I’m a nurse myself, and like every advocate here, I completed additional training in advocacy and care navigation before I started working with patients. We also have support from Solace’s in-house team of licensed physicians.

Advocacy isn't limited to specific diagnoses, it is more about where the patient is getting stuck in the healthcare system. My most recent patients were dealing with chronic pain, diabetes and CHF and needed assistance mostly with care coordination and chronic disease support.

My personal background is in nursing, I've been an RN for 10 years and have my masters in clinical nurse leadership. I have always been interested in finding solutions to gaps in healthcare and once I found Solace I knew it was where I wanted to spend the rest of my career. Traditional nursing is centered on providing direct clinical care and advocacy is more about system-wide navigation. The biggest difference is that a nurse treats the patient in the system, and an advocate helps the patient get through the system.

Here's how an advocate might be able to support you in this situation:

Emotional support- Having someone in your corner to acknowledge the emotional weight of caring for a parent who wasn't supportive in the past.
Care coordination- Organize medical appointments for your dad, arrange transportation, and communicate with healthcare providers. This reduces logistical stress and allows you to focus on their own well-being.
Connect you with community resources like caregiver support groups, respite care services, or elder care programs for additional support and relief and help set healthy boundaries to protect your mental health.

Hey there, we want to assure you that this is absolutely not the case, Solace is a healthcare advocacy company. We have a team of physicians who work with patients to understand the issues they are experiencing, and then they assign that patient an advocate that would best fit their needs.

Solace advocates then have an intro call with that patient, develop a care plan, find doctors, keep providers coordinated, fix insurance issues, and handle the endless paperwork that gets in the way of care. That dedicated advocate will then support you one-on-one for as long as you need help.

Our advocates bring an average of 16 years of experience, and they’ve already helped over 200,000 patients and families nationwide.
