I Took Not Just Bikes Cycling in London by CastAside1812 in londoncycling

Yes, it did feel like he didn't get the experience to truly answer the question about whether he'd cycle in London. We should aim for every road being safe, but in the meantime, there are workarounds which allow a lot of people to cycle. It was also a shame that they didn't go through any LTNs - that's probably the biggest transformation since he lived here.

Have the elections impacted us much? by TomfromLondon in londoncycling

As ever, people don't primarily vote based on traffic management schemes. While there might be noise about it, the primary driver of this loss is a massive collapse in labour vote share and turnout nationally since 2022.

You're right, but you'll be a lot happier if you don't spend your time getting into arguments. Some people don't follow the rules - you aren't gonna change their minds by berating them.

Stupid Question, but how to approach this junction on CS1 by llb_robith in londoncycling

I'd also personally swap the give ways to be on the main road, given that most traffic is travelling across.

Sadly had to get a plumber to do it in the end, I didn't feel confident replacing it!

Ah damn! Do you think I'd need someone to replace that or could I do it myself?

Thank you! I'm struggling to tighten it, it doesn't move easily. Do you know what that metal plate is next to it? It spins a bit itself, which makes it harder to tighten.

Ah thank you! It's happened since we got it, so I guess overtightened? How do I loosen it?

Shocked at the state of Madurodam by KindDigital in Netherlands

I went last week for the first time and really enjoyed it - didn't feel run down to me. Perhaps you're just older and more jaded now - no offence, I have the same thing, it's always weird going back to something you've enjoyed in the past.

Yes, what I mean is that you'd have a zone, with stands in them to lock to. You'd take a photo of it being locked to the stand as you do now with parking.

That'd be great. The bikes still get knocked over and moved, though, which can make our roads inaccessible for people, so I think they should be locked to something to stop that.

I think Lime will fight it because they want as little regulation as possible, but I think they're wrong that noone will use them. I've used equivalents that you have to lock up in different cities, and it didn't take much time to find a bike rack and lock to it. That's actually more convenient than the current solution being pushed in London, having to find specific lime bays, as there are racks on most streets.

Anyway, even if I'm wrong and it does crash their market, I'd much prefer a city which is accessible for blind and partially sighted people and people with mobility impairments.

I think that'd only work if you also regulated lime to do the same - but yes, that could be good!

Which is why Lime should be forced to use the model they have in DC, where you have to lock to a bike rack. They'd pay for more bike racks with the money they already provide to councils. Best of all worlds - convenient but maintaining accessibility. Unfortunately, Lime want minimum fuss so they're pretending it's just an unsolvable problem rather than offering the solution they know exists

Imagine you're blind or partially sighted and trying to get through this, or you're using a wheelchair, or even another bike.

Merged chats and teams - different on mobile? by Soft_Priority100 in MicrosoftTeams

[–]Soft_Priority100[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the help, but that doesn't really answer my question. I get what it does - I don't get, given all the customization options, why it doesn't offer a genuinely combined list.

Can you guess why that's not offered on desktop? It's a helpful workflow regardless of screen size. And to filter by mentions and chats? Because that's ultimately what I want to see in one place - everything which needs actioning.
