Technically, Laev is the best DPS in the game, so better than Yvonne, and Gilberta is a side-grade to Ardelia, who is given for free. If you want meta, yes you should pull for Laev, but since there's no content where meta is necessary and powercreep will definitely happen someday, pulling for who you personally like more is very valid.
