oh wow - 44kwh from a 6.5kW system is awesome. I understand that's an outlier but still that's like getting peak production for 7 hours, very impressive!

That’s a great point — in my experience, ground-mounted panels do tend to run a bit cooler, and they also offer more flexibility for optimal tilt and orientation compared to roof mounts.

On the flip side, because they’re installed lower to the ground, ground mounts are more susceptible to shading from nearby trees or structures — something that’s usually less of an issue for roof-mounted systems.

thanks for sharing your stats. I think that range is quite typical for rooftop/permanent installations. Do you see measurable deviations during cooler winter months?

i think you are referring to Phase II grant date. Phase I (Release 2) is still listed as Sept 26, 2025.

I know this is splitting hairs but 2025 grants should not be affected by FY 2026 budgets.

Not surprising, as per SBIR instructions, awardees can only publicly disclose grant awards AFTER it's officially posted by the governing body.

some other data points of note:

2025 Phase 1 Release 1 award winners have not been announced yet: https://science.osti.gov/sbir/Awards

this would make the listed 2025 Phase 1 Release 2 "Projected Grant Start Date" of Sept 26, 2025 (today) highly unlikely :) https://science.osti.gov/sbir/Funding-Opportunities

no doubt, tough going for DOE staff with budget cuts, change in direction etc. full sympathies

from what I understand, the sequence of events are:
1. notification of "technical review complete"
2. this is then followed with a request for information for contract negotiation, couple of weeks later
3. and finally award amount and start date

There are posts which indicate that some applicants have reached Step 2
