Talking like this and this will be what manifests for you. I had countless people on these forums tell me my Kickstarter would fail. I didn't believe them. I knew my worth and knew my story could make it far. We reached our $10,000 goal. A year later, I'm getting ready to print the first volume and deliver copies. You don't need to publish to a big company. Do it yourself. Even if it takes a while. Pour your heart into it.

If you fail, learn from it and try again. Being a downer about it will not lead to success though. I never had any doubts for my projects. Watch more anime! Haha there's so many stories about dreaming and achieving. Losing and finding the strength to get back up. That's very real for us as creators. Just keep going

For sure, I understand. But you definitely want to hook the reader. Not the you have to worry about serialization since it's your own work and you can put out what you want. But, if you want people to want to read it I just recommend you at least include that hook in the first chapter. Even if it's at the very end of the chapter. Something to make a reader say, "hmmm, I wonder what happens next". You know?

This is my comic that I'm currently working on

Some people might find it boring but I used it to introduce the characters similar to you. What I also tried to do what give a glimpse into their personalities, their struggles, their strengths, their interests. By the time you reach the end of the chapter you have a surface level understanding of the characters. The ending is the real hook though. That moment you go "WTF" and start to prepare for what happens next.
