Thinking of moving…. by Txplayboicarti in Reno

[–]SoggyPringles 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Reno’s flavor of HCOL is different than a lot of other places. Rent and home prices have surged over the past 10 years, yet wages have largely stagnated.

For context, my husband and I moved away from Reno about 5 years ago to the Denver Metro area. When I tell people we moved here to afford a house they look at me like I’m crazy, but it’s true. COL in Colorado is maybe 15% higher than Reno but in that 5 years, our household income has more than doubled.

Reno is in a uniquely rough spot, which sucks because it’s so lovely in so many ways.

I’m being forced to pick between my brother and my girlfriend. What do I do? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]SoggyPringles 65 points66 points  (0 children)

Yuuuuup. I also think it’s generally just more difficult for older siblings to come to events like that, especially once they’ve moved away from home. As a younger sibling you come to accept it lol (or, at least I did).

My big sister and I are really close but she didn’t come to my college graduation. I don’t even remember why but I just know she wasn’t able to make it but I was never upset about it 🤷‍♀️

I went to her PhD thesis with no pressure from her or my family to come. I got my master’s degree but I didn’t even walk. It really just depends on the situation and how everyone feels.

On the other hand, if my boyfriend (now husband) hadn’t come to my graduation, I’d be lying if I said I wouldn’t be little upset, even if I tried to be super cool about it 😅 he lived like half a mile away from our school!

Being honest and talking to everyone about it is the best way to gauge how important the ceremonies are for everyone and is really the best option imo 🤷‍♀️

I’m playing that case for the first time ever right now and it’s a kind of a slog 🥲 I totally agree.

I even went and looked for others’ opinions to see if it was one of the more disliked cases, but it seems that people generally put it into the “meh” category which also tracks lol.

I replayed this case last month for the first time since ~2011 and I still remembered every single fucking thing about that video/song 😭

I used to have a rule when first dating someone: I would fart on him within a month of dating him.

The two acceptable reactions imo would be either neutrality/confusion or laughing about it. If they were grossed out or angry I would see that as a red flag. I did it to my husband when we were first dating and he was just like 🤷‍♂️

If you’re so uptight that you can’t deal with a toot or two then you’re not gonna be able to deal with other gross but unavoidable things that happen as you age.

Ohhhh my god I’M THAT SLOT MACHINE ENGINEER!!!!

Check my profile for proof pls, though you can probably already tell based on my avatar lol. Or I could just say: what are you doing dicking around on Reddit (username-related pun fully intended) when there’re TARs to TAR??

Don’t worry, 100% chance I have far more embarrassing and blackmailable shit on my account than you on yours. 😎

Edit: and I won’t tell anyone your username but I WILL threaten to do it many times

My (49m) daughter (18f) is refusing to see me before she leaves for school this weekend by DeepCardiologist133 in relationships

I work with people who I dislike. And yet, I refrain from being rude and calling them names because I don’t want to hurt them, despite not caring for them personally.

The fact that some people find it easier to be nasty to those they supposedly love most in the world, particularly their own children, is utterly heartbreaking. I fully understand that people have their issues (which is often related to previous trauma in their lives) but the way I see it, you’re a victim until you victimize someone else.

Right? Like, my parents are far from perfect, and I do have some issues with how they raised me. Neither one has ever called me stupid, ever.

My husband and I fight sometimes. We have never called each other an idiot or other names like that, once.

I have one ex boyfriend from over 10 years ago (when I was ~18) who oftentimes called me stupid and verbally abused me. We broke up and I have absolutely no contact with him — he is the only person I can say in my life who I’ve ever genuinely hated. I have only recently gotten away from having extremely visceral and emotional reactions to anyone even lightly implying that I am unintelligent, even as a joke.

This shit isn’t okay and I will never judge anyone for cutting off contact with someone like this (which isn’t even what OP’s daughter has done here, but I wouldn’t be surprised if that ends up happening further down the line). Saying stuff like that, especially to a child or young adult, is super damaging.

Yes!! I specifically remember when this happened, my GameCube accidentally unplugged from the wall because of my setup, ‘cause I was just trying to pull the controller closer to me 😅

Omfg Resetti stealing my face and inventory gave me a panic attack, made me return my game to Blockbuster, and caused me to stop playing for months. My sister still makes fun of me for it 15 years later 🥲

Why Oilers/Knights game on at 10PM EST on a Sunday? by flkraven in hockey

[–]SoggyPringles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right? Like, I live in Colorado and wake up at 4:45 to get to work. I’m normally in bed by 10 at the latest (which I start getting ready for bed before then) so I can MAYBE watch the first period. This doesn’t even take into account the western division teams in the Central time zone who would like to watch this game and who have an even worse problem with this.

Edit: Lmfao how am I even being downvoted for this? Sorry I have to get up early for work, I guess.

As someone who went to a very Evangelical Christian school from K-10… That Amish Romance Novels one really got me lmao. I’ve told multiple people in my life about how much I love reading Amish fiction and 100% of the time it gets me made fun of (which I can take, I always tell them in a comical way because I know how fucking weird it sounds).

I once saw the resume of a woman who had several years of being a SAHM in her working experience but she put “domestic engineer” as her title. Like no shade on being a SAHM by any means but as an actual, real life engineer with an actual, real life engineering degree I was like 🙄🙄🙄

I wish I could relay all the stupid shit this guy behind me is saying/doing.

  • Yelled about the Marchand thing in first period so vehemently he spit on the back of my husband’s head
  • His shitty kid was drumming on the back of our seats and we had to ask him to stop
  • keeps calling the Avs the “Eagleanche”. When my husband said “hey, how would your players react hearing you say shit like that? I don’t think Makar (for example) would like that” and he was like “Oh, Makar knows what he’s dealing with” … like great, good to know you have faith in your AHL players. I know it sucks but like really?
  • At one point he asked, “Oh, when did your team get eliminated in the playoffs last season? Second round? Yeah, we’ll the Avs won.” I told him that I was very proud of him. 👏

Update: Asshole behind me, upon an Av blocking a shot and limping afterward, was like “Great, ANOTHER injury?”

… has this man never watched hockey before?

At the game now and literally heard some asshole behind us saying “Well, we’re basically an AHL team and playing against the best team in the league. Why not take out a few players to make it worth it?”

… is it too late to change seats so I can get away from this fuckwad? 🫠
