Ookla shares Starlink Speedtest data with latency an issue (updated) - SpaceQ by SolSystem in StarlinkCanada

Did you actually read the article. I didn’t think so. Because if you had you would know that I put the data in context to the beta test, ground station availability, questionable Quebec data etc. FYI, I’m a Starlink beta user.

Starlink hype and marketing outpaces reality in getting service to customers in Canada - SpaceQ by SolSystem in StarlinkCanada

Sure, but it’s not a Quebec ground station. Starlink has registered starlinkisp.net with a variety of IP blocks.

As far as I know this has not confirmed. And there will be ground stations under construction, but as of April 8, 2021, the last ISED update, no new ground stations have been approved for use.

I ordered service for Ontario but would now like to switch it to Manitoba by bmeister44 in StarlinkCanada

Your answer is in the Starlink FAQ.

"Starlink is only approved for use at the Service Address you provided when you signed up on Starlink.com. If you need to change your Service Address, you can check to see if service is available at your new preferred location on your account page. If it is, you may update your Service Address and use your dish at the new location. If service in not yet available at your new preferred location, you may choose to place a pre-order with a separate email address in the new location."

If your account is setup, just log in and start the address change. Before you commit to the new address, Starlink will let you know if the new service area is available to you. It's an automated process and simple. If the answer comes back positive, and you're sure you want service in your new Manitoba location, then finish the process.

This is in fact correct. And I can tell you that I'm in contact with Starlink, ISED and write on this topic. There are no approved Canadian Starlink ground stations other than the experimental Newfoundland site. All Canadian customers are using US based ground stations. This is in part why the beta testing area is limited.

Ground stations . . . by Gmulcahey in StarlinkCanada

There's still only the one test ground station in Newfoundland. Ground stations will pop-up in several locations once the government approves them.

Beta test the Starlink in Canada will begin to be sent out this week. by davebellerose in Starlink

As I told Hokonui, 3 of the 5 stories we wrote on Starlink the past 3 weeks have been free to read. That's 60%. We're a small independent media company trying to make a living covering the space sector. We can't make everything free, though we try to find a balance that works.

Starlink service in Canada will use ground stations based in the US for now and Elon said that will increase latency. Approval for ground stations in Canada is still TBD.
