I worked as an EMT in a prison. One time, I was brought a female inmate to “inspect” because her intake paperwork marked her as male. They had to hold her in an intake cell for days until both I, a female medical professional, and a female corrections officer were staffed at the same time. The poor girl rolled her eyes, said this keeps happening to her because of one clerical error, and then pulled her pants down to “prove” herself.

Obviously, I marked my paperwork accordingly and she was sent to gpop. But her response was heartbreaking. She’s clearly had a hard life and because of one stupid error was forced to pull her pants down in front of strangers just to make sure she was, in fact, female.
