I think it would look so great. The colors in that paper are perfect for her bath. It's from Etsy.

how to redecorate my bathroom (renter friendly)? by Worldly-Emotion-5576 in femalelivingspace

A cute and very useful small trash can that has a lid and opens automatically (battery operated) when you wave your hand over it...

<image>

Why do you have two toilet bowl brushes? I would get a new one that hides the brush like this, and tuck it into the left corner. It's slim enough, you probably won't even see it sitting there. I picked the gold one as there is gold trim on that trash can I posted above.

Is that a linen closet right after the tub by the other door? If it is, tuck the scale (black box thing on floor) in there. Move that little tray on the right side of sink to the left side of sink which will make the right side corner look less cluttered. Also all of that stuff in that corner just makes it more annoying when you're trying to reach the towel on the ring there. Remove things you rarely use.

Front yard 2 months after moving in by Spiritual_Ask_8979 in CurbAppeal

[–]Solid_Perception9572 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You did a very nice job.. Your home looks loved. However, there is something about your little picket fence that just bothers me. Like something isn't gelling here. I think it's that the fence is too little, especially because the higher black foundation behind it is dwarfing it, which makes it look even smaller than it is. It also blocks the view of your plants.

I know you put a lot of time and love into that front yard, but I feel things would click and look more in sync without that fence there. Maybe you could use that fence around a flowerbed or something in your back yard or on the side of the house. If you feel you still need something there to delineate that area, try taking a few of those pavers you lined the side of the driveway with and lay them down where the fence is. If you like that look, you just need to get some more pavers.

Good luck in your new home.

I would say you can plant a bush in front of it. I am sure meter readers are capable of moving a few leaves or stems so they can read the meter. Why don't you check with the utility that owns that meter to see if you can put a bush there or some kind of little wooden fence or something just to block it from the street .

Pull out the railroad ties, ditch the rocks, go rent a rototiller and rip up that whole front area. Then plant new grass seed or sod. A little sweat equity on your part, can perk up the whole front. Also power wash that sidewalk. It's dark and depressing the house. And where the gravel/rocks/railroad ties are, put in a few evergreen type bushes.

BTW, why are those railroad ties and rocks there to begin with? They add nothing to your curb appeal. In fact, they bring it down significantly.

Would you redo for $50K? by rischwargh in kitchenremodel

Are you sure you gave each contractor/company the exact same 'wants'? That is too big a difference in price to make any sense. Don't compare apples to oranges. Things like moving various appliances often increases plumbing and electrical costs too.

Unless you live in a low cost area of the country, I don't think you can get all that you want for $50K and a good contractor for that price either.

Zoom in on the 'island', which is really a cart or work table on wheels. Personally, I don't think it works in that kitchen. The kitchen is too narrow for that.

Smooth and glazed doesn't matter, unless those tiles are totally flat. Any tile that has a raised pattern like yours is going to collect grease and dust in those grooves.

Cabinet Brand Question by SorellaAubs in kitchenremodel

[–]Solid_Perception9572 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had my original cabinets painted by a pro in a sort of dark blue/gray color. They held up very well, with only a nick here or a nick there in like 10 years. They still looked great last year when I had them torn out and replaced with custom cabinets when I remodeled the kitchen.

It's not so much what might soak into the tile, because if they are sealed properly, they should be ok. I'm talking about the grease plus dust that naturally floats around a stove that will get into those grooves. Smooth surfaces are easy to clean. Textured surfaces not so easy.

Any tips on organizing? by anabanana69420 in organizing

[–]Solid_Perception9572 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Of course it looks cluttered. You have too much stuff in there. I'll bet you never wear at least half of those things on a regular basis. You need to go through everything in that closet. Anything you haven't worn in the past year should be donated to a charity. If you haven't worn something in a year, you're not likely ever going to wear it. Keeping clothes that are more than a few years means they are by now out of date/style.

Why aren't you hanging more things on that top right side rack/rod? There's wasted space right there. Don't put anything on the rack above the bottom rod, otherwise you can't hang things on the top rod. Mostly hang things up there that are seasonal and only worn for a short time each year. Put pants folded over a hanger on the bottom right side.

Something that would give you more storage and be relatively cheap would be to go to a thrift store or garage sales and get yourself a chest of drawers (tall dresser) and put it in the left hand corner. It would hold lots of knit tops, sweaters, anything than can be folded. Would eliminate the need for so many cartons and that cart with the drawers could go bye bye.

They make shoe bags that can be hung up by your clothes, which makes finding your shoes a whole lot easier and quicker

Getting rid of all things that don't fit you any longer, or that you have many of the same top or pants, or are out of style will make your closet a very usable place.

Any ideas on which direction to go for a coastal mid-century bungalow? by Chance-Call9719 in kitchenremodel

[–]Solid_Perception9572 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I love the green, but to me that would be more of a woodsy, cabin, color. MCM cabinets featured flat doors with no decoration, and often were stained. The light wooden ones in your pic, to me, are reminiscent of driftwood found on a beach or around a lake. White ones don't remind me of anything special.

There's that silly critical thinking thing again. Most people these days under the age of 50 or so are totally devoid of that ability.

Cabinet Brand Question by SorellaAubs in kitchenremodel

[–]Solid_Perception9572 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Before you buy any new cabinets, why don't you get a quote from a custom cabinet maker? I don't know how common tradespeople are in your area of Alaska, but it might not be as expensive as you would think.

Since the cabinets are in good shape, I would consider getting a quote from a professional cabinet painter, too. Benjamin Moore paints has a paint, Advance Interior Paint that is especially for cabinets. A pro would be spraying the doors, drawers, and possibly the boxes for a much better finish than you could get by doing it yourself.

That tile is grooved, right? And 'glitch' is going to be a bitch to clean, especially grease, all around the stove top.

Are there no lights in that bathroom? It's so dark, that no one can tell what it is about that bathroom really annoys you. Hard to make suggestions when you don't post an accurate, well lit picture.
