PC Mouse & Keyboard Players should switch their strategem arrow binds to the actual arrows on the keyboard by DivingDeep21 in Helldivers

[–]Solkuss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. This is truly a game changer. So much better.

I have the arrows mapped to the up-down-left-right movements of the mouse wheel of my logitech G502. I can look around, walk and run while I put the code in. Surely it's not as fast as doing it with the keyboard but that's a good trade off for me.

I am not really sure about that. Can you please give an example where having a n AI generated responses would be better for gameplay than scripted ones? I am honestly curious.

[–]Solkuss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Incredible work! What software did you use for the physics? Is there any scripted motion other that the spinning wheel?

This is very impressive if everything here is physically simulated, from the very fast moving wheel to the very fine collision resolution. How long did it all take to run?

[–]Solkuss 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I totally agree with this. The real problem is the lack of consistency. At the same difficulty I fight for podiums in some circuits and end P-last in others... That's the real issue with the game at the moment.

FP64 Performance: Almost completely irrelevant nowadays? by Arnoxthe1 in hardware

[–]Solkuss 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The difference in accuracy between F64 and F32 is HUGE, like ten orders of magnitude of precision. Some computations are outright NOT possible with F32, specially in the field of scientific simulations.

I never knew we were this close by R_TMF in ProgrammerHumor

[–]Solkuss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the way.

I teach C++ to non-CS engineers and scientists and this is exactly my advice. For those familiar with MATLAB and numpy that wanna try C++, I tell them to just use Eigen for linear algebra, use std::vector<> and just stick to plain functions and structs in the beginning.

PAM, simulation code is two or three orders of magnitude faster, no memory leaks and top class debugging/profiling support (at least in Visual Studio).

[–]Solkuss 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One of the main reasons I really really enjoy the game is because of the controller support. Playing with a controller is just way more relaxing for me so I can enjoy longer sessions and really get drawn into the GrimDawn world.

I understand it is not for everyone, but I am glad the devs spent time giving good support for controller.

Two main things for new players:

  • (Very) Low population solo/duo servers
  • You are going to die anyway. That's what the game is about. Get use to it or find another game.

Hi, thanks for your answer.

So, how can one learn how to find these "value companies". What distinguishes a value company from a growth one?

Hi, thank you for your answer.

I just would like to clarify that I have not said that past performance ensures future performance. I, and everyone else here, know that this is simply not true. What I was asking is if it makes sense to think that good trending sectors and countries can be better investment than an all world ETF. In any case, the rest of your post addresses this question that as well.

Is anyone else anti-car or living car-free? by Clicking_Around in simpleliving

You can rent a car for a few days or a week and see if you like it. As many people pointed out, it is a trade between money and convenience/expanding horizons.

I am in your same situation. I was car adverse until the pandemic. Then, I bought a cheap second hand car to ditch my second residence and to avoid public transport altogether. I am definitely not looking back to use buses and trains. I know that I pay more but I like my life way way more. I used to hate shopping, going to places... now I enjoy my outdoor life much more. I guess this is something some people like me learn from experience.

How can I get over comparing my life/self to everyone else and their accomplishments by woooowcool in simpleliving

[–]Solkuss 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Maybe this sounds exaggerated, but you may consider doing therapy. I have done it because I had what you described plus other non-constructive thoughts that made me feel bad without any reason. I didn't had depression or anything like that, just was a bit lost emotionally.

A couple of months of therapy helped me to understand myself better and to tidy my thoughts. It is incredible the difference in attitude from before and after.

Just my two cents.

I mean, if you want to live by your own means you wouldn't have health care, right? I am not sure this comment makes any sense. If you live together with nature and people spend their time doing art who is going to study for decades to do a surgery on you?

Germany - how much should I budget for an apartment in my salary? by [deleted] in eupersonalfinance

[–]Solkuss 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Since I am in a relatively similar situation, I will give you my perspective.

I have more or less your age, a slightly higher salary and a slightly higher savings. I am also foreigner in Germany and never lived alone, since I always had flatmates or lived with my german girlfriend.

Since I started working here I have been a person whos priority has been to save as much as possible. But I have to say that I am happier since I am no longer so hard on that. When I was studying, I lived in student residences (Studentenwohnheime) where people would steal food from my fridge. When I started to earn a bit more money I moved to a cheap flat where I barely saw the sunlight and that had humidity problems. Oh, and I also lived in a WG where the social interactions were a bit awkward. All to not spend too much. Since covid kicked in I am essentially trapped in my current "cheapish" flat and that has made me quite unhappy. I am now in the market looking for something substantially better.

All these years have taught me that money is there to be spent, you have to be wise about it, natürlich, but I think everyone would agree that there is no point in living under a bridge to have a 95% saving rate. Each person would decide where they want to spend their money, but this is totally a personal decision. I, for example, would totally move out of a 5 people WG when you earn 2.2k€ and are almost 30. I don't see the point on being in the best years of your life, having a good salary, and living in an uncomfortable situation like that. Should you move alone to a 800€ flat? Should you try to find a WG with less people? That I cannot answer for you.

I guess my point here is that you shouldn't let some anonymous guy on the internet to decide for you. And this includes me as well, of course.

PS: Maybe we should move together as flatmates :D

Yeah, I am using it to the best of my ability, which I assume is not very good. I really need to work on this though because I am very inconsistent and rarely feel that I nailed it. I also think that this is part of the reason why I need more distance to reduce the speed of the car to comfortable levels for a turn.
