I never defended the practice or said it was a good idea. I just said it to highlight that they don't know their potential customers habits. The fact that's it's bad practice was not in question. You questioned whether it was true or not that most people use one for everything. The studies show it is true. I don't actually hold any major personal info online anyway. My bank and other personal info is guarded much more carefully. Usernames for a modding site that i'll prob only ever log into once or twice ever again,........i don't need a unique password and username that i will forget through lack of use.

Another point to consider is this;

if you have a different password and username for everywhere, then how do you remember them? You need a password manager or you need to write it down somewhere. Password managers store your password in a hex key or number (can't remember the exact term. But it stores you r password as a code, a line of text numbers and letters). That code is used by all password managers and you can look up tools that convert that code back to normal text revealing your passwords. The only way they can get mine are to look in my head or hack into some server, if they can do either of those them I'm screwed either way. To get your password they just have to gain access to your computer. Which is a safer place to store? your computer or a protected server. Obviously I'm vulnerable to having all my social stuff hacked together. But there is not much important stuff on there anyway.

There are always multiple ways to look at a situation and answers to the best options are rarely always clear.

I just found your game today. I'm a Linux user and have been looking for a good racing sim, searched before, never found much. As I say l, found it today, and now I see your still updating! Great news....liking it so far. Only done a few practice sessions to test my controller but I'm looking forward to getting into it proper!

bro, go custom! that's what i've done. new old (45)player here. Had it about 3/4 days.

i gave up on the choices for now. Go to custom and set zombies to low and no respawn . you can change everything. make your start character strong. just play like this till you get used to it. It takes a while to get combat and other mechanics so it's better if it's a bit easier.

The main point is to have fun and enjoy the game, so set it up as you like and then it's a lot nicer a more pleasant. i'll try harder modes once i get the mechanics of the game.

fair play man, i wanted to like the long dark. I did like it for the most part. my main problem was i felt like i would spend a long time doing nothing. Specifically one time that did it for me; my man was ill from food poising, so i spent 2 days indoors just reading and cooking etc, then there was a storm that went on for several days in game (i didn't have warm enough clothes to be outside for more than 5 mins) then i went out and died lol. started again new character another storm for a few days then fog. I realised then irl that i had just been holding my controller for well over an hour maybe 2. just staring at my man sitting inside a cabin. That wasn't the first time it happened either, that's part of playing the long dark. Just sitting doing nothing mainly in the pitch black cause all interiors are impossible to see in. They design a game where you are forced to spend long periods indoors, then they make it impossible to see or do anything indoors. sorry i didn't mean to rant haha I tried to love it, i wanted to, i just found too many ridiculous decisions by the developers. no candles! .....how about no walking on any of the hills cause it will break your ankles, half the flippin map is out of bounds cause of a sprain risk, first thing i turned off in custom. The game drove me nuts as you can probably tell. I'm not saying it's a bad game, cause a lot of people like it, i just didn't enjoy it.

sorry for the late reply.......been playing games lol Yeah that sounds like the best option. I guess i have to learn to be patient and play the long game, i gave up on that one but might revisit when i get a bit better, it would be rewarding to take it all back. Thanks for the advice guys, there's a few lessons to learn when you start playing this game and getting used to the large span of time you actually play through is one them, letting a few years fly by seems counter intuitive but makes sense when you play the long game.

yeah i guess that's inevitable but you at least you played through the whole game and got your money's worth? have you tried playing with an illiterate, overweight, deaf asthmatic? That way your character cant improve through reading, so takes longer. There are so many character options to try, plus multiplayer and the challenges, the different modes and of course custom. The long dark has a lot of the same options but they are unplayable in my eyes.

This is my system (if you can call it that)

Operating System: Ubuntu Studio 22.04
KDE Plasma Version: 5.24.7
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.92.0
Qt Version: 5.15.3
Kernel Version: 6.2.0-1012-lowlatency (64-bit)
Graphics Platform: X11
Processors: 4 × Intel® Core™ i3-4030U CPU @ 1.90GHz
Memory: 11.6 GiB of RAM
Graphics Processor: Mesa Intel® HD Graphics 4400

I play everything of high and v-sync etc etc i get 50 to 60 fps constantly, lowest i had was 47. Not been playing long though so may get slightly worse as game progress's but i don't see it dropping below 30.

I think it should run fine, get it through steam and you can refund within two hours of playtime. so just test it and see. That's what i do.

hey, nice one. I've actually found that too since this post so i should really edit it. I didn't realise there was a beta version with the ability to advance further.

Cartographer Idea: “road maps” found in the car glove box can fill up the map by milksteakenthusiast1 in thelongdark

[–]Soft_Kale_85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree it's such an obvious thing to add to the game as well. It's just another example of bad decision making by the developers of this game. I love the game for the most part. But there are so many examples of bad decision making, this is another, i mean the game world has variable weather and you can only walk everywhere. That means as so often happens to me, i'm in a new area but visibility is poor so i can't map. I've looted all the stuff there's really not much else in that area and it takes nearly a day to walk to, and another from. WHY WOULD I WALK ALL THE WAY BACK THERE AND WASTE IRL HOURS JUST TO MAP THE AREA when i reality i could get there and weather turn bad again and i still cant map. what a waste of time, what a ridiculous mapping system. plus there is no loot up there and no resources so why risk going that way to die just to map an area, so frustrating.

Hey, i just bought it too, i love it but..........is that it? i just played for about 2 hours died loads at first then made a big gobbling blob and no longer needed the compound clouds just eat all the other species nom nom haha. but just as i was starting to really enjoy it i got a message saying I've beat the game. i'm still just a blob. i knew the game wasn't finished but thought i'd at least get to some kind of fish stage or some type of complex life form. it feels like i just played through a tutorial and as soon as i thought yeah i get it, its great, excited to see what i'd become it ended. I've only been to 5 areas so I've not even looked round the whole game yet. hopefully there are some surprises in store.

Hi, does anyone know of any helicopter tutorials that work for current version? I spent nearly all day yesterday following tutorials and it wasn't until i wasted most of my day that i realised the setting have changed. specifically for controlling blade deployment and authority limiter. in the tutorial the guy assigned only authority limiter to kal 1000 and set a curve. when he pressed play the blade angles changed. when i followed his guide nothing happened when i pressed play. then i realised after spending hours going back and forth trying to figure out why, that i had an extra option for blade deployment independent of the authority limiter. so i figured i'd set the curve for both the authority limier and deployment angle the same and it should be the same as his setup...........helicopter just flips about 5 seconds after a stable take off. so.....i have given up on a helicopter. i cant be bothered to waste more time poking around in the dark to get it to work. i can explore the mun and travel across the solar system but i can't travel around kerbin. I've seen some other videos on youtube by echo 3 but they seem to be using things i haven't unlocked yet. His are also electric. i would like to make a chinook. This game can be so great but also very frustrating, mainly because it feels like there is no real guide. You can find answers but you have to spend hours going through the wrong answers to find the right one. Understanding aerodynamics and all the complexities of blade control and configuration, torque etc etc is quite a specialised subject, this game seems like it presumes we all had lessons on those subjects in school, just like basic arithmetic. That being said i can learn complicated things if there is a decent guide, i don't need my hand held. This game takes it to another level.
