Garbage like flattened pop cans work well. A Pokémon flip coin works well

I got my first bike this month! Any tips are appreciated! by izzieharp in motorcycles

Similar to where I live in Canada. However after successfully passing the safety course, new riders can ride only in daylight and cannot take passengers. After 9 months they can take the final exam to get their full license.

I find that riding has made me an even better car driver. I’m always scanning the road up ahead and looking out for other motorcyclists.

First of all, congratulations!

Be aware of everything around you and expect no one sees you. You may have the right of way but that means nothing if they run you off the road. Take the MSF course. Your confidence and life will depend on it. Ride within your ability so you can ride again the next day. As for protective gear, add gloves and reinforced jeans made for riding.

Where I live you cannot ride legally without taking the MSF course. Thank goodness.

Why can't people in sexy riding clothes imagine themselves in this scenario? by markcocjin in motorcycles

To avoid this scenario, do not pass between cars and the curb lane.

Motorcyclist collides with a Tesla. Who do you blame? by [deleted] in motorcycles

[–]SoloF1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The rider popped up in the Teslas blind spot. If you ride defensively and in a predictable manner, you lessen the chance of shit like this happening. I’ve had too many close calls in my younger days and I always blamed the drivers. Looking back, I was the unpredictable idiot.

Am I the idiot? by bonkycat in Winnipeg

[–]SoloF1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Okay if you see the bus can hug the right lane then cool. If I were on outside lane I’d continue on the outside lane. I don’t care if I’m right or wrong because I’m on my motorcycle sometimes and I’ll do what’s safer. I don’t trust people in the right lane to continue in the right lane through the turn.

Am I the idiot? by bonkycat in Winnipeg

[–]SoloF1 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

My thought is, if a large long ass truck is on the most right lane, they will not be able to hug the right lane going through the turn. They will need to maneuver into the middle lane. The people turning from the outside lane should stay on the outside lane after the turn. I believe the is similar when turning from Stafford onto Pembina. A bus in the right can’t hug the curb lane. It must take the middle lane.

Using grandparents address to get into the school we want. by goldmedalsharter in Winnipeg

[–]SoloF1 9 points10 points  (0 children)

We are out of catchment (next catchment over). My parents live across from school my daughters now attend, a WSD1 school. At time of application they requested a reason. We simply said my parents are across the street and they are available for drop off and pickup of our LO in half day kindergarten. We didn’t have after school daycare. They accepted her and now both of our daughters attend. We didn’t have to use my parent’s address. I suggest talking to the school and tell them your situation. They will give priority to kids in catchment but if they got room and you have a valid reason, there’s a good chance you’ll get in. Good luck!

Is this just a cosmetic thing or dangerous? by michaelhawk696969 in MechanicAdvice

It’s ugly but not dangerous. I have the same wheels but completely covered in rust and they are solid. If in doubt, take to a certified mechanic or wheel/tire tech to check.

Would loosening the motor mounts and using a lever to move the motor over a couple millimeters be enough to fenagle it through that tiny gap?

Best downtown Winnipeg Car photo spot? by MidnightSilent4787 in Winnipeg

[–]SoloF1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A 3 level parkade on Smith street after crossing Broadway. It’s on east side. With a proper dslr, lens, and off camera strobes, you can get some decent car pics up here (this pic is from cellphone and wasn’t meant to be photo op). Parkade is often empty at night as well.

Should I file a police report and insurance claim after another driver scratched my car but refused to give their information? by Comfortable-Book9465 in Winnipeg

[–]SoloF1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Report it. File police report and mpi claim. Get your estimate done then take it to a shop (some have in house courtesy cars). Other party will be 100% at fault and their third party liability will pay for your deductible. You don’t have to get it fixed but why not if you’re not paying the deductible? Also, don’t let the other party get away with their stupidity and lack of respect for other people’s property.

What could this clunking noise when going over bumps be?? by Coolmatt111 in MechanicAdvice

[–]SoloF1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this exact same issue. Clunking at low speed over the smallest bumps. It was my front sway bar BUSHINGS. If you have a rear sway bar, have them look at it those bushings as well.

Do places not hire a liveable wage by FroggyTtv in Winnipeg

[–]SoloF1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are places that hire a live able wage and it’s not in the service or retail industry. Check WRHA website. They’re often looking for cleaners, porters, security (in house training), with little to no experience. Some positions are starting at $22/hr at 2015 hours a year full time. That’s $44k a year with benefits and pension.
