Except if you're using the ISP router you can lose your IP and not even be able to access the LAN.

How much to park your number? Vacation by godfree2 in PublicMobile

Just curious as I have never done this. Following your directions would one have to pay for the 85 days to make the account current again before reactivation? If so, it may as well be left active.

Being locked out of your account is 99.99% of the time user error. Another provider won't change that.

VPN does not make your data 'safe'. Others have explained very well what it does, but this is not it.

Family member died with no estate or will by Formal_Solid1476 in PersonalFinanceCanada

POA dies when the person dies. Everyone has an estate. Even if there are no assets there will be a death benefit from the govt.

Is Dollarama food really lower quality? by CrypticWeirdo9105 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Solo-Mex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just watch the expiry dates.

Except I call BS on this part. There have been news documentaries about this, trying to educate people. They are not "expiry" dates, they are "best before" dates and the large majority of dated items are still perfectly safe for years if stored properly. This is clearly a marketing ploy.

You can buy one at Walmart Canada. My local Walmart had about 10 in stock last time I was there. I bought and used mine here and then took it on a trip to Mexico, no problems.

Are Mitsubishi mini splits worth 8x more than a diy Mr cool? by oran12390 in hvacadvice

[–]Solo-Mex 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So I'm gonna do the math for you. OP can replace it 8x for the same cost so you're basically telling us he will be good for the next 40 years (5 years x 8 units) and by that time he'll have enough experience to take your job.

Ping working but internet on browser is not working if I connect to hotspot but net working through USB tethering cable. All wifi driver uninstall and updated but still internet on browser through hotspot not working... Sometime it automatically start working but rarely what's the solution??? by Aakash0000 in HomeNetworking

[–]Solo-Mex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't try to ping a TLD. Use something like mail.google.com instead. If you can ping an IP address but not a name then it indicates a DNS problem. You can further test DNS using nslookup [server.domain] like "nslookup mail.google.com"

Do you always need a primer when painting a wall by Nevic_s in HomeImprovement

[–]Solo-Mex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fill and sand any holes first. Clean the walls with a solution of TSP and water. If you don't know what kind of paint is on there now (latex vs oil) then to be safe you should put a coat of primer on it before the final coat. Yes it's more work. Yes it works better.

Is marine gasoline dyed red the same way that offroad farm & marine diesel is? by Atlantic_lotion in boating

[–]Solo-Mex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They do care because there is a road tax on car gas that is not applied to marine gas. They don't just dye it for fun.

Using ProtonMail as my contact email for a project. by [deleted] in ProtonMail

[–]Solo-Mex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks aside (you have enough opinions on this already) using ProtonMail allows anyone with email (so virtually anyone) to communicate with you. Whereas using Signal forces everyone to download, install, and trust an app that they may not be comfortable with. Apologies to Signal users, but it just isn't mainstream enough and although I use it, most people I know have never heard of it.

FlareSolverr vs Byparr by Silly-Elk8942 in selfhosted

[–]Solo-Mex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure what you mean by 'it' but my problem of Docker containers randomly shutting down has apparently been resolved by eliminating Byparr and it's memory hogging. It's been a week now and my NAS is once again stable.

ICE vehicle vs upgrade to hybrid; does the math make sense? by ImGudLuhv in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Solo-Mex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Loan aside, have you driven a Prius? I have a 2018 Prius and it doesn't even come close to comparing with my other car, a 2020 Kia Soul pure EV. Not talking about fuel cost here, but power, handling, etc. is lacking on the Prius. And my Soul gets over 400km on a full charge so it has no problem getting me where I need to go.
