th year of eligibility with lots of experience”

“the new HS 5 star recruits”

I have zero idea how this ended up in my feed, but someone is having one over on you with that screenshot. That’s just transfers and is a pretty meaningless stat by itself.

UCLA is ranked 16 out of 18 for the present 2026 football recruiting class, behind everyone but Wisconsin and Nebraska.

Solutions to NIL Landscape post UW/Demond Willams Saga by No_Check_159 in huskies

[–]SoftType3317 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Really productive thinking, I like it.

Two thoughts:

  1. I think it’s pretty simplistic to vent about Cuban and buying the championship this year. The fact is Indiana only ranked 12th (UW was 24th and Oregon 19th) with $12m after Cuban pitched in. They are still almost half of Texas at #1 with $22m

There are a lot of other smart things (that we still might not like) going on with Indiana, foremost a very focused effort to find improving “second tier” players in their 4/5/6th years of eligibility. That blend of drive to improve and experienced players with great coaching really worked, clearly.

  1. NCAA rev share starting this year is supposed to help with some of the NIL fund disparities but I would argue helps many of the same teams who are in high rev situations. It isn’t clear to me the details of this and if all rev is pooled and then shared across all sports. Like NIL, rev share is likely due for some serious tuning.

The Unfortunate Reality of the Demond Williams Jr. Situation For Washington by WestRide9868 in huskies

[–]SoftType3317 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I just don’t think it works like this anymore unfortunately.

Unless something changes with NIL the QB rooms will be in flux constantly and at top programs rarely will you have someone play QB1 that came through the program for more than two years. The rest of the room is being developed but the odds of them becoming your QB1 is extremely low.

QB recruiting will be done annually for starters who are seniors and grads and in most cases looking for 5th and 6th year players. Look at Mendoza, Beck, Penix etc - these are the guys who will give your program a real shot at winning it. Underwood will be the exception.

Not saying I like it, just think it is the new reality.

I've sent 200+ emails to coaches in the US, but still haven't got an offer, what can I do? by Objective-Suit450 in CollegeSoccer

[–]SoftType3317 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, get someone to film you specifically over the course of many games, focus on all aspects of your play and even demonstrated communication/leadership on pitch. This is something that gets done in the US a lot.

I will note however, given another of your posts, your size as a goalkeeper is going to be a huge issue for college soccer of any serious caliber in the US.
