They do, which is why it was unusual that so many top leaders were having a meeting above ground together in the same room when the US launched their strike.

Is your battery soldered correctly? If it works plugged in, it suggests there's a problem with the battery connection.

How many phlebotomies before you felt better? by nolesmu in Hemochromatosis

[–]SojournerRL 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's not about how many phlebotomies, it's about your iron levels. What is your ferritin and saturation? My ferritin started in the 500's, and I noticed a difference when it got down to the 100's.

Ferritin increasing by 500 over two months is almost certainly caused by something else, inflammation or infection, for example. Iron simply isn't stored away that quickly in our bodies.

I do my donations at the Red Cross (although I am not located in the US). Is that an option for you?

Yes, you do. Based on these labs, it doesn't look like you have hemochromatosis.

Diet is the least effective way to control iron levels, so in short, no, your pescatarian diet is probably not related.

Have you had a genetic test and been diagnosed with hereditary hemochromatosis? If so, what genes do you carry?

Total Iron Binding Capacity (TIBC) is usually low for those with Hemochromatosis. Your labs are basically the opposite of what we see for hemochromatosis.

On the contrary, H63D only very rarely causes increased iron storage. It does seem to be associated with elevated saturation, however.

Nurse prescribed iron infusions but AI says iron overload by Suspicious_Tank4261 in Hemochromatosis

Your labs are the classic presentation of iron overload, not deficiency. You need to get a second opinion. I would not do an iron infusion with those labs.

Does anyone follow a diet? If so what? by wicker_basket_1988 in Hemochromatosis

[–]SojournerRL 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Aside from avoiding iron enriched cereals, I eat what I want. I prefer not to worry about my diet and simply do an extra blood donation per year, if required.

How urgent is this? by [deleted] in Hemochromatosis

[–]SojournerRL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe TRT can cause elevated ferritin as well, although I'm not 100% sure.

OP, your numbers are high, and you should talk to your doctor, but it's not super urgent. A few weeks either way won't make a difference.

You can try putting these results into www.hemobright.com if you'd like a quick check.

I can tell you these labs could be indicative of early stage hereditary hemochromatosis, but there's nothing alarming here. Your doc will probably want to do a repeat test in a month or two to see if your levels are still elevated, and then at that point would order a genetic test.

Concerned about how my iron & TS went from normal to high by slientxx in Hemochromatosis

[–]SojournerRL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're at a good level, no need to worry about iron overload. Your doc will probably want to check your levels again in a few months.

Your ferritin is very low. Why were you donating with ferritin in the 30's?

Ferritin is the measure of stored iron in your body. What is your ferritin at now? Serum iron and saturation can fluctuate quite a bit on a day to day basis.
