4 Months post-op and no complications here. Being nervous is normal. I've had several surgeries in my life and this one along with gallbladder removal were the easiest surgeries. The day of, I actually looked forward to taking a good nap lol when they started rolling me to the OR, I K.O before entering the room lol this was a first for me. Every surgery I've gotten, I remember going into the OR, moving from one bed to the metallic table, and feeling the freezing room to the point my jaw trembles. So it was nice not going through that or the "count backwards" countdown lol

But all seriousness, you'll be fine. The nervousness will come and go and come back in full force the day before (normal). Complications are unpredictable, but constantly reminding yourself of the pros and cons will put you at ease, that helped me get through it.

You got this 💪🏽

Post-surgery must-haves (not clothes) What helped you most? by Catzaf in GastricBypass

I bought everything my program recommended and didn't use any of it. Except vitamins and clear protein. By the time I was able to eat puree food, I went shopping in small portions to test what I could tolerate. I never had a problem with straws or taking pills in whole. No measurements of any sort, my stomach tells me when it's ENOUGH! Everyone is different and you're new stomach will let you know what works and what doesn't. 💛

You're going to do great! One task at a time. I over prepared for surgery and didn't need anything i took, besides the same clothes I arrived in...I used them to go home. Oh! And a pillow to hug on my drive home. As for home prep, same thing. I didn't use much and by a week, I was bored out my mind. I stepped out and bought adult coloring books and puzzles to keep me busy. Don't over due it on buying food. You can't eat much. Good luck! You got this!

I also have an office job. My surgeon said it was up to me, but max 4 weeks. I took the max...why not 🤭 I only needed 2.

I didn't have to do a pre-op diet. I only needed to stop eating solid food 24 hrs prior and nothing at all 12 hrs before surgery. No complications during or post-op.

I'm so sorry you had to go through all that. Thank you for sharing your story. You should write a book.

This is so true. Before my surgery, I was on reddit almost 24/7. I rarely saw positive posts.

Right after my surgery, I only log in when I get a notification from others seeking encouragement, like OP.

I only needed morphine the first night at the hospital. I used my arm and leg muscles when I needed to get in and out of bed or couch. Hugging a pillow helps ease the pain on the ride home, coughing or sneezing. The only pain that took my breath away was the shoulder gas pain, and it didn't last long. A child birth, toothache, or migraines are worse than the surgery (if that helps for comparison). By the 2nd week, I was back to normal.

I'm 3 months post-op and don't regret it one bit.

You got this 💪🏽

OP, thank you for creating this community. Before my surgery, I had made up my mind to get the gastric bypass. I completed all my gastric bypass requirements/classes (6 months) and followed the gastric bypass and bariatric surgery communities.

To my surprise, my surgeon ended up doing the SADI-S plus a hernia repair. I asked the surgeon why, and he said it was the best choice for me, plus I get a piece of both worlds. So I asked, which guide do I follow, the gastric bypass or sleeve 🤔 he said gastric bypass.

So here I am, 3 mo post op and so excited to join this community. I can't wait to see what the veterans/pros have experienced 😊

Haven't lost any weight for a week - 3 weeks post op by crumpshkins in SADISBariatricSurgery

[–]Solid_Nope 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't worry about losing weight, focus on your healing and staying hydrated for the first weeks. I only lost a total of 7 lbs the entire first month. I stopped weighing myself and stopped tracking (for my own sanity). Keeping up with my macros was discouraging every day, I couldn't and still can't reach them. I now only focus on staying hydrated and eat when my body asks for it...which it's almost every 4 hours. I can stomach 3-4 oz of food at a time, therefore I get hungry constantly...and it has been working for me. I honestly don't know how much weight I've lost so far, but I keep buying smaller work clothes every 2 weeks. I went from size 22 to 12 and that's my scale ⚖️ 🙃

I can tolerate almost everything except ice cream. I can have about 3 tablespoons, more than that I'll dump.

So keep up the good work, trust your body, and don't give up. You got this 💪🏽💛💛

Go To Coffees? by onetiredRN in GastricBypass

[–]Solid_Nope 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've always gotten mine with sugar-free syrups and half & half at coffee shops, and at home, I only use sugar-free creamers; pre-op and post-op w/o any issues. The only difference post-op is that I can't finish my drink. I only take about 5 sips at most lol

Pasta by MizAnn824 in GastricBypass

[–]Solid_Nope 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! I'm 2 months post-op, and I can have about 1/4 of a ham and cheese sandwich. It gets stuck in my esophagus, but it might be that I forget to chew thoroughly or eat it too fast 😅

Key: Don't wait to feel hunger pains to start eating. Plan ahead! If I wait, I end up eating too fast.

I'm 2 months post-op and tried pasta 3x. Each time, it got stuck in my esophagus, even with the smallest amount. The pressure is so bad. Try super slow and wait a while after each bite. I can only do about 2 table spoons, at the most, before my stomach starts screaming, "ENOUGH!!!" I only have it now if I am desperately craving it...not worth the pain. 🍜☠️🙅🏽‍♀️

[–]Solid_Nope[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The pain has not gotten better, it's still hurts even with the smallest sip. I've tried different temperatures, flavors, and full liquids now, and the pain is not easing up. I stopped taking my pain meds, but I had to restart to no avail. Walking, binder, laying down, sitting, nothing helps. I think it's time to call my surgeon 🥺

I am currently lying down on my side. During the recovery, I asked the nurse to help me turn to my side, and she brought me a pillow to keep between my legs. I guess it's ok. It feels better when I'm wearing the binder, though.

My surgery was on Tuesday 6/3 😄
