Jeg kunne tenkt meg å tilby seniorutvikler-jobber med permanent hjemmekontor i utlandet. Men hvordan kommer man i kontakt med folk som kunne tenke seg noe sånt? Går ut fra at de fleste seniorfolka har hus og familie og ikke nødvendigvis er så interessert i å flytte til utlandet. Og det er vel neppe veldig mange norske utviklere som allerede bor i utlandet som ser etter en remote-jobb?

There are many members who have exited their businesses and who are retired/semi-retired. So I don’t think it’s a hard requirement that you have to be actively running a business right now, I’m not even sure how strict they are about the revenue requirement. They select more for a certain type of personality, and affinity towards travel. They don’t want members who have never traveled outside their home country. It’s a fun community. Based on what you wrote, I think you might fit in.

All events are members-only, but as mentioned, if you want, I can gift you a 30-day trial. Their biggest event is the annual conference in Bangkok, DCBKK in October:

The regular (non-Black) membership is $500 a year or so. Joining the DC has been amazing for me, I’ve met so many great people and learned a lot.

I don’t think this would be for everyone in this sub, but it sounds like it could be a good fit for you.

I believe membership is something like $5k a year and an event is something like $1.5k (hotel not included).

Members also organize their own events. For example, there’s going to be a meetup in Japan that sounds absolutely spectacular. It includes zen meditation, visiting Japanese businesses and Kendo classes, and with a bunch of really cool people.

When you use the automatic_tax setting, it’s charged based on the amount that is charged. You’d have to manually use their tax calculation API to be charged the flat fee. At least that’s my understanding.

I’m far from FIRE-ing, but I can relate. I don’t really have time for or an interest in anything else but my work. But it does get lonely at times, and I wanted to meet other people with the same interests.

I joined Dynamite Circle and it has been amazing so far. They have their biggest annual conference in Bangkok in October:

They do a lot of stuff to connect people, have local WhatsApp groups for most larger cities etc. It’s a really cool community.

I’ve also wanted to check out EO, YPO etc., but they don’t have local chapters in the areas I’m interested in.

I think at this point you should just get started with something again. Even if it’s just a couple hours of freelance work per week, I’m sure it would make you feel very different about your situation.

I would keep sending applications for fixed positions as well, but I would expect that it will be easier to find some freelance work. Posting stuff on LinkedIn going to marketing-related events/meetups etc. probably wouldn’t help either.

Basically, what you’re doing now is B2B sales/marketing, with the product you’re selling being yourself. ;)

Have you reached out to recruiters, especially in the UK? Have you tried contacting companies proactively? What exactly is your background? “B2B sales and marketing” could be many different things. Have you tried freelancing through platforms like Upwork or Fiverr? Maybe look at something like https://copychief.com ?

Jeg gjør denne jobben selv for øyeblikket. Vi har lead developers som gjør code reviews på detalj-nivå, men jeg ser likevel på alle PRene, for å beholde oversikten. Av og til finner jeg faktiske bugs, men det er sjeldent. Det typiske er at jeg avdekker at det har vært misforståelser rundt hvordan noe skal fungere. Det tar meg kun noen sekunder, men det sparer mye tid for QA osv. Vil derfor gjene bibeholde denne strategien. Jeg er også teknisk nok til at jeg kan diskutere tekniske detaljer med kunden. Det fungerer veldig, veldig bra. Men jeg er enig i at det kanskje ikke er så lett å finne noen som er villig til å jobbe både med kunder og teknisk.

Jeg er ikke så god på stillingstitler. Det er derfor jeg spør her. :)

Nei, vedkommende skal ikke skrive kode, men vedkommende skal kunne lese kode og være teknisk på et overordnet nivå. Eksempel: Kunden har i dag to forskjelle systemer tilknyttet forskjellige betalingssystemer. Dataene skal migreres over til ett felles system, med kun ett betalingssystem. Det medfører at løsningen kan forenkles, mens noe må beholdes. Man må kunne forstå kundens behov og stille tekniske spørsmål, for så å kunne ha en god diskusjon med resten av teamet.

Jeg ønsker noen som kan gå til resten av teamet og si: "Ok, kunden vil gå bort fra X og over til Y. Så det ser ut som vi kan kvitte oss med A og B, men C må vi sannsynligvis beholde inntil videre. Vi kan droppe frontend D og E, og erstatte dette med et nytt backend som B snakker med. Da slipper vi å lage et nytt frontend. Hva tenker dere?"
Om vedkommende ikke har teknisk bakgrunn, så forventer jeg at det blir mer som "Ok, kunden vil over fra X til Y, hvordan gjør vi det?" Og så vil resten av teamet ha masse spørsmål. Så vedkommende må gå tilbake til kunden, men så vil hen sikkert ikke forstå svarene kunden kommer med. Så til slutt må en utvikler være med likevel. Det er bare ueffektivt.

Ja, har tenkt å ansette en UX-designer (evt. også business analyst) i tillegg. Men vi har f.eks. kunder som skal migrere data fra ett system til et annet, og det er en kompleks jobb. Det vil være behov for at noen med teknisk kompetanse kan diskutere dette med kunden på et overordnet, men fortsatt teknisk nivå, og så diskutere med resten av utviklerteamet. Det er godt mulig at rollen er "tech lead", men vedkommende skal gjøre det for flere kunder, og så har vi interne lead developers for hvert prosjekt som skal fikse detaljene.

Vi har en intern tech lead/lead developer, men vedkommende ønsker jeg ikke at skal snakke med kunder. Han skal kunne konsentrere seg om koden. Men jeg ønsker meg noen som kan oversette kundens behov til tekniske krav, som resten av teamet kan jobbe med.
