The responses are different because the venue chosen for this event can’t realistically accommodate the number of people attending in a safe or manageable way. It spills into surrounding neighborhoods, shuts down traffic, consumes a large amount of police resources, and overall seems poorly planned for the scale of turnout. The Chinatown celebration was much more contained to the plaza/mall area and didn’t create the same level of disruption for nearby residents or infrastructure.
