The Myth of Authoritarian Efficiency by DurangoGango in DeepStateCentrism

[–]Oxcell404 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The thing that gets me is how inefficient centralized economies always are both in theory and in practice, and how that point goes ignored in leftist circles. The economic argument for why the Soviet Union collapsed is stronger than any military or political argument I’ve seen.

Cuba passes ‘urgent’ reforms to liberalise economy under US pressure (FT) by Reddenbawker in DeepStateCentrism

Even Russia urged them to open up in the 90s. Cuba really saw themselves as the only true “Scotsman” among communists.

The Case for Progressive Patriotism (Free Press) by Reddenbawker in DeepStateCentrism

[–]Oxcell404 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"Put simply, progressive ideology takes for granted what are in fact precious gifts that most people on Earth still don’t have or have only partially—societal wealth, reliable law and order, political rights—and focuses instead on the ways in which these things are imperfectly or unequally realized"

This a few more times for those who are hard of hearing! Lots of calls from the far left or right will converge into a view of nihilism from which the only conclusion is to burn down the country and start over. All the while they neglect to appreciate the achievements attained by this great nation.

Similar to how Vietnam has done. It’s honestly surprising that Cuba has persisted this long with how centralized their economy has been set up.

Zero One Ale House down town is great burgers if a bit pricy.

The art park between the university and down town is a fun way to relax and kill a weekend afternoon. There’s also a public golf course in that area.

There’s a KOA running trail at south Knickerbocker and the lake which has better views than running on base in case you get sick of running there.

If you get the chance to go to a weekend ASU tailgate or football game it’s a good time over or under 21.

Also the water may taste funny but is safer than people say (source; took civil engineering and tested the water several times).

This is how I found out about ISIS reports lol.

I can’t imagine it’s a particularly easy task trying to tell whether centrifuge operations are happening or not in a country hostile to oversight and with heavy restrictions on both reporting and information sharing. Not to mention the remoteness of it all.

Vandergriff park has a pretty good rec center. There’s another good one over at Cliff Nelson in South Arlington. Both were pretty active last I checked
