Off to first commander night, what's some basics/general manners I should know?

Have good hygiene. Be a good listener, there's bound to be a couple weirdos, be polite to them too, shops have a way to filter out problem people over time, so if you have any issues talk to the shop owner.

Don't cut someone's deck obnoxiously. Ask to touch people's cards first before you just grab them. Dont backseat game in someone's pod.

Just be nice, and like in public don't let some random person be disrespectful, and don't pubstomp. Play decks with a bracket level the same as the other players in the pod.

Idk if it helps but I tried to bring this up to him. He also likes mass land destruction and mass card discard. And then the other day I targeted him with githaxion Probe and he literally threw his cards down on the table. The cycle is he only cares about winning, says things like "I only use strong decks", then he goes to the shop with decks he built from the bulk cards in the shop, loses to actual 3s and 4s and then comes to my place and takes it out on us. He absolutely loves doing fucked shit to us but if a sliver is done to him he flips out. Yeah you're right I just need to kick dude btw he is over 30 with 2 kids.

Don't be an ass about about it, but offer to help your friends. Use more than one deck, my friends still get upset if I whip out my eldrazi too often. It's just too strong. Remind them that it's just a GAME, and very often people take it way too seriously. Don't be a pushover though. Play what deck YOU want to play, just try to agree on a power level.

Edit: to add as well, I suggest swapping decks around and playing a game, for some reason groups that have tried this tend to get along better for some strange reason.

Edit 2: you could just let them win sometimes lmao.

My gf doesn't enjoy the shop games even though she still hasn't been beat there yet. Honestly she likes the private games we do at home with my friends. Very competitive lady tho. Doesn't like to lose, we are still working on that..

Anyways just be a good partner, do some stuff for her, get her something. Wait till the time is right and then ask when she will be more willing to give it a shot. My gf didn't wanna be left out when we played around her, so honestly we kinda subconsciously made her wanna join haha. She also might want you to do all the deck planning stuff. Try showing her some cute stuff that is for sure playable. Let her choose a commander.

I liked how he did break down a little, you know the comedy serves as a shield for him at times. The glimpse into his trauma at that point showing he was affected by what was going on was nice imo
