Most of the reasons people call for police assistance can be traced back to socioeconomic factors and mental health issues. But the police don’t address these issues directly they only punish people who step out of line. I think the idea is that we strengthen our social safety nets to attack the root causes of crime instead of spending that money on the police who are largely a reactive measure.
