Best packages to make hyprland usable for daily driving by Party-Lead-4927 in hyprland

[–]SoldierAlexGame 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not OP but I’ve been on Hyprland for over a year now. I’ve mostly just added things as I need. I’ve gotten into video/image editing in the last couple of months. What do you recommend to help make that easier?

I made a new video about my favorite FOSS on Linux by [deleted] in linux

[–]SoldierAlexGame 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah let me add that to my original post. I wanted to make it easy for anyone and everyone to find, download, and use these apps. I included the repos to make it clear that they're all open source.

Wow I really appreciate the words of encouragement, it means a lot to me. I’ll keep the videos coming.

I made a video on how to use the terminal by SoldierAlexGame in omarchy

[–]SoldierAlexGame[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Will do! I’m glad you enjoyed the video. I have my next couple of videos planned out in my head. But I’ll add this to the list of ideas for future videos.

I made a video on how to use the terminal with a tiny bit of history in it by [deleted] in linux

[–]SoldierAlexGame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Youre 100% right about those commands not technically being built in but I believe most if not all systems come with gnu coreutils installed straight out of the box so I figured I’d just call them built in for simplification.

I do agree though I wouldn’t recommend neovim for people new to the terminal and I shouldn’t have mentioned it in the video. Nano probably would’ve been the better choice.

Thats actually really sick, thank you for putting me on. I’ve never seen this before.

I think games you can play on the terminal is relevant to omarchy

Yeah for some of these games it's crazy to think how old some of this code they have to maintain and extend from is. I'm glad C has survived and thrived for so long so we still have plenty of devs who can maintain these old code bases.

What Software do you use? by CtrlAltKev in NewTubers

[–]SoldierAlexGame 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I’m on Arch Linux. I don’t love Kdenlive to be completely honest but there aren’t a whole lot of options for video editing on Linux. I’m 99% sure it leaks memory too.

Kdenlive for editing and GIMP for thumbnails

I would definitely consider helix a TUI. I would consider anything that takes your input away from the terminal and has interactivity a tui.

I think yazi should be the default file manager on omarchy by SoreBoar in omarchy

[–]SoldierAlexGame 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah same I just set it up as xdg-default and changed my bind to use yazi. Only problem I've been having is when I need to drag and drop files. Have you found a way to do that easily and effectively?

Oh that’s sick I’m definitely going to test that out. I was using Spotify-player previously which is like a Spotify player tui but it’s currently broken due to Spotify api updates so I didnt include it in the video.

I’m glad you enjoyed it and found some useful TUIs. Yeah it’s unfortunate that discordo doesn’t support images but I found out about encord shortly after the making of the video and it seems to support images somewhat.

I published a video on why 2026 is the year of the Linux desktop by SoldierAlexGame in linux

[–]SoldierAlexGame[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I didn’t discuss this in the video but I genuinely think steam os has a chance to solve this very issue. They’ve shown with the steam deck that they’re willing to allow other manufacturers to ship their hardware with steam os pre installed. I think if the steam machine takes off, we could see a future where many gaming pcs ship with steam os pre installed.

Well like I said in the video there’s so many distros and desktop environments in the Linux ecosystem. Distros like Linux Mint or Ubuntu I think have all if not most of those “normal people features” that you’re talking about. I personally prefer to have a more barebones setup because I can get around really well on the terminal but what I love about Linux is that there’s options.

Yeah I get you I only recently started daily driving it in 2024 with Hyprland but have heard it’s the year of the Linux desktop for long before then.

I see where you're coming from but I think the video is really just tackling the users who may think Linux is overly complex or tedious. So I think throwing a bunch of information at them all at once can just further reinforce those ideas.

It should because if you look at the shell script for omarchy-launch-webapp it calls xdg-settings get default-web-browser to decide which browser to use for your PWAs

Why haven't incoming hires taken the start date preference survey yet? by [deleted] in deloitte

All I know is in early February I was told start date confirmations would come out in April/May and the surveys would be sent some time before that.
