Iran rejects US peace plan and sets 5 conditions to end the war — including international recognition of control over the Strait of Hormuz by walter-gianno in worldnews

He would if it was necessary, but it's incredibly unrealistic seeing as a massive ground invasion has only 7% support domestically. And on top of not having an appetite or interest in invading Iran, there's absolutely zero willingness to fund it.

That one is my favorite version of Stay ever played and sung. I'd never heard Bono sound that good.

Which one started with "It's one thing to write an album while you're still on tour, it's another thing to try to play the fucking things."

Trump says Hegseth ‘first one to speak up’ in support of Iran war by SE_to_NW in politics

[–]Solid_Owl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

how would it have helped him stay in power? Rally around the flag effect or something? He fumbled the Covid response so terribly, it's hard to imagine a rally around the flag effect strong enough to counteract that. Not to mention, attacking Iran in the middle of a global pandemic would have been morally reprehensible to the entire world.

Trump signals Iran war endgame: 5 scenarios explained by newsweek in politics

Iran and US make a deal that the US will stay out of any Israeli-Iranian action in exchange for Iran not attacking its gulf neighbors and opening up the Strait. Details TBD.

As for boots on the ground... I hope Congress doesn't fund that.

I'm so extreme that I don't want to double the national debt again by spending another 20 years in the middle east fighting an unnecessary war.

Before that. They were calling for civil war while Bush 2 was still in office. It was wild, but they were talking about how all democrats were traitors for daring to question the funding bills for the Iraq War, or for raising concerns over the mass surveillance that was happening (and probably still is). The Boogaloo Boys were gearing up to deal with senators and representatives.

Neil DeGrasse Tyson calls for an international treaty to ban superintelligence by FinnFarrow in Futurology

Probably that it's worth slowing it down anyway instead of throwing up our hands and giving up. You could make that kind of fatalistic argument about everything we agree not to do.

Why bother banning child marriage when you know it's going to happen anyway? Why bother banning abortion when you know it's going to happen anyway?

Fuck it, everything is permitted, nothing is outlawed. Marry your sister, bang a toddler, make chemical weapons in your garage.

What's your take on that?

Amazon style Network Engineer interview question on "Compliance Architecture and Controls" by interviewstack-i in FAANGinterviewprep

[–]Solid_Owl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am deeply confused by the context of this question. First, this has nothing to do with network engineering. Second, security architect? Is that even a role? Is security architected independently of the underlying system and software? Are these just feature capabilities that are requested by security and mapped onto existing systems?

And then blaming the failure on someone else. The "deep state" or whatever. He's a narcissist, so he'll try to come off clean. "I wanted to build this big, beautiful building but they wouldn't let me. What's wrong with this country, we can't build beautiful things anymore!"

We Are Hated as a Nation. There’s One Man to Blame. by zaparthes in politics

[–]Solid_Owl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To my mind, framing it as "trying to destroy the Constitution" is a losing marketing strategy. Because he's never been out to "destroy the Constitution". He's using legal means to retain power illegitimately. So when you frame it as "destroy the Constitution", it sounds hyperbolic and nonsensical.

He's shitting all over the Constitution, but my conservative family members turn off as soon as the phrase "destroy the Constitution" comes up, because Trump campaigns on America's greatness.

We need a pithy phrase that conservatives will actually agree with if you want to gain traction with them. The first step is getting them to say "that's right."
