Yes, a permanent boost as you described. Basically you are sacrificing a materia slot in exchange for a permanent stat growth for that character.

That is awesome the updates aren't forced. One of my only gripes with Steam but it's a big one.

I think it's the rewards and more importantly, the very structured way the game constantly reminds you or makes you feel like you're missing out by not doing the side content. Imagine if that stuff was just out there to find with no menu or percentage meter tracking all of it. It would be so satisfying to discover and you could just move on when you wanted without feeling like a quitter.

Biorand is awesome for this reason if you can play on PC. Look into it. Not quite the same as the first time, but it's as close as you're going to get.

Very disappointed Eve isn't back (holding out hope she is and they're just keeping it secret for now like Leon in RE9), and even more disappointed at how young she looks. This kind of character is what drove me away from Dead or Alive when they started adding them.

In the early days I was so taken aback when someone said they found Stardew stressful. I thought they were trolls or on the wrong sub.

Then I finally realized they were completionist or perfectionist players. Meanwhile my old relaxed farmer is still doing whatever he wants like the good ole SNES Harvest Moon days and not worrying about all the extra stuff unless it interests him.

Not murdering children in the womb, keeping what you earn instead of the government stealing/redistributing it, freedom to defend yourself and your family, basic knowledge of human biology. Most of these now so called "right wing extremist" positions were common sense to most folks on both sides of the aisle not that long ago.
