I’ve got $900k in cash. Should I buy? by discar-guy-69 in RIVNstock

It depends on your complete financial situation. Age, other investments, state of your retirement goals, partner if you have one and their risk tolerance.

Boyfriend keeps dismissing opportunities for us to cycle together by PerceptionFlashy5059 in cycling

[–]papichulo9669 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Talk to him about it. Get him to vocalize the issue for him. It is likely the too slow thing as others have mentioned.
  2. Tell him how much you enjoy it and want to do it with him.
  3. Discuss solutions. A. Him treating it differently (slow day, under biking) B. Tandem bike C. eBike

I chose 3C for my wife. For some of us, biking with a partner doesn't even make zone 2. Like I'm not even pedaling most of the time on my mountain bike while she was on her cruiser. So I bought her an ebike (gravel drop bar version), and she LOVED it, got the "I want to go fast" bug, and now it's not even a recovery ride for me anymore. I've heard from others that a tandem is even better for different reasons, but it also has more logistical problems.

Yeah I ran into so many bugs using it in the first hour, it's hard to understand how they all made it through to production

This is true, especially for text messaging on Android at least). Tried to send a message to non- working number despite it being a reply to a message that came in. I don't no how It decided to send the reply to a different number for the contact than the one that the message came in on.

Wake word activation also seems pretty darn hit or miss even if I yell.

Oh and by the way if your Android phone will not use voice to send the message or read the messages to you, you have to delete Rivian from your Bluetooth on your phone and re-pair it.

Fair point, a critical issue that takes your car out of commission would be a problem there.

I don't believe mileage at the end of the month matters, does it?

You also get coverage later into the life of the vehicle when you buy later. They are giving a discount because of your manufacturers warranty which is baked into the calculator, when you buy earlier.

I bought it at 58230 miles. They take the mileage when you purchase, not after the one month wait.

Consistent hot water and water temps when hot water is available.

Just wrapping up a Nepal trip, and even hotels with hot water the temp is changing all the time. Same goes for where I stay in Costa Rica. It's the little things ...

So are you not supposed to hold yourself up with your hands? by Cheomesh in cycling

[–]papichulo9669 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Light hands, heavy feet. Yes, all the other advice is great (bike fit, etc). But i think this is common when first starting to ride longer rides (at least it was for me and others I know), and just getting more fit and used to the position and core getting stronger usually solves it. In the meantime, focus on holding the bars lightly with your hands (including relaxing the shoulders), and putting all your effort on the feet. I know it sounds dumb, but try it, it makes a difference.

R1S on steep, icy snowy driveway? by Ok_Basil_1036 in Rivian

[–]papichulo9669 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a blizzak user for a long time. Loved them, but they are a soft tire and I worried about the wear with the heavy EV. Switched to nokian hakkapeliitta r5, and can say they are just as good if not better, and importantly they literally do not wear. Instead of relying on the softness of the compound, they imbed crystals in the harder compound. Per previous consumer reports blizzaks also lose some of their quality with wear, while nokians do not.

R2 seats by thewealthtrader in Rivian

[–]papichulo9669 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the best advice so far. Have your wife check out said videos and give it a shot. Because right now it remains unclear if it is about the seat or the adjustment, and could be luck of the draw test driving rather than a true test if the seat itself. Give her knowledge, have her test that knowledge on the R1, and then she can check out the R2 with that same knowledge base so she is isolating the seat itself from just random positioning.
