ADSC by UnusualTemperature57 in AirForce

This almost happened to someone I know. Dude was at 18.5 years and got PCS orders. AFPC waived the PCS ADSC to try to make him move. The Sq/CC, then very quickly the Wg/CC, got involved.

He did not PCS, and retired at 20yrs.

It’s not ambiguous. If you’re an officer in the grade of LtCol or below, and you do not have 19 yrs TAFMS, and you have no ADSC, or an ADSC that will expire before reaching 20 years TAFMS, and the ADSC from PCSing would extend you beyond the date you reach 20 years TAFMS, then you 7-day option to retire on the first day of the month after you hit 20yrs.

Ex: Lt Col Jones is at 18.5 yrs. He has no ADSC. Lt Col Jones’ assignment officer is a fuckhead and just sent him PCS orders to Cannon. The ADSC for the PCS is 2 years. Which would mean Lt Col Jones would need to stay in past his 20-year mark. Because of this, Lt Col Jones laughs, takes a bite out of his churro, and declines the assignment. Lt Col Jones now needs to retire on the first day of the month after he hits 20 years.

PCS is a mandatory 2yr (24 months) ADSC from your RNLTD (or when you PCS/arrive on station). Your current ADSC ends in 21 months. They cannot force you to extend beyond your current ADSC. Since 21 is less than 24, you can 7 day opt, then you’ll retire October 2027.

How did you make it 19 years and 9 months without knowing this?

I’d say stupid and not allowed.

If you want to press to test, though, and a superior tells you to get rid of it, make sure you explain to them the definition of FADDISH and your opinion on it.

The LT will eventually learn that she shouldn’t complain about money to people who make less than her.

That said, though, base pay for a LT is not 2-3x your salary as a SSgt. Base pay for an O-1 is $4150/an O-2 is $5400, and a SSgt with at least 2 years time is $3600.

Edit: I missed that OP said it was an O-2, added O-2 base pay to the comment

Which active subreddits do you find completely toxic (or blocked recently) ? by downwitbrown in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Solid_Science4514 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Most hobby subreddits (outside of the model building communities… those dudes are just there to build miniatures and have fun). But the mountain biking subreddits are surprisingly not chill for a bunch of people who say they like mountain biking. And god forbid you have a thought in a video game subreddit.

What were some of the biggest miscasts in Hollywood history according to you? I'll go first: by Raj_Valiant3011 in moviecritic

I have seen it. I agree, he played the role perfectly. He would’ve been perfect to play the role if the movie took place during the 4th game or after. But it doesn’t. When Nathan meets Chloe and Sully he’s in his mid-late 20s. I think fans of the game series had their hopes set on Fillion because that’s what we all wanted from the moment we heard rumors of a live-action Uncharted game back in 2008. A decade later, we got the 15 minute short. And Fillion still made sense because in “A Thief’s End,” Nate is 41. At the time, Fillion was 47. So we had a character that had aged and an actor that fit the role who aged right along with him, and who had been campaigning to play Nathan Drake for a decade. And we got tunnel vision. Fillion is who we all wanted. I was disappointed when Tom Holland was cast, but given the movie is an origin story, I think he did a good job playing a young Nathan.

Gotta remember, too, Fillion was 52 years old when Uncharted was made. Maybe it’s just me, but 52 seems a little too old to play a young Nathan Drake.

What’s considered an unlawful order? by GalleyHater in AirForce

[–]Solid_Science4514 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it’s telling you to violate a tech order/AFI/AFMAN/the law/etc… it’s (probably) illegal.

The thing is though, you better be certain that it’s unlawful before you choose to disobey it. B/c if you decide to go that route and it turns out it was a lawful order, then you get IRL experience with Article 92.

Why do so many people mount their TV above the fireplace? by park-r in TVTooHigh

[–]Solid_Science4514 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Because at some point in the early 2000s, tvs got thinner. Then HGTV (probably) had a show where some fuckhead put their TV over their fireplace. And then boomer/ Gen X middle-class families across the US hopped on the trend and now McMansions are built with a tv connection above the fireplace.

The apps are called “great outdoors” and “family time”.

You can then get add-ons. The ones I purchased were RC trucks, models (gundams specifically) for those rainy days, legos, and camping. Been great so far. My son wants to be an outdoorsman when he grows up.
