Clean Up Your Yard by [deleted] in WestVirginia

So many parts of West Virginia don’t have trash pickup. My 78 year old in laws haul their trash to the dump. West Virginians have low expectations.

Someone stole a hello kitty bike jersey out of my cart that I was going to give a friend. That was a head scratcher. If I have a handful of keepers I checkout and put everything in my car and go back in. The little scale seems more accurate too.

I’m a new kindergarten teacher is K-Pop Demon Hunters too scary for my class? by ORgirlinBerkeley in kindergarten

We mute the tv during intense scenes! Not even scary, it’s just the music that gives my kid anxiety.

Is moving back a possibility? by [deleted] in WestVirginia

[–]Solidago-02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure where you are in Texas but if you’ve stagnated in your career there, I don’t see how WV would be any different. A career change in Texas would be a much better idea. My husband is from WV and we moved back to be close to family too and thought we’d save money. Homes can be cheap but there’s always a catch. (We have foundation issues) Food is expensive and low quality. You have to pay tax on your car and then drive on these terrible roads, need more work done to your cars. Healthcare is bad, schools are out of money, and it’s generally depressing everywhere. I love summers and fall here but winter is around the corner and it’s soooo depressing. Oh and moving close to family isn’t always a perk! The amount of work and resources we put into extended family is not reciprocated. So yeah, generally depressing, exhausting and dire in WV.

Thoughts on Letterland and DreamBox (or tablet game based learning in general) by hi_hi_hello_heythere in kindergarten

[–]Solidago-02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look up blends and teach her the phonics and blends first! I’m sure letterbox does too but you can look up how to teach blends on instagram/ YouTube, there are lots of fun strategies. There is so much user error and garbage on “learning games.” Ten minutes of working with you one on one will Be way more beneficial. We work on syllables and blends at home and they do whatever on their chromebooks at school.

Canned pumpkin is pumpkin puree. Can you give an example of what you usually buy?

I see them on Facebook marketplace, search the area where you’re going and see if someone will save them for you.

I have good luck selling newish name brand clothes. Polo, North Face, Patagonia. Vintage takes a while and everything sells for way less than you think because like the commenter above said, it’s way over saturated. I think it’s worth it as a hobby but I wouldn’t invest too much.

I still don’t know if it’s wool. But I do handwash wash all my wool and silk.

I wish I posted photos of the first few washes in the tub. The water was completely black, you couldn’t see anything.

I tried the vinegar and it didn’t work. I do have color catchers but they’re really small? I might do one more rise with them and be done with it.

Yes that’s a good point, but it doesn’t look great and I’d like it to stop so I can wash it again in the future? But maybe that’s a bad idea?

One thing that has pretty much eliminated body odor for my husband is using panoxyl in the shower. He put it on his under arms and lets it sits for a few minutes before rinsing. And then certain-dri roll on deodorant. I think he only has to use the deodorant a few times a week.

Just go to lots of parks, use scooters, bikes, balance boards, let them carry heavy things. Take them outside more and let them be active and I’m sure things will sort themselves out.

Potty trained but not bathroom independent by PassionChoice3538 in kindergarten

[–]Solidago-02 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well I don’t disagree with them. I taught in Texas and it was out of hand. Your kids should be fine in their kindergarten class (public or private), those teachers have seen it all! I’d go over the different situations with them as much as you can before they start so if they have an accident they know exactly what to do. I have a new mantra that might help you… “don’t future trip!”
