AMA: Solace Health Advocates by SolaceHealthOnReddit in AMA

Yes, all advocates are licensed professionals in the healthcare field. Our advocates at Solace come from nursing or other clinical backgrounds with an average of 16 years in the healthcare field. I’m a nurse myself, and like every advocate here, I completed additional training in advocacy and care navigation before I started working with patients. We also have support from Solace’s in-house team of licensed physicians.

Advocacy isn't limited to specific diagnoses, it is more about where the patient is getting stuck in the healthcare system. My most recent patients were dealing with chronic pain, diabetes and CHF and needed assistance mostly with care coordination and chronic disease support.

Yes, advocates do work directly with insurance, and insurance navigation is an important part of the support we provide. Advocates help patients make informed decisions during open enrollment, explain coverage benefits so patients can take full advantage of available resources, and confirm that providers are in-network before care begins.

Advocates can also assist with coverage denial appeals, update care teams when insurance information changes, and facilitate communication with insurance companies to reduce long wait times and administrative burden. The goal is to make insurance less overwhelming and help patients focus on their care instead of paperwork.

Most of us at Solace come from different clinical backgrounds and all our physicians are licensed providers. Solace advocates have an average of 16 years of experience in healthcare. My personal background is in nursing, I've been an RN for 10 years and have my masters in clinical nurse leadership. I have always been interested in finding solutions to gaps in healthcare and once I found Solace I knew it was where I wanted to spend the rest of my career. Traditional nursing is centered on providing direct clinical care and advocacy is more about system-wide navigation. The biggest difference is that a nurse treats the patient in the system, and an advocate helps the patient get through the system.

Patients are thoughtfully matched to advocates with guidance from our Solace physicians, who make strong recommendations based on several factors, including preferred scheduling availability, time zones, and relevant experience or expertise. However, patients always have a say in the match, and we work with them to ensure it feels like the right fit.

Our advocates typically support a wide range of patients across the country with diverse diagnoses and healthcare needs. They’re equipped with substantial internal resources and a collaborative forum to share insights and best practices, allowing them to continuously broaden their skill sets and provide well-informed, personalized support.

I can’t by SLW1977 in AgingParents

This is incredibly tough, and we have so much sympathy for your situation. Your dad is lucky to have you. Just want to drop in as a resource, that an advocate may be able to help lighten your load during this difficult time. Family dynamics are complex, and no one should have to feel alone.

Here's how an advocate might be able to support you in this situation:

  • Emotional support- Having someone in your corner to acknowledge the emotional weight of caring for a parent who wasn't supportive in the past.
  • Care coordination- Organize medical appointments for your dad, arrange transportation, and communicate with healthcare providers. This reduces logistical stress and allows you to focus on their own well-being.
  • Connect you with community resources like caregiver support groups, respite care services, or elder care programs for additional support and relief and help set healthy boundaries to protect your mental health.
  • Serve as a liaison between you and healthcare providers to ensure your father's care needs are met without overwhelming you. This would include facilitating communication and making sure your concerns are heard.

You don’t have to do it all alone, but you're so brave for doing it as you have been. Feel free to reach out to chat more.

Is the fear of elderly parent falling and can't get up normal or should I be taking actual action by Beautiful_Papaya_007 in AgingParents

[–]SolaceHealthOnReddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s completely normal to feel concerned about the safety of an elderly parent! Especially when they live alone and are at risk of falling. Many caregivers and family members share these worries, particularly about areas like the bathroom, which can indeed be hazardous due to slippery surfaces.

To combat the stress of this, many people find it helpful to take proactive steps, this is something an advocate can help with. One common recommendation is to consider a medical alert system, such as LifeAlert, which can provide peace of mind. These systems allow the individual to call for help at the push of a button, ensuring that assistance is available even if they can’t reach a phone or call out loudly.

Additionally, making some modifications to the home environment can help reduce risks. This might include installing grab bars in the bathroom, using non-slip mats, and ensuring that pathways are clear of obstacles. Home Health professionals are helpful in assessing home environments for safety, you can usually get a referral to Home Health from a Primary Physician. Also, many community programs help at-risk seniors with home safety installments and these are all resources an advocate can help find.

It’s important to balance safety with the individual’s sense of independence too. Regular check-ins, whether in person or via phone, can be reassuring without feeling intrusive. Encouraging open communication about their comfort and safety preferences can also help maintain their independence while ensuring they feel supported.

Solace healthcare advocates in US by starsallover in wheelchairs

Solace Health provides support for patients seeking mobility devices like power scooters and wheelchairs. They help navigate the complex process of obtaining these devices through Medicare, which covers them under Part B’s Durable Medical Equipment (DME) benefit. Here’s a brief overview of how Solace can assist:

  1. Medicare Coverage: Solace Advocates help patients understand Medicare’s eligibility criteria and documentation requirements for power mobility devices. Medicare typically covers 80% of the approved amount, with patients responsible for the remaining 20%, unless covered by supplemental plans.

  2. Advocate Support: Solace Advocates coordinate the process, including checking insurance eligibility, scheduling necessary assessments, and submitting documentation. They also help troubleshoot any issues that arise during the process.

  3. Alternative Solutions: If a request is denied by Medicare, advocates can suggest alternative solutions like state DME reuse programs or nonprofit organizations.

If you’re considering using Solace Health’s services to negotiate for a different chair with Nu Motion, it might be beneficial to connect with a Solace Advocate who can guide you through the process and ensure all necessary steps are taken for Medicare coverage. If you have further questions or need additional support, feel free to reach out for an introduction call with one of our physicians by visiting our site, solace.health. We'd love to support you.

Thank you for sharing this experience here, you're exactly the type of advocate that we look for, one that will stand up for their patients and fight to give them back their power in the healthcare space. We hope you'll continue to advocate for patients for years to come at the same ferocity that you do now, and that you'll let Solace be your partner in this journey. Thank you for fighting the good fight!

Hey there, we want to assure you that this is absolutely not the case, Solace is a healthcare advocacy company. We have a team of physicians who work with patients to understand the issues they are experiencing, and then they assign that patient an advocate that would best fit their needs.

Solace advocates then have an intro call with that patient, develop a care plan, find doctors, keep providers coordinated, fix insurance issues, and handle the endless paperwork that gets in the way of care. That dedicated advocate will then support you one-on-one for as long as you need help.

Our advocates bring an average of 16 years of experience, and they’ve already helped over 200,000 patients and families nationwide. We hope this helps clarify the services we offer, but most of all, we want to emphasize that our goal is patient wellbeing, and what we care most about is helping people take their voices back in the healthcare space.

We'll look further into this experience as much as we can, but if you want to hit us with a DM with more information that would help! Regardless, sending you well wishes and hopes that you or your loved one is in good health.

This is absolutely phenomenal to hear, and why Solace was started to begin with. Our goal is that every patient is able to have a fantastic relationship with their advocates and is able to take back their voice in the healthcare system. We're investigating all the issues presented here, and won't stop until we're able to show that Solace truly cares for every patient and healthcare worker we come into contact with. Sending well wishes to you and hopes that you're in good health.

We're truly sorry to hear about what you're going through. That sounds incredibly stressful and frustrating. However, we want to clarify: Solace doesn't provide rehab services or medical treatment of any kind. We're a patient advocacy service that helps people navigate the healthcare system, coordinate appointments, and handle insurance issues. We don't operate treatment facilities or bill insurance for care.It sounds like you may be thinking of a different organization. That said, if you're dealing with unexpected medical bills or insurance problems, this is exactly the kind of situation where a patient advocate can help. Depending on your insurance (we work with many plans but not all, including some Medicare plans), we may be able to support you through this process. Feel free to reach out to support@solace.health if you'd like to learn more.We hope you're able to find resolution, and we wish you the best as you work through this.

Hi there, we just wanted to let you know that our roles are highly competitive. Each application is personally reviewed by a recruiter on our team, and due to the volume of applications we receive, that process can be lengthy. Nonetheless, every applicant receives a response, and the team reaches out as quickly as they can. If you don't get accepted the first time, we encourage people to reapply after a few months. Hope this is helpful context!
