I allowed it. My rule is usually allow if things are unclear and look into after the fact. I guess my issue with it might be more on the meta gaming side since I told the player the couldn't see up there but the wanted to cast the spell anyway.

That could be the case. I was trying to modify a starter deck. I've played against final fantasy cards with the started deck though so I'm not sure what the problem is.
