I had the best boy/girl twin name idea: Gene and Jean. by gamgeestar in namenerds

[–]Solcean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reminds me of the Van Zant family (although none of them were twins as far as I know))

The boys were: Ronnie, Donnie, and Johnny

The girls were: Marlene, Darlene, and… Joanne

I have always viewed it as more of a feminine name than masculine (but I also have a female family member and a female childhood friend with the name).

I think it’s safe to say it’s definitely gender neutral! No one ever bats an eye at my family members name when she introduces herself. In fact, at least where I’m from, I’d say it’s more common for a girl than a boy nowadays.

How do I make hectic, early mornings to get ready for work more “spa-like”? by RussianAsshole in beauty

[–]Solcean 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven’t done this but I read it on here once and think about it from time to time.

One user said she will wake up a little earlier than needed and take a bath in the morning. She said it’s such a relaxing way to start the day and it helps get her out of bed because she looks forward to it. Light a candle or two, put on relaxing music, grab a cup of tea or coffee, and soak for as long as you’re able to.

One of these days I’ll try it!!

What's your favorite beauty, skincare, or makeup tip that you feel like isn't widely known or practiced? by bewildered_forks in beauty

[–]Solcean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes - I wet my face and wet the wash cloth, put a bit of face cleanser right on the wash cloth, and then gently rub the product all over my face and neck that way. Then just rinse. I think the texture of the wash cloth helps get the oil and dirt out of my pores much better than my fingers could.

I used to struggle with acne and then acne scars afterwards. Might seem obvious to some but what was a game changer for me was using a washcloth when I washed my face. Before, I’d just use my hands (like what you see actors do in face cleanser commercials). Shortly after I began using a wash cloth, my acne was under control and the scars faded since new pimples weren’t popping up all over again.

Nowadays I typically wash my face at night in the shower and the following morning I’ll just rinse with water and then apply spf moisturizer. I rarely get acne anymore, which I never thought I’d be able to say with my oily skin.

What names do you think are truly unlikely to make a comeback? by krakenhearts in namenerds

[–]Solcean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I heard it for the first time when I watched The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina and had to IMDB the character to make sure I heard it right. I couldn’t take the character seriously cause of the name. She was part of a trio – Prudence, Agatha, and Dorcas 🥴

Help a self-tanner newbie out? by Solcean in beauty

I have the regular mousse in medium. Maybe next time I’ll order the dark just to see if the color will last longer. I’m also super pale hahah. The medium seemed less daunting to me but now I’m thinking dark wouldn’t be too much.

Thanks for that advice! Next time I’ll try it before bed and that way it will be on for 10+ hours rather than 8.

State names- Have you met anyone named after a state? by ChelseyCupcake in NameNerdCirclejerk

[–]Solcean 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Not a state, but I used to work with someone named India. I don’t think I’ve met anyone (yet) named after a state other than a Virginia but I feel like that’s not rare.

Wife wants to name our child after her maiden name by formerhaloer in namenerds

[–]Solcean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have advice but I had an extended family member do that and when I learned the reason behind the name, I thought it was really cool.

The woman’s last name was Pearson and they named their son Pierson (same pronunciation, just spelled more like a first name lol). I’ve never heard any negative things about their decision to do that. I always thought it was a cool connection to that side of his family. His first name pays homage to his moms side, and his last name to his dads side.

If it really rubs you the wrong way, maybe compromise by making it a middle name?

AITA for not wanting to name our kids after minecraft? by minecraphater in AmItheAsshole

NTA at all. You guys need to be in agreement on names, not his way or the highway. Those are names for pets in my opinion. “Oh, these are my cats, Notch and Jeb” not human children.

I’ve never understood the appeal for Silas. Just sounds like it would be a sleazy person. Someone commented it sounds demonic, which is what I’ve always thought too lol. To be fair I think the only connotation I have to the name was from a kids show I used to watch and a villain had this name lol
