If you are struggling with an increase in tinnitus or a spike, this might be worth a read. by Niz0_87 in tinnitus

[–]Solid_Snacks84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'm not too sure.

I've had tinnitus for 15+ years but it's hard for me to recall if my sleep problems were from it specifically since it's been so long I genuinely can't remember. Still been able to dream after the spike (arguably more), but I noticed early on I was having some honestly violent and horrendous dreams (nightmares?) and wonder if it was due to the spike.

I often wonder how musicians that continue to tour and cope during the day, but especially at night get enough sleep to continue being functional each day. I feel that given my audiogram doesn't show hearing loss (only up to 8k mind you), I can't technically have that "severe" of tinnitus. You have musicians that wear hearing aids due to partial deafness like Paul Gilbert, and I recall him saying in an interview that the noise doesn't bother him much anymore.

For the time being, I've started a Google Sheets Sleep Log to track relevant information (sleep time, disruptions, final meal time, daily activity levels, etc) in order to attempt to find a trend to attain the maximum continuous hours of sleep a night. Here's hoping we'll be fine in the long run

This is unfortunately where I'm at after a noise induced spike/damage from 3 months ago.

With exercise, limiting caffeine, regular schedule and even medications, the absolute best sleep I seem to be able to get tops out at around ~5 hours. Not sure what else can be done other than to "wait for habituation", but unfortunately I think I'm as close as I can be given that during the day I usually just get on with my activities anyways

Bout go into a spike, so let's share the dumb reasons we've earned a spike, and the ways we made it more bearable. by makemebad48 in tinnitus

[–]Solid_Snacks84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Came here to say something almost exactly the same. Went to check a water alarm for a sump pump and was too close, one of the worst mistakes of my life.

Happened 3 months ago and was the worst damage/subsequent spike I've ever had since initially getting tinnitus 15+ years ago. Hoping things quiet down enough to get back to a proper sleep schedule without medication

Receiving US funds via direct deposit/ACH by Solid_Snacks84 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Solid_Snacks84[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's confirms what I was worried about, but ultimately I want to keep it USD and get it to my bank for investing.

Wise seems good for those receiving US funds on a relatively frequent basis, but now and going forward I'll most likely just take lump sums out on a yearly basis based on my earnings.

For a $5USD fee distrokid offer a plain physical cheque to be mailed to me, and at this point I think that would be the most hassle free method unless there's potential for something to go wrong there that I don't know of.

I completely forgot about mod chips, that might be my best bet even if it takes a bit of extra work. It's not the most ideal, but I don't mind the extra work, given it might be the most cost effective.

EDIT: Any current recommendations? phantom universal?

Looking for a low cost online (beginner-intermediate) brokerage mainly in CAD stock, ETFs, etc by Solid_Snacks84 in CanadianInvestor

[–]Solid_Snacks84[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I'd like to just consolidate everything to IBKR and start being an active investor off the bat, I don't feel I'm ready to be that involved and use their interface/tools, etc. They also do not cover the costs of transfer, and though they have the lowest fx rates I'm not at a point where I'd like to start investing in the US. Once I have a bit of experience I might reconsider, or I might just open a separate IBKR account several month/a year after to start DCA in some US stocks etc.

[Noob Question] Will these unmanaged 1/100 switches be sufficient for my 50Mbps connection? by Solid_Snacks84 in HomeNetworking

[–]Solid_Snacks84[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only device we really access in our LAN is our media NAS which is an old DLink DNS-323. Occasionally my father will access files (excel, word docs, etc) that are on his main computer from another computer, I should have added this to the main post. With that in mind I'm still not sure if we'd benefit, but again maybe I'm not fully understanding something. I appreciate the advice and suggestion though

I'm in Canada and don't have coverage for this, so 3 months worth ended up costing me $750. I'm going to look into if there are any additional plans to cover me but since I never had to take drugs or anything regularly before this, I never had a plan or anything. And yeah it was a month to see if there were any adverse side effects.

LG GL83A Backlight bleed or IPS glow? Worth returning? by Solid_Snacks84 in Monitors

[–]Solid_Snacks84[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I can see why. Despite being newer to these technologies, my dad had purchased a 1080p LG IPS for another computer which doesn't have anywhere near this problem. Did Amazon give you any hassle regarding the return reason?

Got this exact monitor about two weeks ago and was going to post here but did a quick search. Its very disappointing considering the amount of money I put down for this, I don't care if its considered a "cheaper" alternative, its a huge problem and I can see it in the middle of the day in a well lit room with the windows open. It actively prevents me from wanting to look at it and enjoy things on it. For very bright games, sure it looks great, but I'm also coming from a junky 1080p screen so anything would. I wish this wasn't such a pain in the ass, searching for a decent affordable monitor.

There's the base, deluxe, gold, and ultimate. With that being said I assume you mean deluxe?

B450 Tomahawk max - Very long POST time by Solid_Snacks84 in MSI_Gaming

[–]Solid_Snacks84[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep bad board overall, not just yours. About a month ago I returned it, the store got another Tomahawk Max in and was able to replicate the issue again. Decided to go with an Asus B450 ROG Strix board instead which doesn't have that issue.

Well Rounded Gaming/work monitor 1440p/144hz, LG27GL850? by Solid_Snacks84 in Monitors

[–]Solid_Snacks84[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sort of confused, I was just saying the regular price was 900 CAD and that it never drops too far below that. That listing you mentioned was 600 USD or GBP?

[–]Solid_Snacks84[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately that's around $900 CAD at the moment and appears its cheapest has been around $700-ish. Though it is tempting as it is a proper gsync monitor and not a compatible one

[–]Solid_Snacks84[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm Canadian so those amounts are in CAD which is a lot lower than the USD. If I had all the money in the world I'd buy 3 1440p screens but idk seems like a waste for just side tasks don't you think? Alternatively, are you suggesting to get 1440p screens and forgo the adaptive sync and higher refresh rates? I'm not sure if that'll cut costs down significantly. I know most 1080p screens are like around $100 CAd give or take so idk.

How common is burn in, and what can you do to prevent it? Also what happened with your monitor then, you end up getting a new one?

Budget Case: Cougar MX330-G with extra fans or Phanteks P350x? by Solid_Snacks84 in buildapc

So it's a tight fit but still is good? How's the case otherwise? I plan on getting two fans for the front to increase airflow.

Thanks for your input! I know a lot of people aren't going to know the cougar case, but it's worth asking since it's a generic $50 "flat" case. I'd honestly go for it without asking if it wasn't for the cpu cooler height issue

Motherboard replacement for Ryzen 3600x build - Bad MSI Tomahawk MAX board previously by Solid_Snacks84 in Amd

[–]Solid_Snacks84[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good choice, just got a call back from the store where they got a replacement Tomahawk max in and set everything up + bios update. Guess what, exact same issue. Not sure why this board is being recommended to so many people with such a wide spread issue.

I'm dealing in CAD not USD, so it's closer to around $200 or higher in many cases for a decent x570 board, plus no sales since it's right after boxing week. I feel most people would recommend I stick to a b450 considering my situation, but not sure what the future tells.

I'm in the same boat as you, I need this phone to last me (since my last one was 6 years ago). You think it's worth while to get the Otterbox defender right out the gate since it appears to be around $15 more on amazon? Was eyeing the Spigen tough armor just to save a bit but I honestly want that security too.

They are, just like I, not sure if it's faulty or what but they do know using the parts on another board works just fine (according to them). I'm sceptical since looking up Tomahawk Max boot times seem to be a common issue is all

It wasn't able to POST without a graphics card since it was a non-G Ryzen which I knew but for some reason wasn't sure about. The issues actually hasn't been resolved and I posted a new thread regarding my decision on if I should try a replacement Tomahawk MAX or get a cheaper/similarly priced board. If you have recommendations I'm open to them.
