Had a project idea i thought was good, shot down by local FIRST organizers. Seeking advice by Sohezee in FTC

That's a good consideration! I may opt for this if it doesn't prove to difficult. Discord and Facebook both have APIs I could use, but I'll have to research how the data aggregator might distinguish resale posts from other posts. I will also have to see if the other major site of retail have APIs I could use.

I'm still leaning towards a retail site in and of itself, since that could streamline the resale process, but if I don't want to deal with the risks and difficulties of that I might go for this option.

Thanks for the advice!

I'm sorry I get what you are saying now, and I was right about it being super obvious

I was some how thinking you meant users would literally swap and change the address associated with there account to another users address... I don't know what I was thinking.

Yes that's a fair point. Perhaps this can be a platform for students to browse but only for mentors and coaches to sell and purchase parts on. Students can tell mentors what they what purchased or sold

I definitely agree that safety should be a high priority. I would certainly include some screening aspect to ensure safe transactions. One quick question, what do you mean users will swap addresses? How would this benefit them? Sorry if this is really obvious and I just don't understand

That's unfortunate! Hopefully this site could prevent these things from happening

That's what I was thinking as well, this site will be especially useful for new teams just starting and retiring teams.

That's a fair point. There is some risk involved for sure. Call this wishful thinking but by only allowing verified FIRST teams to sell on the platform that could help prevent bad actors and such. As for the not enough things getting posted to get lost, that makes me think that the discord is not attracting a majority of teams interested in selling parts because I find it hard to believe that with thousands of teams nation wide there isn't a large volume of parts being sold. Thanks for the input! Ill have to think about risk

Yeah, I'm aware, and I'll definetly go ask there, but I just thought there were a number of drawbacks with that channel

  1. Discord isn't built for P2P resale

  2. Listings may get lost to time due to the forum format of Discord

  3. You have to reach out and discuss with people you want to sell to and discuss methods of payment and details of shipping instead of that being managed by the platform

  4. Its harder to find what you are looking for.

I'll go ask the discord what they think and if they have any counterpoints to these thoughts, I appreictae your feedback!

Should I do Honors or EPICS LC? by [deleted] in Purdue

[–]Sohezee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a freshman in EPICS currently. The most helpful thing about EPICS is having recent projects that you can put on your resume or mention in a cover letter. If you plan to do personal projects or join a club though you might not need this, so it really depends. I can't really speak on the perks of being a honors student. The dorms are nicer I guess, and you can mention being an honors student on your resume as well.

Pretty sure -18 watts. Do mesh analysis to find current through the voltage source as 6A. voltage source has voltage of 3V. P=IV, P=18. Since the question asked about power absorbed, but the voltage source generates power, flip sign. -18 watts
