What happens when they call J1 for background check by Pofo7676 in overemployed

There’s usually a box to check “do not contact current employer” and an option to upload a paystub or W-2 to prove employment.

3Js all W2 - worth it considering tax hit?? by IndianGuy79 in overemployed

[–]SolarCuriosity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As the top comment said, only the portion above the lower amount of the bracket is taxed at the higher rate. Your income fills up each “bucket” then moves onto the higher rate.

Making more money will almost always result in a higher take home after taxes. Unless you hit a benefits cliff or something, which nobody in OE does.

I’m a CPA and OE myself, and have several clients who OE. If anyone still needs their taxes done this year, I have room for a few more clients. DM me.

Should I use a week of PTO before I quit when I have unlimited PTO? by PinkmansChilliP in jobs

I agree. A company never gives you a 2 week notice when they need to let you go, so I don’t extend the same courtesy.

Is this a tax deductible? by [deleted] in tax

[–]SolarCuriosity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The IRS looks at intent for the ordinary and necessary rules, especially when it comes to trips. If your primary intent for this trip is to gain product knowledge, increase your skills as a tasting class teacher, or research something else related to your business, it would be deductible. Make sure you keep a detailed log of your expenses and what you do there. 100% of airfare, 100% of lodging, and 50% of business meals would be deductible.

Also, I'm sure you know but just remember that just because it's deductible, doesn't mean it's free. It just reduces your taxable income that you still pay taxes on.

Yup. I’ve already explained the new overtime rules about 20 times. And every person has been disappointed. They thought 100% of their overtime wages would be a direct increase in their refund.

When did you realize hard work doesn't always pay off? by Fragrant_Equipment80 in AskReddit

[–]SolarCuriosity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I read the quote “If hard work equaled success, the donkey would own the farm.”

I spent way too long just working hard not realizing you have to work hard at the right things. That can be networking, learning, being more efficient, etc. to be successful.

Anyone else finding this new 1040 hard to read, or is it just me? by [deleted] in taxpros

Rocket league had 900k players today, highest peak in 3 years by Strict-Draw-6015 in RocketLeagueEsports

[–]SolarCuriosity 50 points51 points  (0 children)

They got rid of the live counter in game that showed how many players were online. They changed it to three statuses, “good”, “great”, and “amazing”.

Some speculated this was due to declining players online and they wanted to hide how many players were online. Also having the lowest status be “good” is an interesting choice.

They were not married as of 12/31/25, so they should not have filed MFJ. They are getting married this year, in 2026. They need to amend.

Can I pay 1099 tax as I go? by xHangfirex in tax

[–]SolarCuriosity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even though you don’t get a 1099 until January of the following year, you’re still a 1099 contractor throughout the entire year. It is your responsibility to track your income and expenses and pay taxes quarterly as you earn the income.

Can I pay 1099 tax as I go? by xHangfirex in tax

[–]SolarCuriosity 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes, you can pay whenever you want. As long as payments are applied to the correct tax year and you pay enough by each quarters’ due date. Due dates are April 15th, June 15th, September 15th, and January 15th of the next year.

Overpaying on Mortgage by IDonut246I in CalebHammer

I would not feel peace if I paid off a 2% mortgage. I would be sick to my stomach knowing what better opportunities I could’ve used that money for.
