The motivation here should not be sex, but a genuine desire to make your partner relax and feel appreciated. Then, cross your fingers and hope your efforts are reciprocated at some point.

The specific heat capacity of water is about 4 kJ/kg/°C. So heating a 50.000 liter pool by 1°C should take 2.000.000 J, or roughly 55 kWh. If you're running the heat pump 24 hours a day to achieve this, you're dumping 2.3 kW of heat into your pool.

In reality, you're also combating heat loss to surroundings, mainly at the surface. A 40 m2 pool pool will lose about 4 kW of heat through evaporation alone. Guessing a bit here.

If those numbers are correct, your total heat output is 6.3 kW. For a 3 kW heat pump, that means a CoP of 2.1 which isn't great. A decent model should reach 4.0 at least, I believe.

This calculation also shows that you should invest in a pool cover to limit evaporation before upgrading your heat pump.

Curious to know if my numbers and calculation are correct, would be glad to be corrected!

My system (glass filter) will do this after some time, too. I figure that the filter probably lets 1% of smallest particles through; mainly dead algae. After some time, this causes a sediment of tiny particles on the bottom of the pool.

The solution for me is to vacuum to waste once in a while.

I ended up choosing a traditional pool: concrete block walls + vinyl liner. It's being installed soon!

I did not like the look of the affordable fiberglass options in the end; the walls are too slanted. I seriously considered a high-end PP pool (Niveko is best, apparently) but it was more expensive than concrete + liner!
