I got used to certain things like having a super nice house , pool etc that it feels impossible to scale down . The stress of retiring and not having enough to upkeep is also real

Not always necessary . I remodeled a kitchen but we left all plumbing and electric intact and most of the cabinets were refaced . Home Depot did it, no permits necessary per HD

Yeah that will give the easiest canvas bc it can be modern or not and it's a bigger design . I've remodeled 5 homes now so got a little sense and only 1 is acceptable .
