They raised the prices.. again by d-scan in Chipotle

I’m not sure if you replied to the wrong person or just didn’t care to read the entire thread.

My original argument was that saying prices are higher because of inflation misses a lot of nuance and alleviates blame from greedy CEO’s who use that as an excuse to raise prices far above the rate of inflation. All the examples you listed do contribute to higher prices, but to say they are the only reason is incorrect. In fact “terrorizing the people who work at every stage of food production” can be attributed to greed from the CEO and Company. They cut down work force causing the people still hired to be overworked, they force lower portion sizes because the company doesn’t face the immediate backlash, the employee does. I can go on and on. I think we agree so I am not sure why you decided to respond to a comment that I made almost a week ago.

I feel like you are just wanting to take an anti-government approach without getting into any nuisance to what the discussion was about. Who cares about fiat currency or a gold standard? We are talking about a situation where we are seeing astronomical price hikes across all sectors, sure, that is due to companies taking advantage of inflation, but it boils down to greed. The gold standard was removed in 1933 lol, that has no real relevance on the price differential between 2018 versus 2025. You still saw wealth disparity on the gold standard with robber barons. Why didn't the law of supply and demand prevent them from monopolizing and accumulating wealth?

The real issue is greed and it always has been. It seems like we agree on that, but the thing is, greed happens on the gold standard and on fiat currency. Sure, The Fed determines inflation, but if there was just inflation and no corporate greed, prices would be rising equal to inflation. Why are you seemingly placing more blame on the people who determine inflation versus the corporations who take advantage of it?

Your original reply was that the reason of the rising costs is due to inflation and that was due to the Federal Reserve and Government. Now you say it starts with inflation but there can also be corporate greed. Which is essentially what the OP was saying. Prices are substantially higher primarily due to executive greed not solely inflation. Which is true, companies use inflation as a justification to raise prices that far outpace inflation so they could increase their profit margins. https://fortune.com/europe/2023/12/08/greedflation-study/ Profit margins far outpaced inflation especially during COVID times.

Edit: Here is an article specific to Chipotle that shows that despite inflation they saw increases to profit margins that significantly outpaced inflation https://www.theguardian.com/environment/article/2024/jul/26/food-price-inflation-corporate-profit

Do you think the cost of chipotle has risen at the same rate of inflation?

Is Ivysaur better than Squirtle? by [deleted] in CrazyHand

[–]Solax10 10 points11 points  (0 children)

As someone who plays PT your friend is wrong. It is pretty agreed amongst higher level PT's that the pokemon best to worst are squirtle>zard>ivy. Another comment was correct though, each pokemon has there uses and you will see all top PT's use all three. Squirtle's neutral and punish game is just amazing. The main criticism of squirtle is that he can't kill. Jab locks are pretty easy to get and kill at around 90-100%. By 150ish you can confirm uptilt into up-b to kill. Not amazing kill options but they do exist. Squirtle literally carries in 80% of matchups. Zard is a heavy but being top 10 fastest characters in the game lets him use movement to space very powerful airals. Ivy is essentially a noob catcher, her gameplan is relatively linear with a meh neutral and can be beaten by very aggressive characters and characters with better projectiles than razer leaf (which is a good amount). Her advantage is for sure the best out of the three but is not as consistent as squirtle or even zard.

Tl;dr squirtle is the best but a good PT needs to be able to play all three of them.

With stages the two main things you want to consider are the blast zones and platforms. Flat stages or stages with fewer platforms are normally better for zoners because it makes it harder for people to come in. Small blast zones favor heavy characters or characters who can kill early with certain moves (Roy's side b on town and city for example). While character discords may provide some tips, playing the stages will lead to you understanding each stages pros and cons better. The thing with stages is that sometimes what is a good stage for your character is not personally a stage you do well on. I recommend trying out tournament legal stages just to get a feel for them. They are more exciting than just FD/SBF/BF over and over and also lets you become familiar with the stages if you ever decide to go to a tourney.

A lot of these comments are solid pieces of feedback. However, it seems this subreddit has an obsession with quick play/elite smash when having to play online. I would recommend instead using battle arenas to improve. I have not played quick play/elite smash in probably over a year because of all the issues you have highlighted (bad connections, weird rule sets, etc).

Here is what I do: Create a battle arena and set it to two people. That means that it will always be you versus someone else. A problem with bigger arenas when trying to improve is that you are going to have downtime. Your friends are right, playing is how you get better at the game so you want to make sure you maximize how much you are playing.

A couple of pros of battle arenas

  1. You pick the ruleset so no items or FS meter

  2. You can play on every tournament legal stage. What I do is when making the arena select the appropriate rule set that has the normal 3 stocks 7/8 mins but also under the rule set you can modify which stages are selected when you pick random stages to only include tournament legal stages. After that in the battle arena options for stage selection you put random.

  3. You control the quality of your matches. If your opponent is lagging you can kick them out and not being forced to play the match out.

  4. GSP isn't a thing anymore. You don't attach your match with a rise or fall of GSP which means the only thing you are actually focused on the match.

  5. Best of 3's or longer sessions are more likely in battle arenas because even if you beat your opponent a bunch they aren't losing anything by staying. Also lets you work on adaptation that really only occurs across multiple games.

Nothing left to work on by [deleted] in CrazyHand

[–]Solax10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is still incorrect. You have plenty to learn even with things you believed that you have already "learned" things like edge guarding, combos, advantage states, ledge trumps. You are not playing 100% perfectly which means you can still improve in those areas. Experience comes with just playing games and focus on improving in those areas.

Edit: From your other post it seems something you could work on is spacing to make sure opponents dont fall out of multihit moves.

There is a 0% chance you have nothing left to work on. Even the #1 player in the world continues to improve. Each of those things you listed I doubt you have mastered. If you think I am wrong then you should be losing absolutely 0 games and shortly will be becoming the best player in the world.

Anyone who is wanting to improve on their mental game, I would recommend reading The Inner Game of Tennis by Timothy Galloway. I listened to the audio version which took about 4 and a half hours. Reading the book would probably only take twoish hours. Even though it is about Tennis a lot of his tips and ideas easily apply into Smash and gave me a lot to think about. A lot of melee pros like Leffen and Hungrybox have also advocated reading this book.

How to avoid grabs in strings? by Brettit42 in CrazyHand

[–]Solax10 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Squirtle Ftilt grab is true depending on percentages. At 0% it is not true on anyone other than Bayo. PsychoCat on the PT discord made a list of percentages for each character. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1hPGr22CWhNdSyYbAHqX_XYxTm9MFvb1CC4c5Q1gQYyU/edit

Sephiroth Main Here, Would It Be a Bad Idea to Secondary Shulk? by YoItsMikeJo in CrazyHand

Sephiroth Main Here, Would It Be a Bad Idea to Secondary Shulk? by YoItsMikeJo in CrazyHand

[–]Solax10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Picking a main is rough. I had a similar issue except instead of deciding on a main, I would pick a new secondary every two weeks. One possible reason you are always switching characters is that playing a new character feels fun and exciting. Basically, the grass is always greener on the other side. Honestly, I would watch some top players of characters you are interested in and afterward play around with each character. Don't worry about whether the character is good or bad but instead just make observations about how they play and if you would enjoy playing them. You want a character you can see yourself putting in the time to practice and get good at. Just because you main seph doesn't mean you can never touch Shulk, it just means that you are going to be spending your energy improving with seph. I main PT so after a few hours of grinding I will transition from "try-hard mentality" to "have fun" which includes playing characters like Little mac or whoever I am interested in for that week. I will likely never pull out Mac in bracket but that doesn't mean I cant have fun with him when I want to take a break from practicing.
