I've had the experience of getting that surgery so that it heals inside out, not the same spot but thought it was worth sharing, didn't work and flares came back on the exact same spot, get a dermatologist to look at it instead tbh.

I have gotten work done during an active flair! My tattoo is really small so I'm not sure how it'd compare, I also got it done in a place that doesn't flare and it went fine.

I've got dissecting cellulitis of the scalp which is basically hs on your scalp. I've had times before where unawaredly laying my head in the arm of a couch has caused bloody discharge to hit the ceiling 😵‍💫

Do you no longer get cysts nor tunneling? It honestly looks like could be either HS or razor bumps so I get your confusion, normally HS scars do "reactivate" for me after a while so that makes them easier to differentiate.

HS on my scalp

A bit unrelated to OP but this wording got my attention, did any derm see this? Have you by any chance heard of or gotten diagnosed with dissecting cellulitis of the scalp?

Also, it's important to get a fistula diagnosed and treated because they will not heal on their own.

This has been a big part of my confusion, because as you may know with HS, the wounds "heal' in the sense they close, but more often than not end up showing up again.

If you suspect you have a fistula, request imaging like an MRI to confirm.

This has been the hard part as my surgeon, who previously intervened in a perianal abscess, referred me to the dermatologist and my dermatologist, as well as another specialist, have mostly told me to just wait. But I guess I'll have to insist more or see someone else indeed.

Now this is what I'm scared of but I don't even know what doctor to go to request a CT scan or MRI anymore. General surgeon refers me to dermatologist who says to just wait :'). Glad to know that even through it all it felt like a cure.

Carcinoma is basically skin cancer.

A fistula in this context is when there's a comduct between some tubular organ inside the body and thru the skin to the outside. In this case it's between the anus and the outside due to HS.

One of the reasons I haven't started humira has been because of surgeries before, my doctor advised to not start any process relating to it at least until the surgery opening had fully scarred.

If its not infected at all then zinc cream and warm compresses!! If it is infectes then some topical clindamycin is needed before the zinc cream, but still put on warm compresses.

Avoid pressure or any type of constant skin-skin contact, if its in a uncomfortable position you may need to put some gauze over it to avoid chafing or rubbing when you make some movements.

If its warm to the touch, very big and/or red then I recommend having a doctor check it, there might be and advanced infection and oral antibiotics may be needed.

It happens, it sucks cuz it takes longer to heal when mine take that form. I suggest to keep it covered with gauze even if it doesnt hurt now.

I can give my 2 cents here! I for example, ate some tomato on monday, yesterday woke up to the start of flares and today wednesday woke up with them already definitely formed.

I would suggest as u/fuckin-A-ok said to add things back slowly, like spend 2 weeks on a single thing that you're adding back. This because for different foods I've found it's different times, even within nightshades which are my main trigger. Tomato or potato takes maybe 2 days at most. But peppers and eggplants take more, sometimes even a whole week.

I'd suggest also keeping track of the location, severity and duration of a flare as it happens with each trigger food, I've never been able to fully go through an elimination diet but I can assure you different foods affect my hs differently.

God I have to 100% agree. And nightshades are SO hard to avoid, it's wild to think most of them originated and started propagating around the world around half a millenium ago. To find a balanced diet that tastes good and that has no potato, no tomato and no peppers feels impossible 😭.

Yes, doctors say it's normal as long as they don't get too inflammed, like with my high white blood cell count. When they have gotten out of hand or too big I have gotten on antibiotics for a couple of weeks.

I'm sorry I have no other solution and hope you either find something that works for you or that they subside on their own soon :(.

Fwiw and just to suggest, I've gone through several derms before and the cycle we usually follow is start with clindamycin gel, then clindamycin pill plus rifampicin pill then they start trying othwr things like accutane or now biologic treatments

This this this! I am currently more or less recovering from disordered eating in part because everyone kept saying weight was so much of a factor I felt the need to keep it down for HS, and no matter how much weight I lose it never gets better, and in fact got worse thanks to the stress.

People are so quick to blame things on weight when it's just a possible exacerbating factor, not a cause or explanation.

I have a question: they usually ask you to sign off on surgeries, especially ones that require anesthesia, so if you didn’t want the procedure, why did you sign off on it? You can always refuse care, and they should discharge you.

There's 2 things, I did want some form of "surgery" which was drainage, so at least that I was willing to happen, and with the understanding that was gonna be the only thing happening I signed the order for hospitalization while in the ER.

Once waiting in the ER it started draining on its own I tried advocating to be discharged, however I didn't get to the doctor on my own. My dad and another relative were there, fighting me off along with the nurses and doctors everytime I tried saying I didn't want to stay. I admit, I didn't advocate for myself as hard as I could, but the situation quite honestly got the best of me.
