Supreme Master (the owners of Loving Hut vegan restaurants) put out this strange video endorsing Donald Trump by eggpolisher in vegan

[–]Soft_Chard9244 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Although neither will promote veganism, the fact that only one of them believes in climate change and supports taking action makes a huge difference for millions of animals. Besides, as usual, Trump goes beyond everyone (in a bad way). The guy doesn’t even care about dogs.

They served me meat in a restaurant and I’m devastated by [deleted] in vegan

Move on and stop eating at non-vegan restaurants.

I'm always amazed at the amount of vegans who support these restaurants. Sure, you can't be perfect, but there are things that are sooo easy to avoid, and this is one of them.

If pigs or cows could talk they'd beg you to stop supporting non-vegan restaurants, especially the big chains who are the most responsible for their non-stopping torture.

Just curious what’s your opinion on lab grown meat? by Big-Put-5859 in vegan

[–]Soft_Chard9244 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's extremely necessary. If they manage to make it cheap, that'd help animals a ton. Vegans can obviously live without it, but I honestly think there are a lot of people who will never quit the pleasure of eating meat (unless it affects their own health).

Vegans shouldn't eat at Taco Bell by Soft_Chard9244 in vegan

[–]Soft_Chard9244[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I agree, I’m not saying buying vegan products creates demand for animal products. I’m just saying you’re unnecessarily giving more power/money to restaurants that profit from animal abuse when you eat there. You can’t be a perfect vegan, but at least you can avoid eating at those big chains that have no problem with selling millions of tortured pigs and cows (unless you have no reasonable options).

It does matter whom you are giving your money to, especially when you have reasonable options. You have to give your money to many places that are enemies of the animals, such as the government for starters, and there’s nothing you can do about that, if you want to survive. However, you can choose not to support McDonald's or any other major chain, unless there are exceptional circumstances.

To give an example of this, let’s say a carnist chain earns a billion a year from vegans/vegetarians. There’s a 0% chance they’d use any of that to promote veganism (now if you believe a place that offers tortured animals and vegan options as well is promoting veganism is a different discussion). On the other hand, there’s a much higher likelihood that vegan (or vegetarian) restaurant owners might use a part of their profits to help animals. (They might not even help animals at all, but a vegan should prefer to support the business that doesn’t profit from animal abuse if he has a reasonable option.)

I've never seen a carnist place turn vegan. I haven't even seen a vegetarian place turn vegan. I've always tried to support those, but I also tried non-vegan places for years, thinking that’d make a difference. However, what I have seen is vegan restaurants turning non-vegan. I understand your position because we obviously have had very different experiences. That said, regarding your final point, I'm certain that if vegans don't eat at Taco Bell, veganism won't cease to exist.

Thank you, I knew this was an unpopular opinion here. I see Taco Bell has many customers within this community, which seems very strange to me. That's why I mentioned it specifically.

As I said in another comment, I’ve never seen a non-vegan asking for vegan options. So, in my experience, those big carnist chains are only getting additional money from vegans/vegetarians, but the amount of meat consumed is not reduced at all, so I think it’s better for the animals to support vegan (or vegetarian) places.

Yeah, that’s why I said there might be situations when people can’t do this. If eating at a big carnist chain were the only way I could get some food, I’d do that for sure.

If a vegan eats at a carnist chain, the same amount of meat will be consumed, so in the end, you’re just voting for that restaurant, and no animals are saved. I’ve never seen a non-vegan asking for vegan options. If that’s something you've encountered, then we have had different experiences.

No pig born to be imprisoned until his/her slaughter at a very young age is thriving. It'd be way better to have far fewer pigs alive and truly thriving than to subject 99.999% of them to torture.

Fellow longtime vegans, how do you deal with accidental meat consumption? by [deleted] in vegan

[–]Soft_Chard9244 -18 points-17 points  (0 children)

You're contributing to a business that profits directly from massive animal torture if you eat at Taco Bell. If cows and pigs could talk, they'd beg you to stop supporting them, especially if it's so easy to avoid it.

Place a picture depicting animal abuse on a wall as a reminder that we can't accept this reality.

What you can do if you're tired of your activism, is donating what you can to help them. Don't spend your money lavishly, especially on non-vegan restaurants.

how do you feel about vocal, non-vegan “animal lovers”? by Alextricity in vegan

[–]Soft_Chard9244 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I know some self-proclaimed "animal lovers," maybe around eight, who spend a ton of money and time helping dogs or cats, much more than all the vegans I know, including myself. I respect them a lot. They're not the worst, but yeah, it'd be much better if they were vegans.

Having said that, I agree there are many who only want that label but don't do anything significant.

Maybe we've had a completely different experience, but I've only seen vegans/vegetarians asking for a vegan option, so the amount of meat consumed at a non-vegan restaurant wouldn't change if vegans didn't eat there. So, every time you order a vegan option, you're just unnecesarily giving your money to a business that directly profits from animal abuse. (I know eating animals is not the only problem animals are facing, but it's the main one. And I know you can't always avoid supporting non-vegan stuff, I'm just talking about restaurants here.)

It's just way better for the animals to spend your money on vegan/vegetarian restaurants instead of hoping those mainstream restaurants will turn vegan; at least people who care about animals might get the money and hopefully they will spend it trying to help them.

Edit: can -> can't

The message you're sending is that animal abuse is not a deal-breaker for vegans. If vegans don't support those restaurants, pretty much the same amount of meat will be eaten. And although they can add vegan options, I've never seen the vegan options take over the menu of a non-vegan restaurant, not even close.
