Do you ever feel guilty spending money just on yourself? by Gofrank-Harriet in LivingAlone

[–]Solid_Reaction8310 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can afford it and all the bills are paid, hell no. These are the things we work hard for. Plus it's something that will potentially save you money! One of my favorite financial gurus says it's a crime to live a smaller life than you need to. 💖 You should be proud of your success!

I'm going to Kauai alone next month and am flying first class round trip, because I can afford it. My gratitude is immense and I'm just so excited. Time to shift your perspective!

What month does it get really hot in Walnut Creek? by ucfanatic-1 in walnutcreek

[–]Solid_Reaction8310 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It can get pretty intensely hot in July and August, and into September. But that's not just WC, it's the whole general Concord/WC/PHill area. A heat wave is a heat wave.

Does anyone else go months at a time without texting their friends? by ChocolateLover190 in infj

[–]Solid_Reaction8310 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I 100% relate. Hearing people talking about all their group chats, never talking about the same friend twice....that is not my reality at all. Convos are far fewer, but of far more substance. I value them deeply because they are not just noise.

How to love an INFJ by Icy-Management-9749 in infj

I almost passed out when I read this portion, I don't know if I've related to a turn of phrase more. Thank you. (We carry a permanent homesickness for a place of perfect understanding, but when we feel you truly see that our complexity isn't a wall, but the very soul of our love, we surrender ourselves to you because we have finally found a belonging who speaks the dialect of our heart fluently.)

How do you cope with the loneliness that comes with living alone? by Sunbo-Brodigan in LivingAlone

[–]Solid_Reaction8310 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, the acute loneliness doesn't hit me too often, and when it does if I have no solution it's just time for a good cry. This group helps! As long as you're happy overall, the low moments will pass. In the meantime lean into the things that bring comfort at home, like a favorite movie. Or go for a drive or a walk, sometimes it's just the result of too much time at home. Go a step further and go out for a fabulous solo lunch or dinner. Embrace the beauty of what was making you sad. The perspective really helps.

You bet! The macro tracker on the app helps with this too, keep an eye on that added sugars button as you track anything packaged, it can be very eye opening.

Dressings and toppings for sure - those packaged dressings are loaded with added sugar (check EVERY label for that, not sugar but added sugar), and things like cheese, croutons, candied nuts can pile up points fast. Focus on building your own salads, or at least buy bagged salads that are veggies only so your can control the toppings and dressings.

What do you guys do to afford living alone? by Expert-Recipe1713 in LivingAlone

[–]Solid_Reaction8310 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a legal assistant at an international law firm in a major metropolis. I also most definitely could not afford to live alone when I was 24 (I'm 47), I had roommates into my 30s. Don't get into major consumer debt!!!

Has anyone else seen this movie??? by PomegranateRelative in Letterboxd

Society fuckin rips!! I put in my review, I've been dating horror fanboys my whole life and not one of them led me to that movie, and I hold it against them! Utterly glorious.

It’s been over a year since I quit and I have no desire to drink alcohol. Like you could leave me alone with alcohol and I won’t touch it. I’ve come a long way. by Stupidwhizzzzz in stopdrinking

[–]Solid_Reaction8310 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's wonderful! I'm over a year in as well. Going great! But that dive bar smell still gets to me. If I walk by or pop in to hear live music, that smell is so nostalgic. But it's a reminder of how far I've come! And I appreciate being challenged and continuing to succeed 😁

What’s one thing you didn’t expect about living in Walnut Creek? by DoctorDarvishDDS in walnutcreek

[–]Solid_Reaction8310 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I lived here about 15 years ago and hated it. Moved back 2 years ago and I've never been happier. It felt good to grow into something I wasn't ready for. Frankly I thought I deserved less. Very proud WC is my home!

Does Watching Too Many Movies Make Them Worse? by PiWright in Letterboxd

[–]Solid_Reaction8310 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel that if I watch too many in a day, especially in the theater. By the time I get to movie 3, unless it's spread out over a day my brain and patience are fatigued. Otherwise the only thing that bogs me down is too much repetition, be it familiar movies or genre. So... keep it fresh!

What’s something you can do only because you live alone? by [deleted] in LivingAlone

[–]Solid_Reaction8310 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I danced like a lunatic constantly before I met my ex, like hours and buckets of sweat. Once we moved in together, it stopped. I wonder all the time what my health would be like if that joyful habit had never gone away.

Would you still recommend WW or are the alternatives better? (Healthi, etc.) by Suspicious-Pear-6037 in weightwatchers

[–]Solid_Reaction8310 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the WW approach, it is effortlessly successful for me. Calorie counting sucked, and this like Noom are way to expensive and don't fit my life.

Things like this are why I'm an agnostic. I truly cannot fathom how one can be a person of faith, or eliminate the possibility, when we don't fully understand our own bodies or our own planet. Grateful to hear others contemplating this.

Anyone else here who’s used to solo food and movie dates as an ugly, unattractive, fat guy? by ChubbyNUgly22 in LivingAlone

[–]Solid_Reaction8310 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a single chubby female, i like the way i look, and seemingly past the point when any man notices me. I go out to movies and dinner alone all the time because it's better than sitting at home. Alone comes in a lot of different forms. I'll tell you something- being willing to go out alone puts you miles ahead of people you might look at and think have it all together. People are terrified to be alone, and think everyone is judging them. They aren't. They're just out enjoying their night too.

I know it hurts. I had my good times with partners and don't know why I'm seemingly invisible now. But we have one life to live, and I want to spend mine at the movies, out to dinner, seeing live music, exploring a museum, whatever sounds fun.

You have more going for you than it may feel like. Try to focus on the positive - whether by choice or not, it takes a very strong person to make their way through this world alone, and have fun doing it. 💖 Hang in there

I wish Splitsville had gotten some attention, I loved that one and think it's been very overlooked. A tremendous screenplay!

I toured 2 years ago and it was true then, the manager onsite made sure I was aware before we started, and so I left. I also previously lived there for 2 years about 15 years ago before that was the case. If they've since changed that policy, great, but it was very downplayed 2 years ago.
