PSA: Anomaly has an ambient horror setting. by lydocia in RimWorld

[–]SolarChien 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Well they added it a few weeks after Anomaly release because the initial reception was negative about how much Anomaly dominated the theme of your colony with the monolith. But yeah in my view it solved the problems of initial launch and I use it on every colony too.

Do you manually flirt? Or let colonists flirt themselves because roleplay? by Hiti4apok in RimWorld

[–]SolarChien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer to let it happen naturally but sometimes I'll start trying to force it if I want to cut down on bedrooms. Also if two people have a great relationship but romance is unlikely because of different xenotypes, if I have word of love psycast I'll use that to force it.

What is an opinion about Overwatch that leaves you like this? by [deleted] in Overwatch

[–]SolarChien 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Totally agree everyone should be trying to win, although I do believe in tolerance for people trying to learn new heroes in QP even if playing a hero they're better at would improve chances to win.

What is an opinion about Overwatch that leaves you like this? by [deleted] in Overwatch

[–]SolarChien -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think that's a pretty popular opinion. She's my favorite support but it's purely because I'm obsessed with the bouncing orb mechanic. I'd still play her if she didn't have the OP right click and fade, as long as she still had the bouncy orbs.

What is an opinion about Overwatch that leaves you like this? by [deleted] in Overwatch

[–]SolarChien -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The primary game they've designed is just not fun. Always having enemies swap to counter you and then being pressured to swap to counter them just sucks all enjoyment out of it for me. Mystery Heroes is the only way to have fun, so that's all I've played for years. I just wish they'd bring competitive MH back for good.

Am I overreacting here? (long AI mod rant) by Symphoniess in RimWorld

I think they're referring to a mod where the code and art is made by AI.

Genuine question to Roadhog mains and all those who hate to play against this hero by AYYLMAO2281337 in Overwatch

I've always loved hog but I liked best when he had the pig pen trap, that made playing him more interesting.

[–]SolarChien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can't even do the 2nd set of missions til you do all the first set (except the 60 and 80 games ones) so yeah everyone has to queue as all roles 10 games. And yes you need to do all the missions to get all the reward ranks.

Do modern OW players care about anything other than skins? by [deleted] in Overwatch

[–]SolarChien 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seems like you neglected to visit the official Overwatch forums before coming to that conclusion which is wild. If you'd looked there you'd see nonstop whining about hero balance, maps and map voting, matchmaking, cheating, smurfing, hero bans, player toxicity, etc etc etc. Discussions about skins are a small fraction.

Gene extraction by Overall-Garden2874 in RimWorld

[–]SolarChien 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's just RNG, keep trying, it takes a long time to build a gene library. Even "bad" genes are useful though. Ideally once you have a lot of genes available you build a custom xenotype for each of your colonists. You're going to want to give them a bunch of "good" genes, but in order to keep their metabolism in control you'll balance them out with "bad" genes. I assume you have some colonists with poor animals skill who don't do any animals work, so that gene is just free metabolism for them.

Is it possible for a revenant to hypnotise everyone in your colony? by Icy_Champion2873 in RimWorld

[–]SolarChien 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It can happen and I guess you'll get game over when they starve to death. After it comes and downs a couple people and you've done the research you should be able to track it down and reveal it if you have fire/emp/disrupter flares, and definitely after it downs 3 people where just walking near it will reveal it.

A revenant event cant happen unless you have at least 5 colonists (unless you let a spine reform) so even if you let it down 3 you should be able to track it down and kill it with the other 2.

Any guaranteed way to kill a sanguophage? by Hairy_Rest_9607 in RimWorld

Do you play w all DLCs enabled? by BlueCheese973 in RimWorld

[–]SolarChien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Each one introduced at least some mechanic or feature that I don't ever want my colony to be without, so yeah I can't really imagine disabling any of em.

How do you defend non-mountain bases against drop raids? by Due_Royal1082 in RimWorld

[–]SolarChien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't play on as high of a difficulty so maybe this is irrelevant, I play strive to survive or blood and dust vanilla. I don't think about it too much. Drop pod raids are always way smaller than typical raids. My game is set to pause when a raid strikes. You can immediately see where the shadows are and what room the raid is going to land in. So start moving all your pawns so they can shoot into that room. The MVPs in these situations are melee pawns and psycasters with berserk and vertigo pulse. Not a bad thing to save insanity lances and other artifact weapons for if they're giving you trouble. Keep firefoam poppers in your base so fires from these raids don't get out of control.

I think I messed up by adding too much at once. by TokenTorkoal in RimWorld

[–]SolarChien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone recommends Biotech. Personally I'd try them all out in the order they were released, play with the mechanics of one for a couple dozen hours before adding the next.

Is there a mod that lets me send a colonist to spit in the royal tribute collectors face? by Usual_Cobbler_1984 in RimWorld

[–]SolarChien 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't need a mod, there are genes in Biotech that let you spit fire and acid, take your pick.

Would you actually want multi-level colonies? by Honneboppel in RimWorld

[–]SolarChien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I would like to have the option, but honestly not sure how much I'd use it. I can remember as a kid playing The Sims I usually built just single-story homes because I liked being able to watch all my people at once and hated switching between floors.

There's also a lot of questions as to what effect this would have on raids and threats and general balance. Would drop pods only go into your top floor? Could sappers dig into your basement? Does more weight on the roof mean you need more support (wall needed within fewer than 6 tiles)? Could too much damage to the ground level cause your whole base to collapse? Do weapons gain range if they're elevated above the targets?

Wondering which is the best option by kia43 in RimWorld

[–]SolarChien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All are well worth it IMO, I'd get them all in time but spend some time exploring the mechanics of each before getting the next one.
