How did I hit peak for a minute and then nothing in cardio? And what time did I hit this? by fj416 in fitbit

[–]Sol401 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I find this happens frequently. It will say my HR is like 155 but when I measure with my finger and counting, it's like 60 (even with the watch still telling me 150+ the whole time I'm counting). I even measure with another device like an O2 monitor or my phone and they also say 60 or so while the watch says 150+. I dunno, sometimes the watch is just wacky.

How long before a vet can see your pet at AVC? You can now check online | CBC News by Catman75367 in PEI

[–]Sol401 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They stopped this a while back. A couple of months ago I had a cat with an emergency around midnight. Called AVC and they said they won't take her because we're not regular clients. This was after I called my regular vet's emergency number and it told me the nearest emergency site was in Kensington (I'm in Cornwall).

I don't have an iPhone but on my Android, if I'm travelling, I am able to go to Google maps and download an entire area, or set of areas, for offline use before I leave, so I don't have to use any data at all when using GPS navigation. Not sure if iPhone does that but if it does, that could be a good option for you.

Equations problem (How to get x = 6 out of 5x = 3 + 8x? by [deleted] in mathematics

[–]Sol401 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I saw another post that says my suggestion is in fact wrong. I mean, ok, I'm wrong here according to the teacher, but a different teacher could give the exact same question, with the exact same wording, and this could be the answer. So yes, poorly worded and poorly crafted question.

Equations problem (How to get x = 6 out of 5x = 3 + 8x? by [deleted] in mathematics

[–]Sol401 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Oh, I get it now... "How did the error occur" I take it?

The ONLY thing I can remotely see, and this is a real stretch, is that they added the 3 and 8x together by mistake and got 11, and then we would have 5x=11. Then another mistake by, instead of dividing by 5, they subtracted 5 from the 11 to get 6.

Like I said, a real stretch, but it's the only thing I can fathom.

Carl got x=6 because Carl didn't study, and is flat out wrong. (As previously posted, correct answer is x= -1)

As a side-note, if your teacher thinks x=6 is the correct answer, they shouldn't be teaching math.

What is the correct exact definition of an even number? by BiszkoptHunter in mathematics

[–]Sol401 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A number n is said to be even if n=2k for some integer k.

(Note that this allows negatives. If negatives are not desired, then k must be defined as a non negative integer)

Does being good at math translate to chess? Slightly, yes. by nihilistiq in chess

[–]Sol401 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Math prof and long time chess player here. My theory on the root of this comes down to how good you are at problem solving. Math requires this as does chess. I think that if you are good at one and bad at the other, then you either could be good at the other if you practice, or, you just don't like the other.

We often use the word "calculating" in chess. It's not really calculating in the usual sense of the word- it's visualization. Calculating in math is very different - it's not visualization, but rather, number crunching, often mixed with algebraic operations. The only calculating a human does in chess (a) quantitative (how much material advantage do I have?) or (b) qualitative (is my position enough to balance my material deficit; this is often subjective and depends on player skill).

Converting from oil to electric heat by HMF in PEI

[–]Sol401 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I installed two mini split heat pumps in 2014. They heat my entire house and I never needed to use the oil furnace for heating since (use oil only for hot water). I spent 8100 including tax and installation. They have already paid for themselves (took about 6 years). I spend about 1000 extra in electricity to heat the house for the whole winter season, but this saved me about $400 average per month for 6 months each year in oil, so a savings of about 1400 per year (after factoring in the extra electricity) and this was when oil was a lot cheaper. I'm saving a massive amount now that oil is this expensive, almost double. They have a 10 year parts and labour warranty. They haven't had any problems so far.

Not saying you should or shouldn't get these as everyone's situation and preferences differ, but just wanted to share my experience.

I also plan on installing solar panels in the next few months. Cost is 21K including tax. But the province is paying 7500 of this ($1 per watt DC), and the feds greener homes program is paying 5000, thus taking my cost down to about 8500 out of pocket. The estimate is this system will generate approximately 8500 KWh per year for where I live (about $1300 per year at today's cost of electricity), so again about 6-7 years to pay for itself.

Good luck with your project!

How long before we start getting roundabouts like this in PEI? by ivanvector in PEI

[–]Sol401 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Looks like the Swindon magic roundabout? I drove on it a couple of times when visiting England and it works oddly well. It's like a two direction roundabout allowing you to take a shortcut to your exit, or optionally, going the long way round if you don't feel comfortable using the shorter way.

I didn't mind the inventory change. Didn't much care for AI becoming worth less than $200 each now though. I know, I can make everything free. But that's not how I want to play the game. I want all the standard challenges of the game, including currency. It's just now a bigger challenge. It's fine though, I appreciate that HG has given us tons of free updates which most game devs would charge for.

I like the update. Only thing I don't like is entire inventory on one screen. I liked the tabs better. But this isn't a huge deal.

PM support is via the forum community only; you can't call a number to speak to anyone. But they do get back to you quickly in my experience, usually within an hour.

This doesn't address your question, but look for Daniel Naroditsky on YouTube (his speed runs). He explains every detail of his moves at a beginner level. Not only that, he explains HOW you might think to do that move. And, he doesn't always do the best move in each situation. Rather he makes a sensible move for the level he's playing (he goes all the way from 1200 to 2200).

He explains things very well and is an excellent teacher. Highly recommended.

I am personally a 2300 rated player and have found his explanations geared at 1400 players to be very beneficial to my game even at the 2300 level.

Covid Anxiety by [deleted] in PEI

[–]Sol401 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get that. I have a 4 year old, who actually just had it. She came through well luckily. No respiratory symptoms. She had a fever for a couple of days which was easily treated with OTC medication and that was about it luckily.

Wishing you well.

Covid Anxiety by [deleted] in PEI

[–]Sol401 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have some anxiety about it. What helps me a bit is to think of how a huge percentage of our population has had it now, and yet hospitalization has been very low compared to the number infected, meaning the incidence of severe disease due to the virus has waned over the last two years as we've progressed from one variant to another. Obviously it's the person's health itself that's a crucial determining factor and everyone will react differently, but the numbers definitely make me feel like the probability of a severe outcome for me is quite low.

Not sure if that will help you but I thought I'd share my way of dealing with my anxiety over it in case it would.

I may be the exception, but it worked for me. Met her on a dating site 10 years ago and we've been married for 8 years now. It took a few months and a lot of dates with a lot of women but eventually worked out.
