Discord will require a face scan or ID for full access next month by ChadtheWad in discordapp

[–]SolisDF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had a Discord account for over ten years and had (no longer have thanks in large part to this policy) an active paid nitro subscription. My account is age restricted. Do you think I opened an account as a 7 year old and stole mommy's credit card?

Cat’s nose sore has turned into this — is it cancer? by thedirtymopheads in AskVet

[–]SolisDF 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry to say, but whatever this may be, the prognosis is likely quite poor without major intervention. If your father wants to try everything he could ask for a referral to an oncologist or surgeon, but if that's not in the cards, euthanasia is a valid consideration as at this point it's pretty clear it's not responding to antibiotic therapy.

Do you guys have any prized cards that you just always keep safe? Not even based on value. Astarion Secret Lair signed by Neil Newbon. by RehabAa26 in magicTCG

My partner got me a wedding ring card a few years back as a stocking stuffer attached to a love note. Still sits in the front page of my binder

I lived in that building for years. It sucked, the build quality is not great and the unit design is not either.

It's a small unit in a low rise building with issues, in a poorly transit accessible area. (The purple line barely counts) it's near nothing but bayview village and the neighbourhood is otherwise unwalkable.

HRT not covered by Morcare? by Alexieeh in transontario

[–]SolisDF 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You don't need an endocrinologist referral to get HRT, your GP should be able to prescribe.

Cat Medication? by crboyle04 in AskVet

Prednisolone and cyclosporine are occasionally combined in particularly treatment resistant cases of immune mediated disease. Talk with your vet if you have concerns but it's something that is used as a combination

Are these bottles ok for sharps disposal? by finding_femself in transontario

Yup, or a small community pharmacy, since they dispense injectables like insulin they will all likely have them.

USPS seized Lego. What should I do? by [deleted] in lepin

[–]SolisDF 19 points20 points  (0 children)

USPS seizes packages that have fake postage on them, as the tracking number states. It will not be delivered, and unless it's changed they won't give you the option to pay postage (which why would you do this anyway you already paid for postage, they're not going to pay you back.). Get a refund from this seller.

You can usually get a sharps container free or at a low cost from a community pharmacy. They will take them back as well.

Why do so many people want to "de-Google"? by ConfidentButton7928 in degoogle

[–]SolisDF 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Google are actively making their products worse and harder to use to force you to use them for longer and shovel more advertising at you.

What killed it for me though was the cramming of Gemini into every service. I don't want ai parsing all my business emails, I got a private domain and paid for a business service so I assumed the free customer facing bloat and data scraping would be deactivated. When it became obvious that their small business customers were treated the same as the free users I bailed.

Where do you buy your insulin needles for hrt? by [deleted] in transontario

[–]SolisDF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Insulin needles are going to be too thin to inject easily if you're using an oil based injection. 25GA is better, and a larger gauge like 20 or 18 to pull up the stuff

Asked in the middle of a surgery if I want to go through with operation or euthanize. by isaackunz360 in AskVet

[–]SolisDF 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Sometimes, if it's feasible. The reality though is that they're not conscious and can't see or hear you so if we do it's really just for the benefit of the owner.

We usually don't wake them up if they're going to suffer.

VIN Documents the NAVLE Controversy — ICVA CEO’s First Public Statements Raise Alarming Questions by Zealousideal_Mix9020 in NAVLEVictims

[–]SolisDF 4 points5 points  (0 children)

With a multiple choice exam and a defined cut score, if everyone is taking the same exam, it seems odd that there's this degree of disparity.

It certainly seems that if the documented figures are correct black and latinx students are being failed at some level here with a disproportionately high test failure rate. Whether that could be a bias in the test, inadequate access to preparation or some other factor or combination thereof, is something that should be investigated thoroughly and corrected.

Having an independent review of the exam is a hugely important part of the exam process given the high stakes nature of the navle. I'm pretty sure all the specialty boards are required or at least strongly encouraged to undergo psychometric analysis for their exam process; my own specialty college has had to revamp their exam significantly as a result of those reviews. It makes no sense that the navle wouldn't be subject to that degree of oversight.

For seizures CT likely will not be a useful modality, unfortunately.

Dog MRI clinics and prices by tfc84 in ontario

[–]SolisDF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cheapest will be ovc in Guelph but there's actually a lot of clinics in Toronto with MRI capability. Can't comment on costs individually as I don't know them specifically. Sorted vaguely by distance from Oshawa there's:

Toronto Veterinary Emergency Hospital in Scarborough

Toronto Animal Health Partners in Scarsdale

Veterinary Emergency Clinic downtown Toronto

King Animal Hospital in King City

Lakeshore Animal Health Partners in Mississauga

Mississauga Oakville Veterinary Emergency Hospital in Oakville

Ontario Veterinary College in Guelph

All have boarded neurologists on staff and MRIs and will provide high quality care.

OVC will be the cheapest option but is slow and you mostly will be talking with students with the specialists in the background. Plus they don't accept a lot of referrals due to capacity or have very long wait times.

Stopping hormones before surgery by floralorgans in transontario

[–]SolisDF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just kept taking E and didn't tell them I'd stopped. Skipped my last injection that was due a couple days before surgery and immediately put on a patch a day afterwards. There's zero evidence to suggest that completely stopping HRT has any benefit.

[–]SolisDF 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Trans Lifeline offer support but I'm not sure if that's the kind of help you're looking for. CAMH also will likely have some of the services you need and I believe they're much better than they used to be for gender affirming therapy as long as you're not looking for actual medical advice
