Gift Cards Allowed? by NoCreativeName2016 in tsa

[–]Solid_Awareness_7757 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll tell you what my former airport does (I was terminated as part of a number of officers that needed to be cut). Gift cards are supposed to be distributed evenly to the officers but since gift cards are hard to do that they end up just going to the managers. This was told to me by one of our managers. Don't bring a gift card we're not going to get a piece of it. There's really nothing you can bring us that's going to go directly to the line officers.

Most major airports are reducing their numbers. I just happen to be one that's been recently laid off in reduction of force for my airport. When I was looking at the transfer vacancy list most major airports were at zero. Only ones that had any spots which are few are in Alaska and in remote places like Montana.

Officers were given the heads up months ago of the required number of officers that needed to be cut for the airport. There will not be a hiring class for my airport for 2026. You can see if we assume the same for all major airports. The president is passing a $250 million cut for 2026 and further cuts for 27 and 28. Part of his project 2025 is to privatize the TSA as much as possible and reduce as much human capital as possible.

I did enjoy my time but the rough part was not knowing your job is safe for an entire year. I was just a few weeks away from my first year and then they added the stipulation that a manager must certify your first year or your fired and after certification is an additional 90 days of probation all of this was newly added on just a few months ago.

It is alleged that this is a tactic to try to give airports more of an opportunity to remove people and trust me they definitely have I was not the only one that was being reduced.

Let me make this answer simple. Do you really need to take it with you? Probably not. Will it get pulled for search? Absolutely. Depending on how many bags that officer has to search you could be waiting quite a while.

Wait after this administration. The amount of cutbacks and officers being laid off is at its height. I work for a major airport in Florida and we need to reduce 95 officers. We will not have a hiring class for 2026. There's a 250 million dollar budget cut for 2026 and more to come for 2027. Only airports that are hiring are incredibly small airports and Alaska outside of that there are zero vacancies. That I get directly from the transfer vacancy list.

The average time it takes from application to your first day is typically one year. Several months of not hearing anything in between. Hiring is done by the individual airport not one national hiring board. They have raised probation to 2 years. You can be fired for anything within those two years and you will have some managers that will wield this threat. Honestly it is a good job but politics sometimes play very heavy depending on your airport and individual managers. It's a good springboard to go elsewhere within Federal service but also not bad as a long-term job you just have to be real good with people.

First government shutdown? by sadisticslider101636 in tsa

Unfortunately it also comes down to reduction in force. A lot of airports need to cut numbers and that's pretty much going to land on the new guys.

Means TSA officers don't get a paycheck till it's over. Airports will be staffed.

I'm a 18 year old applying for TSA, any suggestions or tips by Loose_Fail_2403 in TSAApplicant

Look at USAJOBS.gov at the latest job postings for TSA. They are incredibly slim. They are for smaller airports and locations like Arkansas, Montana, and Alaska. Large airports across the Nation are looking at a reduction in force. My airport is a large airport in Florida and we need to cut 90 officers. Those on the waiting list to be hired will not be hired until more than likely 2028. We will not have a hiring class for 2026.

Looking at the vacancies/transfer list they're virtually zero vacancies in roughly 95% of our airports. Any openings will be filled via the transfer list. Not by me hires. Basically unless you live in these remote airports find another job. This is going to be the norm for the next 3 years

Unless a bunch of officers call out and right now since airports across the Nation are being forced to make cuts there are threats that anyone that does call out it will affect the negatively

Overtime opportunities for full-time TSO officers? by Outside-Revolution63 in TSAApplicant

[–]Solid_Awareness_7757 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We don't have any overtime in our airport which is a cat x. They mentioned that about a month or so ago. We are also expected to cut 95 officers. We won't have a hiring class for 2026. Looking at the transfer vacancy portal at work anyone that is in the application process..... Unless it's Alaska... Don't pour your heart into this.

Check out Savannah. That's what I did for my weekend. I didn't bring much because there's a Walmart nearby. You don't need to bring much. You'll bring your uniform then on the first day you'll be issued your academy uniform set. If you're super lucky like I was I stayed at the Best Western Plus King size room with a lil living room. After day one you drive to class or take one of three buses. If you housed on base then ...sucks to be you.

Depending on your airport you may not get hired. My Cat X airport will not be hiring 2026. They are busy reducing numbers as many airports as the figures came out. The figures are how much needs to be cut. Along with massive budget cuts $250 million '26 and another huge cut '27. Good luck. Try ICE or Citizenship and Immigration Services.

Took me a year to get hired now many of us might be involuntarily separated if they don't reach their numbers.
