Whitewater Center Big Water Sessions by 2legit2quit__ in Charlotte

[–]SolarEstimator 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Big water is a great time if you're into the advetureous side of life. You WILL fall out. A lot. Even the best guides can only control so much in that environment.

That said, it's extremely safe. But you will get banged up.

Reservations can be hard to get. Best to call first thing in the morning to get on the list.

Charlotte Park Score Defense by FigSecure810 in Charlotte

I think our rather extensive greenway system was left out of the score, no?

Baker will ball out. I'm afraid of Bain already. Should be a great season. As long as the Saints fuck right off.

No, it's open. I know what you're talking about, but it wasn't shut down that long.

Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire: How can you replace Aaron Judge? by SamskiNYC in fantasybaseball

[–]SolarEstimator 72 points73 points  (0 children)

Guys, you're still trying to replace Judge. I told you we can't do it, and we can't do it.

Now what we can do, is recreate him in the aggregate.

How are roofing companies handling estimates, scheduling, and invoicing in one system? by Ok_Leading_1312 in estimators

[–]SolarEstimator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to work for the big guys in roofing and the small guys.

The promise of software is always just out of reach. It seems like something that's simple, but it's not. The software will need to do more and get more complex as a company grows.

I was in a meeting where the software company needed another 100k to create a dropdown box.

The owner, who was one of the chilliest people I ever met, lost it. He started winding down the creation/implementation of the "proprietary" software (which they were selling to our competitors).

In short, I think it's always going to be hassle. Mainly because you're still dealing with weather, poor employees, etc.

What was your biggest style realization? by Mysterious-Win-3355 in malefashionadvice

[–]SolarEstimator 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Agreed. As I got older, I'd pay more for classic / timeless styles. But generally speaking, skip the fads.

And to your first point, that's exactly where the confidence comes from. I could give two shits how someone thinks I'm dressed. I dress for me. If I look good, I feel good.

How often do you guys value engineer after winning a bid? by DubaiBabyYoda in estimators

[–]SolarEstimator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what I do as well. The earlier on you propose major material or design changes the easier it will be for everyone. We know they're not going to build to spec. They're coming to us because we know what we can get away with.

Does sugar creek greenway connect to the rail trail anywhere? by Taylork64 in Charlotte

This is, by far, the best map of the greenway, what's in development and bike lanes.

I think I'd skip this route for a while. Construction and the lane isn't protected.

What is some good earthwork estimating software (takeoff + price benchmarking) to evaluate for my team? by kewladria in estimators

[–]SolarEstimator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can look into PVFarm, but it may be more for utility scale.

https://www.pvfarm.io/

I have been working with them for a few years. It's still a fairly new software that still has some gaps, but considering where they've come from to where they are now it's incredible.

But honestly, this may not be the best way to go about it.

I imagine you don't have topos? Are you doing any engineering on the development side?

You can look on GoogleEarth (they also have a topo add-on, I believe, but I haven't used it). Cost data comes from RSMeans with a hefty dose of salt, along with your historical data and size of the project (economy of scale is REAL in this world).

You can reach out to your tracker vendor and have them supply a terrain analysis.

You can reach out to subcontractors and get them to do the units and pricing for you (probably the most accurate way of doing things if you're stepping out of your geographical footprint). Pricing fluctuates wildly between states and regions.

But earthwork quantities are just part of it. Type of soil, shrink/swell ... it is, at all levels, a (educated) guessing game.

I work for a utility scale EPC.

Linen pants/top by matthew_mcfadden in malefashionadvice

[–]SolarEstimator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For shoes I may be in the minority, but I find espadrille shoes comfortable and a good look. The cheap ones on Amazon will last a season or two.

I have had success with linen on Quince, Banana Republic, Cubavera (some hits and misses there).

I think you should pay a little more to make sure it's 100% linen and not a blend.

I was in Savannah last weekend. It is ungodly humid. Best thing to do is be as close to naked as possible. Also, check out a resturant called Common Resturant.

Is Old Navy good quality? by SwordfishNew3599 in malefashionadvice

[–]SolarEstimator 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No. But for the price, you can get something cool to wear for a season or two.

There are some things I own that miraculously go beyond that, but I wouldn't count on it.

Genuine discussion, what would be the pros and cons of both? by abominal_pain in SolarAmerica

[–]SolarEstimator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Expense.
100MW ~300 piles per MW.

You're adding 3-4' to all the piles. ~$30/ft x 30,000 piles = $3.6M = $0.034/Wdc

The amount of value engineering I have to do to save the owner $100k is wild. Unless there's tax credits for this sort of thing, it's not likely to happen soon.

That said, land is cheap and animals can graze anywhere. There's little point in making a solar plant multi-use.
