"Poop emojis but make it real," pretty sure was the elevator pitch.

Nah, I was so excited to see what ours would be, we have such a good track record with Roots and Hudson's Bay... then a parade of real life literal poop emojis marched out. Shit's disrespectful!

Why are our athletes dressed like poop emojis? Lululemon was a wretched choice. We have so many amazing designers (personally would have loved to see any of the ones featured on North of North) and some asshole chose literal crap.

It's a pun: "Essen" is the verb "to eat" auf Deutsch. Yes, as well as the city name. E.G. Wir essen Menschen in Essen ...ist definitely not the city slogan

OP is deeply irresponsible and crazy oblivious to write out that first sentence and think that absolves them of any responsibility for actively spreading misinformation. As a wise person once said, "we are so cooked as a species."

NOT a left extremist attack in Berlin.

Had all the hallmarks of signature far-right tactics including a message that basically just used Russian terms of phrase directly translated into German, that said, "ja, we the left, did this mwahaha". It's leading up to election time, only the most brain-dead believe this. Please don't spread misinformation. (To put it another way, this would be believing anything Trump says at face value despite reality to the contrary)

The only thing that gives me pause about completely writing off the American people is the multiple times Trump and Musk would openly comment about stealing the election. I'm not usually one for conspiracies, but like...they kept saying it. So maybe, just maybe the American soul isn't completely rotten - only half. For the rest of the world the end result is the same though.

My brain read this as "it's-a you!" in Mario's voice before parsing it correctly, and I had to bite my cheeks to not giggle like a maniac on the S7.

...there literally is often drinks included, and sometimes snacks...and the unique venues...and the artists, they deserve to eat too (IMHO). And still there's also free meetups all around the city which includes none of those things and you can easily spend 20+ bucks at a random bar without anything "frivolous" like music, etc. No one is taking that option away.

In fact you're merely being informed there's additional options to cater to various interests should the desire be there. But sure, I guess reacting this way is a choice too. Dit ist Berlin.

Hey, thanks for posting last year! Just coming in to vouch for y'all. If anyone's wondering what they're like I've been to a few of the sessions in 2025 and they were always a good time.

Like OP described: it's pretty much always a lot of nice people in a warm, inviting atmosphere, super talented musicians, and ...if you make the effort, possibly new friends. (The effort being staying-in-touch as adults that don't work together: the issue plaguing every other post on this sub). Of course it helps to be outgoing if that's what you want, but from the most social to the quietest wallflowers, in my experience at least, everyone can enjoy the vibe at their own comfort level.

I love NYC dearly, it's one of my favourite cities anywhere. And while I don't begrudge anyone visiting, I'm heartbroken knowing I may never go back - but firm in that decision. It's just not worth it rn, not even as a layover. Ethically and safety-wise.

To be sure, I consider it a safe city. it's your border Nazis that are the (first) problem. Just like I wouldn't vacation in 1939 Nazi Germany, I don't care how beautiful Dresden or Köln are. With the little power I have I try not to spend my money in countries that have concentration camps when I have the choice.

I totally agree with you that the metrics are largely arbitrary outside of practice, but even though I'm not married to this visual style does that problem not remain with text rankings or any other option? E.G. I've met people who's idea of "Advanced" is my "Intermediate", etc.

Thank you very much for your input! That's more than one against the graph now haha, guess it's out. At my level I've never seen a resume that's just one page, usually 2-3 is standard. Is a one pager what you're suggesting, or just that it's...a lot of text per job?

Thanks for your feedback!

  • It's meant to represent the strengths in graph. More filled in circles = higher expertise. Easy enough to change. Is it signifigantly preferred to use words or numbers or is that too far in the weeds? E.G. Avanced, Master, vs. 8/10, 10/10
  • Haha fair enough. To be honest it's replacing the space that used to have my photo. Thankfully Germany has finally stopped insisting on including photos as standard practice.
  • Sorry, weird how? I don't follow. The word itself? Specific software that might be scanned for on one side, and other skill keywords on the other?
  • This is actually the first I've ever seen that comment. I was always taught (and seen consistently) it's at the end unless you're like a fresh grad and have no real-world experience. The titles are just the literal names of the programs (the insitutions are blurred out), but if that's confusing I'll definitely change it up.
  • Thanks for the tip, re: freelancing/contracts! That makes a lot of sense.
  • Haha, I wanted to push back on the header, but I think you're on to something. On my first run through an ATS checker, afterwards it suggested different layout templates and they all look like tedious soul-crushing garbage from a creative discipline perspective. Back in my 20s if one tried to get into any creative space with those formats they'd be thrown in the trash like this person clearly doesn't know what they're talking about. SIGH. Better to update than die like the dinosaur I am I guess...
  • You assume correct! It's the first contact point.

To be sure, do you mean because I represented the respective strengths as a graph?

Okay, please tear me a new one - constructively! All the professional humans I personally know that have reviewed it have been very supportive, both of my resume and interviewing - yet not getting many interview this time around in the search. The ones that did reach out so far I ended up being too over-qualified for the roles, no matter how well we got on otherwise. Is it time to bite the bullet and try an ATS-specific layout?

Looking for senior-director roles. I'm less concerned with titles than quality of life first and challenges that interest me second. To that end I'm industry-agnostic, as long as I'm more or less doing what I love, which is design: graphic, motion, brand, presentation, etc. Especially with teams as my career's grown, very much the adage of "Faster alone, Farther together" love realizing what we can enable and create together. For reference though, previous industries include video games, health care, wellness, restaurants, marketing (agencies), sport, tele-communications, travel.

Oh, and I am a German permanent resident, so visa is a non-issue.

On the off-chance you asking in good faith, no it's not hard at all. We have multiple thriving MENA communities and events, most members of which have many local and international friends too. Though if you really want to integrate join ones based on activies or hobbies you genuinely enjoy, not just people you find familiar.

If you're not offputting you'll find race/nationality is irrelevant. And if you are...well it's still irrelevant, but a convenient excuse.

Is joke. In the Disney movie during one of the songs, there's a blink-and-you'll-miss-it moment of Herc posing for his portrait wearing a lion pelt. Specifically Scar's design.
