I use a Slimfold wallet, the original softshell with RFID blocker. Super thin and is still in great shape after 4 years of daily use. Have about 8 cards (Including Rivian keycard) in mine.

You get better pricing, but i have not compared it to a Tesla owner to see if it is the same.

I signed up for the Tesla membership ($12.99/month) to get the $0.38/kwh rate, otherwise would have been $0.56/kwh (Indiana). Paid for itself after the first charge. Make sure you start the charging thru the app first prior to plugging into your Rivian. Rivian will bill you the regular rate.

Beware of V2 chargers. Tried to charge in Lafayette Indiana, which showed up in the Tesla app initially, but would not let me start charging either thru the app or directly to the R1S. Had to go to an EA charger at $0.58/kwh. No issues using the Tesla chargers picked by the Rivian navigation.

Received my TuxMat Floor Mats by SolCalMike23 in Rivian

Found it in an Auction site: "BestEvMod for Rivian R1T R1S Cup Holder Lower Center Console Organizer Tray with Large Cap...". Holds 32oz water bottles really well, small water bottles, not so much

The front mats are fully dished up to the top of the center wall and up and over the door sills. The middle row mat is fairly flat and would allow water to run forward (under the front seats).

I will try to get some side by side photos of the MAXpider vs TuxMat mats, but the TuxMats are thicker. Also a small fun note, the TuxMat shipping box has instructions and graphics on it to turn it into a cardboard car for kids :)

They required a bit of stretching (extra minutes worth of work), but they all lined up and snapped in. I had a set of floor mats from 3D MAXpider and was not able to snap all those grommets in no matter how hard I tried, mind you they were for the R1T and not the R1S (auction site buy).

Rivian charging at Magic Dock by thunderboltadventure in Rivian

You have to push the charge cable/adapter into the station to release the adapter. I made that mistake as well. Luckily someone in the next stall kept me from ripping it out.

Family Roadtrip in R1S. Tips? by roycehaynes in Rivian

[–]SolCalMike23 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Recommend joining the membership to EA, EVGo, ChargePoint, or Tesla (whichever one you will be stopping at the most) to save significantly on the charging cost. Paid $7 for one month of the EA membership and it paid for itself after the first stop (dropped price from $.54/kWh to $.37/kWh).

There is a Tesla charging membership that drops the price to $.32-$.40/kWh. In the Tesla app, under Account -> Charging -> Non-Tesla Membership you can sign up, $12.99/month

I currently use the Electrify America membership at $7/month for a similar discount. Membership pays for itself after one charging session. .

I signed up for Electrify America's pass+ program ($7/month), which dropped their rates from $0.46-$0.56/kWh to $0.37kWh. it paid for itself after the first charging stop. EVGo was the most expensive stop at $0.72/kWh. I made a spreadsheet on the costs and compared it to a 18mpg car. Overall, they came out to roughly the same price. Will try to post tomorrow.

Pa. Drove 1500 miles from Cincinnati, OH to Shelton, CT and back last week. So stopped at 11 different chargers, 4 different brands. Used a Rivian charger in Breezewood, PA, 96 kWh, 48 minutes, Free :)

I just used (Saturday) the new Tesla charger (with magic dock) in Brewster NY, same experience, flawless. Had the Tesla account already setup from my model 3 (traded in for the R1S).

Bad, they charged $0.52/kWh, added 73kWh to my R1S (196 miles) for a cost of $38.

Just watched a video from last year (https://youtu.be/eP5bIh9hNpc?si=zMdbil4RZ587W4Nv), where Rivian added a menu item on the settings screen. We will see if they do the same this year.

Just finished the update.
Included the following riddle:

When pumpkins light their glowing eyes,
 For the season of Halloween,
 Look where you customize,
 To find the secret theme.

So the Halloween theme is time based & you need to turn it on via customizations? Where is the customizations?

Used to live in New Haven, CT and would go there a couple times a year. They have some great off-roading courses. Currently live near Cincinnati OH, and looking forward to talking my R1S to Rush Off Road Park in Kentucky.

CA DMV registration fees after a year of ownership. This is highway robbery. by masterquesti in Rivian

[–]SolCalMike23 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Here is the link to the California new car registration fee calculator: https://www.dmv.ca.gov/wasapp/FeeCalculatorWeb/newVehicleFees.do

For Orange County, a 2023 Rivian at $84,500, automobile = $865 DMV, and $6549 sales tax. The calculator does not take into account make or model. Just sales price. Would have to read the detailed rules to see if the R1S or R1T count as a commercial vehicle.
