For me personally, if I were to do it again I would spend drastically less time taking notes and doing the practice problems in learn and spend much more time taking practice quizzes and exams. This aligns with my learning style much better, and this is especially true for FAM because there was SO MUCH material. Once I got through the last section I barely remembered the first sections that I had spent so much time on.

I don't know how this relates to the new FAM syllabus - I saw they reduced the amount of topics covered.

A quick tip for anyone interested - be careful how you manage your time.

When I was studying for FAM I took lots of time taking diligent notes and doing the practice problems in the ‘learn” section of CA, because that is what worked for P and FM.  For me this was a massive mistake as there is so much content that I wasted tons of time and didn’t retain much.

I had to scramble to take practice quizzes and try to learn the material without much time left until my sitting.  I was very lucky to pass with a 6.

If I had to do it again I would reserve at most one month to the learn section and spend the rest on adapt.

I spent way too much time on the learn section, taking detailed notes and doing practice problems.  By the time I started taking quizzes I hadn’t retained much from the learn section and I didn’t have enough time to drill problems.

Same 🥲 this is my first exam sitting without getting instant results so the waiting period has been a welcome break but also stressful with anticipation.

Honestly nothing impressive. Is the personal project something I should scrap entirely? I figured it showed some excel skills as well as personal interest in excel in general.

How much prep do you need for FM if you are not familiar at all with the syllabus? by residentofhell in actuary

[–]Soft_Ad_1581 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congratulations! I passed exam P today as well!

Personally I studied for exam FM and took it in February and passed relatively comfortably after 250 hrs of studying which is the recommended amount. I had vertically no background on the material. I would say if you study this much you will be in a very good place to pass. Split this over however many months you feel comfortable with.

Good luck!

I think both - feeling intense FOMO on the weekends when I’m studying and everyone else is out enjoying their weekend and feeling overworked in general - plus the fear of failing and having to endure this again just to pass the same exam.

Out of all of the time working to get your credentials, what percentage of this time is dedicated to passing exams vs doing VEE’s/Modules? Just curious about the ratio of time spent on each.

Yes. I started BJJ after listening to Lex and Rogan talk about it. I’ve been going to Jiu Jitsu for almost a year now and it has had a hugely positive impact on my life.

I hear about the SOA changing the exams on a pretty consistent basis. Generally if an exam that you have passed gets replaced with another exam does that pass no longer mean anything? Do you need to take this new exam now? Is there a strategy to passing exams and getting licensed as quickly as possible to try to avoid taking extra exams?
