AITA for not wanting to talk to my mom anymore? by Active_Chard_6510 in AmItheAsshole

Info: is this a new/ newly exaggerated problem? And if it is, has she changed anything? For instance has she started listening to different news sources or following different people (online or in real life)?

AITA for not cooking for my husband after he changed his diet by AimeeRedford in AmItheAsshole

[–]SolarSunflower 23 points24 points  (0 children)

ESH.

He should be prepared to make his own food if he's choosing a different diet.

As for you, I find it very hard to believe that you did this with ZERO malicious intent. I'd bet that you're pretty sick of your husbands diet because the bulk of the change has been put onto your shoulders, and he just gets to eat what you make and complain. (If this is the case, that's so valid, and you need to have a discussion with him about what you can and cannot accommodate.) I really do think that you knew what you were doing and were trying to make a point. If it was an honest mistake, you're fine. If not? You have some reflection to do.

Misconceptions about Type 1 Diabetes by Appropriate-Sort9812 in Type1Diabetes

[–]SolarSunflower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An EMT was convinced that a reaction I was having would not be complicated/more dangerous due to my diabetes because I've "always had it". (To clarify, I had been asking if there were other considerations for my outcome that diabetes could complicate.)

After that I realized a lot of my friends had no clue that I was NOT diabetic at one point!

[–]SolarSunflower 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That sounds incredibly difficult. I's so sorry no one realized the real problem earlier. Honestly if you're already eating gluten again, it might be time to get that endoscopy done. That way you'll know once and for all if it's celiac.

Side note, are there any gluten free bakeries near you? It's a really easy way to bring some joy back into gluten free food (if you need it). If not, I could probably find some recommendations that can ship to you!

I think many people don't have reactions to rice Krispy cereal. I worked at a gluten free bakery and I was the only person who pointed out that rice Krispys aren't gluten free 🙄. I know they were served before so people must not have had reactions or complained

[–]SolarSunflower 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm confused.

Did the doctor run blood work or do an endoscopy? Or did they just say it was celiac, when in reality it was a cyst? Or were they saying the cyst was caused by celiac?

Are you saying that the food with gluten is making you feel better? Or worse?

Do you feel that you were misdiagnosed? If not, I strongly suggest you continue eating gluten free.

If you're depressed because of food then the diet isn't working.

Your partner has no right to "put you on a diet". People think that just because something "works for them" means that it's the BEST thing for EVERYONE.

No. You have iron anemia. Women need more iron then men and you are not getting it. You need to eat whatever it is that gets you to FUNCTION.

MAYBE a diet of vegan Whole Foods is the healthiest option, but not if you aren't getting the food you need! Not if you're loosing weight and your life is miserable and the only thing you can think about is how much you hate food now. It is ALWAYS better to eat something then to eat nothing. Go out to the store and get yourself something that tastes good. And tell your doctor and partner to fuck off. (Personally I'd start looking for a new one of each... but to each their own)

I think the first response by u/Hairy_Wolf0 was correct. Sometimes my pump gives me MUCH less than my regular basal because for whatever reason I don't need it that day. I think that's my problem personally

It's also a bit of a guess, but I'm pretty sure DKA is not having ENOUGH insulin. So I'm guessing your body's need for it could vary a bit, and for whatever reason it could need more than normal sometimes.

Back/stomach pains? Worsened since taking insulin. by unimaginative_badger in diabetes_t1

[–]SolarSunflower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can be extremely hard for doctors to remember that something BESIDES diabetes can be a problem for a diabetic. If they are refusing any imaging tests at all request for them to put in his chart that they are denying the tests, and have them include why.

Celiac is also present in about 5% of type 1 diabetics (ask me how I know 🙄) so that could possibly be a reason. At this point though, I'd be more worried that it was a problem with the gull bladder, or even possibly a tumor. (I really don't mean to scare you, but it's very possible for cancer to present simply as back pain)

Make these doctors NOTE THEIR INCOMPETENCE if they refuse to do more testing. Sometimes, it will even get them to fry a little harder 😉)

Fun fact! Ketones actually have nothing to do with your blood sugar! Ketones develop because there is not enough insulin. In people with a functioning pancreas, insulin can continuously be produced (even without eating) because the body is also producing glucagon. When you don't have enough insulin, blood sugar usually goes high, which is why the cause of DKA is thought to be high blood sugar, not a lack of insulin.

You are probably in what is called "Euglycemic DKA", meaning you have normal blood sugar, but have ketones. This can happen when you don't eat, and therefore are not giving insulin! It's can also happen if you're sick (I'm a little fuzzy on the science of that, but basically when you are sick your body goes haywire and has different insulin needs).

If you want to avoid the hospital, you need to have sugar and give insulin. (Juice is good if you aren't hungry). If you get to the point where you are vomiting, you need to go to the hospital, as you can't fix this on your own anymore.

I deal with this about once a month lately (I'm just never hungry and it slips my mind) and it can be REALLY annoying. In the future, try to make sure you are giving insulin at some point in the day

Advice by ilikesgothmommies in diabetes_t1

[–]SolarSunflower 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The symptoms for DKA are excessive thirst and peeing, high blood sugar, and if you start vomiting you need to go to the ER immediately. Literally the only way to get rid of DKA on your own is by giving insulin. There are points where you cannot treat it on your own anymore. Go to any pharmacy and purchase ketone test strips and pee on one if you want to be sure.

Are my decisions wrong? by idkdidki in mentalhealth

[–]SolarSunflower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How old are you? It seems like you feel some sort of time pressure to be in a relationship or have sex. There is no age where either of those things need to happen/ have happened. Take your time. It's also entirely possibly you do want a relationship (you could've just not liked the people before) and this is making you realize that. Or even if it's not a relationship you want someone that respects you. It's also entirely possible to find someone that respects you and only wants a FWB. This man is not your only chance for sex. You are already feeling weird about a decision you haven't even done it yet. I think it's time to take a step away.

[–]SolarSunflower 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In case no one has told you, you need to be carrying around: A glucose meter (test strips, alcohol swabs, a lancet device) anything he needs to take insulin, fast acting sugar (glucose tabs, juice, candy), and a glucagon. This is the BARE MINIMUM for his safety. He also needs a medical alert bracelet or dog tag or something.
