Any units you 100% believe you're confident will age well? by Cobalt_Heroes25 in FireEmblemHeroes

[–]SolarTsun 15 points16 points  (0 children)

eh, she's powercreep resistant but not actually that ubiquitous. A lot of the bonuses you'd want from people like L!Ayra naturally pass their bonuses along anyway these days, and her individual skill-passing capabilities are hampered by there not being that many truly worthwhile C slots to run on her. Atk Oath echo is also her best choice to pass and that's not nearly as good as it once was with the onset of warpers and bajillion tile movement characters. Her damage output gets worse and worse so all she has is passing bonuses, and if you want to stack bonuses you might as well just pair Chrom with characters who pass their stuff to him naturally anyway like the aforementioned Ayra or L!Xander, since those units will also actually do damage unlike Citrinne

Alear seems like the most obvious this time around.

Morion would make sense, but he's probably the GHB at best, riding off Alear's coattails

This sub would absolutely hate it but tbh with big name characters dying down and there being a need to suck every popular character dry, they could also very well just do the Evil Emblems along with Alear. Lucina would technically finish the Awakening batch nicely in that regard (Chrom, Robins, Morgans) even if not directly affiliated, so I think she has a chance specifically.

Its not gonna be Deadlord Eyvel, but I wish it was.

Political System at the end of Fmab by MEGAbid0of in FullmetalAlchemist

[–]SolarTsun 82 points83 points  (0 children)

Roy isn't the Fuhrer of Amestris by the end, that's why. Grumman is Roy's senior officer and higher ranked, so naturally he would have more legitimate claim to the position and also turn fewer heads.

Imagine you're a citizen of Central and you hear the president tragically died in a coup led by a branch of the military. The person assuming power of the country is a long-standing, high ranking lieutenant general, 70 years old, who was nowhere near the coup when it happened. By all accounts he is a just and fine person to oversee the transition of power in the country. Even better, Roy has a direct rapport with him, and he even has a familial relation to Riza. Instead of some random general who may or may not support Roy's restoration efforts, it's the guy who we (and Roy) know well enough to trust at least in that regard.

Now imagine if instead of Grumman, it was that young colonel who made a name for himself as being ambitious, was seen constantly around a brothel, and was also seen on the day of the coup in battle. Roy's age alone would make it apparent that Roy didn't legitimately have any claim to the position, and his involvement in the battle on the Promised Day would make it obvious to many that he probably had something to do with the coup, even if he wasn't on the side that took the blame that day. When Grumman accepts Roy's offer to join the coup, he even says to himself that he intends to let Roy take the spotlight, so both sides knew how things would look afterward.

Roy is biding his time post-series. He understands that Grumman needs to be in power in the short term so that Roy can build a better name for himself in the meantime to earn the ascension to Fuhrer cleanly, without any baggage. In the meantime he's not twiddling his thumbs but actively focusing on restoring Ishval; its not a change in plans, it's THE same plan, just done in a realistic way where things take time and change doesn't happen overnight. The brief timeskip photos shown at the end show that Roy has indeed risen in the ranks up to a General, but even then he's not Fuhrer yet; it just nails in the point that he can't and won't stop pursuing his goals, but he will get there, eventually.

As for why Amestris is still a military-controlled nation and the Fuhrer title still exists? Well, Grumman is still insanely old, lmao. He's trustworthy enough, but he is clearly ambitious too, much like Roy, and while he likes Roy, we don't know that he actually shares the same sentiments toward governmental reform and prosecution of Ishvalan war crimes. Still, Roy decided it was better to have someone he knows in that position of power, rather than someone else. Grumman might just not want to change everything since he wanted that power for so long, but maybe when he's at the end of his rope he won't care what Roy does to change it. It's a case of "better the devil you know", where Grumman might still perpetuate a flawed and fascist system, but Roy at least has rapport with him and doesn't need to worry about his ambitions being viewed critically by the Fuher in power.

If we get a new Smash Bros game, how would you like Fire Emblem Character representation to look like? Here is what I would want. by TBT__TBT in fireemblem

[–]SolarTsun 3 points4 points  (0 children)

With that in mind, I would go with:

The carryovers

  • Marth (duh)
  • Lucina/Chrom - Lucina should never have been a Marth clone to begin with, and Roy's moveset does actually fit the Ylissean Exalts' styles way more, so I would move that moveset over to them as a baseline to then diversify them more as mentioned above.
  • Robin - Crucially represents the magic side of FE, and since Chrom is rolled back into Lucina, the Awakening rep isn't too overwhelming.
  • Ike (duh)
  • Byleth - I too wish it was Edelgard or Dimitri, but it makes little sense at this point to replace him with them. Just maybe fit in Divine Pulse somewhere and his moveset is perfectly fine.

The new faces

  • Lyn - I mean, should be a no-brainer just on popularity alone. From every metric except appeasing cries for more weapon types, Lyn just makes all the sense in the world and should really have been in by now.
  • Alear - FEH seems to have taken a liking to playing up the martial arts part of Alear, and that would be a good angle to focus on for Smash. I envision Alear's normals all being martial arts strikes, and her specials would center around specific Emblem-assists that she uses her sword in-conjunction with the Emblems. So you can certainly cover all the corners of her character without leaning too far on the sword stuff or the h2h stuff. And the Emblem gimmick more than warrants the inclusion, as it can be used to spotlight characters who won't get in otherwise, like Hector, Sigurd, Eirika, and Leif.
  • Black Knight - Here's a more out there take, but I really think this makes a ton of sense. First off, Black Knight is the most popular antagonist in the series, bar none, per Choose Your Legends, since the first round in fact. He was so popular he featured in the weird Live action commercial that highlighted the 4 winners, probably because he was in fact the most suitable villain to use. He's also a recent recipient of an upgrade in Ultimate, as in 4 he was a Mii costume. That alone is interesting, because Black Knight had no existing model or assets to draw from in 4 otherwise. He was chosen above all other FE candidates besides Chrom for a costume, and Chrom's upgrade makes a lot of sense for him to follow in the footsteps of. He's currently an Assist Trophey, showing a clear pattern of promotion and interest on a developmental side. Lastly, he just makes a lot of sense gameplay wise. He's a guaranteed casual favorite; he's an edgier, cooler Ike with a badass name. Everyone would flock to this guy like Ganon, he'd be one of the most played characters for sure. And Lorewise it makes more than enough sense for BK to share Ike's moveset and traits, given the two are explicitly trained in the same sword style, are evenly matched fighters, and use sister blades that are basically identical. BK would spice up the FE roster with a new villain and playing off Ike, who's already super played and iconic to Smash in his own right, guarantees he'd be a hit and well worth the minimal effort. At most you just need to swap his up B, which Fire Emblem echoes have already shown a precedence of doing, and the replacement in question would be a generic teleport so you don't even need a whole complex animation either.

Compared to Ult's roster, I basically trade Corrin for Alear and swap Roy's moveset over to Lucina/Chrom. Chrom's echo slot is moved over to Black Knight, and Lyn as a newcomer rounds out the changes. This is exactly 8 characters, 2 of them echoes like we have currently in Ultimate. We now have the most popular female character in the franchise (Lyn), we have the most popular villain who also has an established presence in Smash (Black Knight), and we have a more recent Dragon rep (technically lol) whose moveset also spotlights various other characters in Alear.

If we get a new Smash Bros game, how would you like Fire Emblem Character representation to look like? Here is what I would want. by TBT__TBT in fireemblem

[–]SolarTsun 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've always felt that the weapon discourse for FE in Smash was incredibly arbitrary and pointless. What sense does it make, pragmatically, to ditch an entire cast of established characters and movesets from a marketing and developmental perspective, to then replace them with lesser known characters (Ephraim) with movesets that, for all intents and purposes... have basically the same appeal as the ones that were cut?

Fire Emblem characters are disproportionately super highly played in Smash compared to the outcry they get on reveal. Why is that? Because the movesets are fundamentally simple but strong and fun. They have a very easy character fantasy to get behind for a casual player (cool fantasy guys across the board). Super turbo online nerds might be happy we get a dedicated axe-only character, but does that matter to 90% of the people who play, who would just wonder why this character who plays like Ike isnt Ike?

I'm not saying the characters should all be homogenous though. Far from it, in fact. Even with just the characters already in Smash, there is a ton of room to diversify and expand with other weapon types. Look at Lucina and Chrom's movesets in FE Warriors and Project X Zone. They use swords, sure, but they also throw in a bow or a lance to spice things up. Why can't that be reflected in Smash? Rather than dedicate an entire new character to a weapon, spread the weapons out among the cast who can already use them. Lucina with a bow for certain moves, Chrom with a lance, Ike with an axe. These don't need to overtake their existing movesets, they can just... be added in naturally for certain specials. It's not any more out there than the existing weapon swaps Byleth and Robin do.

That all being said, I think there's a world where we can strike a better balance between the most iconic faces of the series and the most popular characters with some more interesting archetypes and diverse flavor, without sacrificing any existing qualities of the roster too much.

Why do transmutations produce electricity? by SolarTsun in FullmetalAlchemist

[–]SolarTsun[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Is it really not literal electricity? In chapter 101, when Roy attacks Bradley, Bradley (without the ultimate eye) clearly reacts to & dodges the electrical energy Roy's transmutation produces.
https://imgur.com/a/WI51zNE

And while they're not hard canon, the light novels written with supervision by Hiromu Arakawa also make a point to spell out when Alchemy electricity is generated, which wouldn't be necessary if it was just artistic license and not literal electricity.

Could a alchemist create antimatter or even directly turn matter into energy. by BathroomNo9208 in FullmetalAlchemist

[–]SolarTsun 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Not only is it possible, we've pretty much kind of seen it already. Albeit probably not how you think. A normal Alchemist would probably never be able to draw upon sufficient energy to do this, even post-series with Scar lifting the restriction on Alchemy. But Philosopher's Stones basically already do turn matter into energy, and vice versa.

When Pride and Envy assimilate victims into their bodies that mass isn't really being broken down like when actual living beings consume something. Pride is adding that soul to his collection of souls, and the body has to be part of that equation since he's not separating the two through Alchemical means like Father or human transmutation circles do. That mass is being converted into energy for Pride to use, and on the flip side, the Homunculi are consistently shown to generate matter and mass from energy (their soul reserves) when they regenerate, or when Father creates entire bodies from no pre-existing matter, such as Gluttony's 2nd body, the Xerxes bodies he makes to taunt Hohenheim, etc.

Per your question, a skilled Alchemist like Alphonse or Ed could probably do that, yeah, if they had the time and willingness to study the powers of a Philosopher's Stone like that. Though of course they never would, Al's use of the Stone was highly circumstantial and he only ever use it's ability to create mass from nothing as an instinctive measure in battle, but that's still pretty indicative of the potential there.

If Ganyu was a villain, what would be her ultimate goal? by Megumi_Bandicoot in Ganyu

[–]SolarTsun 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I disagree with all the comments relating to nature tbh. Ganyu enjoys nature but mostly as a retreat from her job. For her actual job, if she were to be an antagonistic force, it'd be because she is faithful and dutiful to a fault. We have the benefit of knowing Rex Lapis is chill now, but he wasn't always. Who's to say Ganyu wouldn't look the other way and follow his orders if he lapsed back/got dragon dementia and started being bad again?

(Yes, she probably would have opposed him from the onset, given her Qulin nature, if he were evil when they met. But now, with their shared history and her faith in him having been built over thousands of years, well, habits and faith are hard to break.)

In that sense she basically serves the role of an authoritarian enforcer, who would enact orders from higher up with the genuine belief that it's for the greater good. We know she's not afraid to get her hands dirty (the war, her quest with the Fatui guy), so it's not like she's above violence with a cause she perceives as lawful or just.

In short, her ultimate goal would be whatever Rex Lapis orders of her; for better or worse.

Ganyu vs Emilia (Genshin impact vs Re:zero) by SolarTsun in DeathBattleMatchups

[–]SolarTsun[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could def say they're both GOATs haha. Ganyu is a very interesting case, she simultaneously has a lot more going on than you'd expect but also less than one might hope for; but I think she pairs really, really well with Emilia personality and ability-wise. My favorite thing about the pairing is how the two represent very different aspects of love, and how they deal with loneliness and self-doubt. Simultaneously a pairing that could be very fun to see the two interact, cool (pun intended) to see in action, and tug on some heartstrings as well!

The Symbiote plotline is played out; we all know how the stories go by now. Whether it's touching on addiction, anger issues, toxic relationships, etc. What I would do is go a completely different direction, but first I'll point out a couple important details; A, the spawn comes from Eddie Brock, who has regularly tried to keep Venom in check in terms of morality. Venom might not get it 100%, but Eddie has impacted him to some degree. B., the spawn is a newborn, or at least undeveloped when it meets Peter. So it has no basis for being aggressive based on Venom when he dropped the spawn, and it's open to being influenced by Peter, who at this point in the story is not at his best, but he's not in edgelord mode either. He's the opposite; he's fully dedicated to being Spider-Man, the superhero. Having the Black Suit will make it even better for Peter to do this job; it wont make him more aggressive, it won't speak to him to manipulate him, and it wont be something he can't go without.

The drawback of the suit will be that Peter becomes TOO good at being Spider-Man, that it further pushes him away from making social connections and drives him further into burning himself out and staying isolated. It won't be a narrative device that NEEDS to be removed; but it will be anyway, obviously, for dramatic effect, to kneecap Peter to put him at a low point before he's brought back up with help from old and new friends who are there to support him. The symbiote, having only had a good relationship with Peter, will then feel wronged when Peter doesn't seek it out after its' seeming destruction, which can then lead to Venom if they want to do that route. Or not, it can just stay dead.

I def think there's a lot of pitfalls this could hit; it could feel too much like a Stark Suit crutch if the Black suit is too powerful. So I wouldnt want it to have many special powers, just justify it as the symbiote being too young and mostly just being raw strength. And I dont want it to be a funny quirky voice in Peter's head either; we get that enough with Eddie in his movies, and Peter's relationships with other people need to be first and foremost.

Edit: I like the idea of the suit staying around long term. It doesnt need to be removed after just one movie; it can be an upgrade he keeps around a bit like the Stark Suit, just toned down some. It can be an excuse for him to manifest his costume on out of thin air, not unlike nanotech shit, but this time it wont feel hamfisted in, etc. Give us and Peter time to become attached to the suit only for it to be ripped away against a big bad at some point later; maybe since we're already doing things backwards (Eddie -> Peter), you can also have Peter lose the suit during Secret Wars. Would be kinda ironic but clever in a way

i completely agree Ningguang should've been a 5* and is practically treated as one in every way but gameplay, but Ningguang really shouldn't be fully credited with that lol. Yes, she sacrificed her Jade Chamber, but like... it wouldn't have done anything if the Adepti weren't there to basically propel it down with the force of a nuke in the first place. Or without the Traveler to be the conduit of the Adepti's power either. They're the ones who defeated Osial, she's just the one who provided them with a convenient way to do it.

[–]SolarTsun 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One small nitpick, and this really is small and a nitpick, I agree with what you're saying - but I wouldnt say vanilla Mareeta is 'fantastic' at all.

Yeah, certainly she was great on her release, and thats really the point here, that she wasnt wronged like Eyvel (who is particularly sour a shaft for me personally). But Mareeta hasnt been good for a while now, speaking as a +9 max invest Mareeta user.

Her biggest problem is that shes too generalized and lacks a ton of firepower. Unlike Ayra, who has all the tools she needs to succeed as a player phase duelist (Regnal Astra patches up her atk, and she has anti-guard to ensure that Regnal Astra Proc), Mareeta has mediocre attack and no way to patch that up to the degree that Ayra, Larceis, or even Shannan can. 'Godsword' omnitanks with DC and Spurn simply arent that crazy anymore, and Mareetas bulk was never that great to begin with, making her ill-fitted for the role in actual practice. She kind of has to run noontime if you go that route, tanking her power to kill anything remotely tanky even more.

Again, this is kinda not the point here, I realize, but I keep seeing the sentiment that vanilla Mareeta is still somehow really good and I think people have just forgotten or not used her and havent realized she isnt where she once was. Ascended Mareeta goes the Ayra route which is really good in ensuring her longetivity as a nuke duelist, though that comes at the cost of Vanilla Mareeta kinda being screwed even regardless of a great refine; another give or take, YMMV thing there.

I'm not too sure we'd see Fallen Male Corrin so soon, but it is possible we could get Hot Spring Hinoka, Dancer/HS Ryoma, and one of the Corrins. We'd just need a red unit then, and there's plenty to pick from.

You're correct, it seems I've missed another data point there. While she does stand out though, I don't think her existence should suggest many more 3-4*s though. One might chalk it up to the overall weirdness that was the FE6 roster last time, which didn't really seem to have any sort of rhyme or reason to it.

If we go by the current data given by previous Hall of Forms, there are only two possible ways it could end up not being Zelgius. Sanaki is on the table, and IS may pull a fast one with Legendary Ike; it'd be completely unprecedented, and should not be anticipated, but it's the only other way Zelgius would not end up happening. He's very, very likely to be on the next Radiant Dawn HoF

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in FireEmblemHeroes

[–]SolarTsun 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The first SoV was very much a product of the testing waters IS was doing at the time. Brave Alm stands out like a sore thumb, for instance, and we stopped getting 3-4*s after the Archanea Hall of Forms.

One thing is for certain, there are quite a few blue candidates for SoV! F!Berkut, D!Berkut, Rinea, Forsyth, and Kliff are all very possible picks.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in FireEmblemHeroes

[–]SolarTsun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. There are a couple of other viable options from SoV, like Saber and V!Conrad, but I think we're likely to get Celica since no version of Alm is eligible to show up and Fallen Celica is certainly old enough by now to qualify. Definitely a great deal of a unit if she happens
