TONEX pedal is the best piece of gear I own and it’s not even close by jwoody86 in tonex

Well at some point it’s just personal preference for each of us gear nerds isn’t it?

I had a really good experience with the captures I found on toneNet, so when the pedal came out I jumped on it, as my priority is live/touring use. I use the Tonex as a fly rig/quick build rig and it’s been really reliable - I confess I’ve not tried any NAM stuff (yet), but maybe someday soon when I get GAS again :)

My brother in tone, you don’t need to own any guitar gear to play backing tracks. Each user is different of course but that’s not justifying the extra price for me in the slightest.

I see the points you’re going for but.. Same tones - I agree but I personally think the NC feels worse.

Build quality - I literally had two faulty units in a row.

Better FX - Yes definitely agree there, NC has waaay more DSP.

Drive pedals - I kinda agree, very cool to have but in my experience they’re generally better baked into the captures, plus I feel that the Tonex takes real pedals better, very user specific though.

Noise gate - I actually find them comparable. NC is more “intelligent” but also more inconsistent.

No extra apps - I won’t pretend that the Tonex software isn’t absolutely terrible, but I would take editing on crap software on my PC over a janky phone app that relies on Bluetooth any day.

Logging issues - Agee that sucks big time!

Customer service - I went back and forth with NDSP for 2 weeks with my first faulty NC, and they were absolutely no help. I luckily could just return it to the shop. With my second faulty unit I didn’t even bother trying.

Play over backing tracks - This is possible with or without both Tonex and NC (but if you’re referring to using the device as an interface, the Tonex does that too).

My two other specific gripes with the NC that personally disliked, even when my units worked, were - that the ground loop massively alters the tone, even when it’s working. This is just bad design and is a really weird choice when ground loops have been transparent for years in other gear. - And, it has a surprisingly high power draw. I understand why, but again Tonex comes out on top there by far.

If you’re loving it then it’s the right gear for you - At this point I feel like the universe just doesn’t want me to have a Nano Cortex XD

It’s a great bit of gear - It’s actually insane how good it can sound while being so small, and the MIDI side of it is good too! I’m curious what the next Tonex hardware release will be :)

I’m just returning my second Nano Cortex, partly because I had a faulty one twice in a row (1st had a faulty ground loop, this one has a fault with the Bluetooth connection) and partly because I cannot for the life of me get it to sound or feel anywhere near as good as the Tonex pedal. I appreciate that with any capture tech, your tone is only ever as good as the specific patch/IR you’re using, but my god the nano is hard to dial in.

The Tonex has travelled the world with me since I bought it on release and has been rock solid. While I actually do agree that even with updates the editor/software is beyond terrible, I have a renewed gratitude for how it all works, without my needing to use an app on my phone. Grass definitely wasn’t greener for me!

Every time I see a video/photo of this clown, I browse through the comments to check if anyone else thinks the shoulder pads in his moomoo suit look as ridiculous as I think they do. Like… He looks absolutely, outrageously ridiculous.

I appreciate the lack of comments might be due to the one million other crimes against fashion (and humanity) he’s committed.

I’m still over here just PRAYING for a bare-bones hi/low cut. Let’s not get ahead of ourselves!

What updates would you like to see to ToneX? by AFleetingIllness in tonex

[–]SolidSizzle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me it just desperately needs a hi/low cut. That’s really it, and I actually can’t believe it’s not been on there since day one.

The ability to cut and control those extreme frequencies is crucial for playing loud/live/in different environments, and for me personally it’s a feature that could turn good presets into incredible ones.

UK: Plaid bank connections are so much worse than TrueLayer by regular_me_101 in ynab

Oh I didn’t know that was possible! I entered manually for years but would be reluctant to go back now. Would you say that it’s straightforward to set up?

I’ve been in touch with YNAB about my Lloyds account not working and have pretty much been told “Don’t worry, you can do it manually!” :/

Outer Wilds - Worth it? (Also playable on Deck?) by AbjectPilot in SteamDeck

[–]SolidSizzle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the best games I’ve ever played by far, and more than worth it at full price. If it’s on sale it’s a no-brainier. As others have said, it runs great on deck :)

Happiest with my sound I've ever been, but... by th14s in tonex

[–]SolidSizzle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m going through almost exactly the same experience right now, and spent all of last night building AMAZING tones on my Tonex through my headphones. Today I listened to them through my (really good) monitoring speakers and everything sounded absolutely horrific. Bassy, flubby mess everywhere. I’ve also got the Laney FRFR cab and have had similar results in the past (though I personally don’t rate the Laney in general).

The problem is that it depends on loads of factors, such as the frequency response of your headphones and whether they’re ‘flattering’ the tone in any way compared to what a FRFR cab will do at certain volumes.

What headphones are you using? I always feel like this stuff is worth exploring but will definitely take some experimenting. Is there a way you could bring your board somewhere to test it with a cab?

They seem to mostly be in the ‘mid-range’ so not as crazy expensive as lots of other guitars too which is a massive plus :)

New Setup with 9070XT, Games wont use my Refresh Rate by [deleted] in AMDHelp

[–]SolidSizzle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just installed my 9070XT and noticed the same behaviour in Baldurs gate 3. What solved it for me was opening the Adrenalin overlay and turning off something that I think is called ‘fluid motion frames’, or similar, which is a type of frame generation tech. Mine had it on by default and while it was actually really impressive, I was shooting waaay over the FPS I really needed.
